  1. I struggle to watch Watts without expecting another insipid tackle, dropped mark or failure to commit to a contest. Suspect this will be his last year at the Dees if he does not turn things round - another #epicfail from our old recruiters. Sylvia was another wasted talent, but at least he would attack the ball. Grimes will also exit via his poor ball skills. Trenners another one. Good news is we have so much superb new talent with Hogan at the top of the crop.

  3. DB has to go asap. He is not performing, despite starting the season with supposedly one of the best young lists and a soft draw. OK we have had some injuries of late, but the tone was set earlier in the year. The current rebuild has stalled and needs a big kick in the guts.
  4. Why does Melbourne have so many players of "limited ability" after all its rebuilding efforts?
  5. We are one game closer to DB finishing his masquerade as an AFL coach
  6. I'll come back after a good night's rest, I think... :(Nice Call....off to the snow.

  8. Good comment, though I think Darling arrived with Senior football experience and Watts came out of the Private School system. As a bigger body player Watts will also take a bit longer to fill out and show his true talent, but what I am seeing is pleasing me.....all the best.
  9. Down on rotations didn't seem to impact the Hawks today?
  10. I just hope that summit isn't another 47 years away. Go dees!
  11. I continue to see steady progress in young Jack. He is now starting to have a presence on the ground and commit himself to more contests. I also particularly like his preparedness to take on contested pack marks and invariably select the right option on disposals. He has a big tank and is now beginning to develop into a player that we all thought he would be. Add another 15 games and a good preseason and we should be raving about this kid. All the best Jack.
  12. You are not calling for Bailey's head, but I am. He is not up to AFL level. We need a premiership coach like Malthouse/Roos. My money is on one of these already being locked in for next season; perhaps with Connolly as the interim.
  13. Damn good call - on ya bike Bailey, we need a proven premiership coach like Malthouse or Roos
  14. Elaborate and good call. Time to send him packing and employ a coach with a proven track record including Premierships eg Malthouse/Roos :-)
  15. Jack Watts, Jack Watts, Jack Watts - he is not standing up when it matters, he is missing shots he should kick, he is not presenting and committing to contests, he is doing a few good things then stuffing up big time i.e. failing to take a straight forward hand ball in Q4 when the game is up for grabs. This converted an attacking position into a Freemantle rebound. No doubt he will improve as he matures and his body fills out, but he is not showing the poise and polish you would expect from a no 1 draft pick. We keep making excuses for the big man.....but Trengove and Scully continue to impress. On a positive note; it was good to see the guys making it a real contest after half time. Moloney was a real loss, but PJ looked good & Scully's class shone through again. LJ will continue to improve with game time. Bail will be better for the run as well.
  16. Guys....get a life and stop bickering
  17. After our abysmal efforts in round one I thought about the prospects of another wooden spoon. We then had a bit of a resurgence and postivity creeping back into the club/supporters. My fear is that a long season will start to play against our young list and this will be exacerbated by injuries to key players like Junior and Sylvia. I am trying to be positive, but just hope our long suffering supporters can be given a few more signs of a light at the end of the tunnel.
  18. Sounds like we have a few lawyers presenting their defence of an under performing club. It appears to me most people accept that Jimmy & co are heading in the right direction. I only hope we can see another Grand Old flag in the not too distant future. Keep up the fight Jim and nice article in the Age.
  19. He struggles to adjust to the pace of AFL football, is a poor kick and does not score enough sausage rolls - move him on.
  20. Agree.....Newton's only contribution remains in the area of the Laws of Gravity......his career as an AFL football should be curtailed just as the apple hits the ground when it falls from the tree. He really optimises Melbourne's inabilty to make accurate assessment of football talent or lack thereof....a bit harsh some may say; but let's move him on and provide a spot for someone with brighter prospects; there are some uncut gems in the VFL eg Barlow. I wouldn't have an issue with Danny Hughes being given another chance.....he at least has a real dip; can take a mark and kick some goals.
  21. Very good post and signs of the team not showing football smarts....errors/turnovers kill any efforts to improve our win/loss ratio
  22. Nice post Demon Jack Would like Bailey to persist with Watts and encourage him to back himself for some contested marks. Bail and Jurrah should add some class and spark to the team. Would like them to continue with Spencer as a back up to Jamar. He showed enough to be given more opportinites. The loss of Grimes will hurt especially since he can create some nice run from the HB line. We were too stagnant in the backline today (partly due to the Saints pressure) and too often kicked to contests which created turnovers. We also reverted to bad habits of HB to another player under pressure leading to turnovers. Fingers crossed against the Bombers, but we cannot feel too confident with only 4.5 wins for the season which appeared to offer more promise. BTW did you notice the negative body language on the coverage today between Bailey and Connolly - during a break in the play with the team under pressure they were sitting next to each other arms crossed and ignoring each other. Maybe I'm reading too much into this, but I would have thought they should have been plotting some moves to turn things around??
  23. Dunn at least contributed and provided some spark in a lack lustre forward line....agree with Bate comments, he had a shocker. Watts while improved needs to back himself to take some contested grabs. Bennell is getting better with each week. Scully will improve as his body matures. Rivers is a shadow of his efforts in his first season. Can someone please give Jamar a quick lesson on the rules regarding deliberating hitting the ball over the defensive goal line. He has given two goals away in the last two weeks. Let's hope we can do a number on the Bombers next round.
