WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JACK VINEY

I was hoping a Luke Ball type response. Like go missing, do nothing, call any other clubs bluff and he walks to the club cheaply and gifts us a high draft pick to boot.

How's he any different from Harrington coming out saying they'll "pick the best available". Young Jack is merely saying that he's worthy of that pick 3 and if the Dee's what to stuff being too cute trying to get him second round then it will be their miss.

FWIW I think its all part of the games being played and we'll get him pick 3.

I would prefer Wines at #3

and Viney at #26

This whole issue is the difference between getting 1 gun inside mid.......or 2

This is unescessary

I dont particularly care to be held to ransom or dictated to.

If a charade its both ill conceived and poorly executed.

He has said before he wants to play for the red and the blue, how many more times does he need to say it. So now he has gone down the opposite path. Good on him. Joe Daniher was on SEN this morning and said Jack helped him so much with his development and if melbourne do get him then they will get a beauty. Which we already know but who knows what he could teach a player or two. Im sure Jones would love him there beside him in the midfeld.

The kid has every right to be frustrated by our club, they Chase him to commit last year, we finish a lot lower than we expect and we play games with him. We talk about our club and elite culture, this has been handled extremely poor. We want to be a strong club, come out and back Jack declare we will take him regardless, these games are silly.

Nice hyperbole.

Viney knows he is coming to the MFC. pick 3 or 26, who knows.. But he will be a Demon.

Loving all the media mind games though., Also loving Jacks passion.

Read between the lines folks. Effectively the club through Viney is telling both Gold Coast and GWS that they will call their bluff on pick 3. If either choose to take Viney at one or two then the MFC will let him go. It's called "Game Theory". Are both GWS and Gold Coast willing to risk pick one or two on a pick eight. Viney's statement sends the message to both clubs that the MFC has discussed the prospect of not using pick three to secure him. The ball is now entirely in Gold Coast's and GWS court. This of course may just be all bluff and we end up taking Viney at either pick three or twenty six. The thing is we will never know and neither will the other two clubs.

It's all part of the game people.....relax.

Think about the intent of the words that Jack has spoken.

Strangley thats not how i read it at all. Jack is demanding .

Hes also patently saying hello play for anyone.

Again its amateur hour if this is theatrical. Doing more harm than good id suggest.

Holy crap Chicken Little the sky is falling!!!

I have no problems at all with what Viney is doing, I would be amazed if the club or his dad would either.

FFS he is touted as the hardest inside mid in the competition, I can't believe the number of people here that want him to have a Mummy's boy persona to try and bluff people like Gubby Allan, Scott Clayton, and SOS. You reckon a scripted response of a potential F/S pick is going to bluff them or the damn media?

The draft combine is an opportunity to sell yourself in the best possible light. GWS and GC should interview him to see if he is worth taking a punt on, Viney will be going 110% to prove himself @ the combine, to think he would do otherwise is naive.

Hes also patently saying hello play for anyone.

That's exactly what he is saying.

IE if you pick me you get me, not if you pick me you will be gazumped and force the MFC to use a higher pick. That is the essence of it all.

If thats what GC and GWS believe it effectively neutralises the threat of them forcing us to use the higher pick because we are "committed".

This would all happen under the direction of the club.

Think...why would Jay Clark suddenly have access to young Jack?

I guess it all depends on Gold Coast.

If they are genuinely chasing him with pick 2, then yes, this is harmful. If they are bluffing to burn our pick 3, then this is a good thing and they will think twice before bidding.

Does it really matter if he rated as a pick 8. Good recruiting is getting the right person for the job required. Not picking the highest number on the hit parade like we have been doing. If other clubs think he is the ideal man to fill their spot then he will go earlier.

Good on you Jack have faith in your ability and throw a spanner in the works, Gold Coast & Gws can now think along the lines of Melbourne may have told Viney we wont take you at 3, so be prepared to go north if they really want you.

No the ball is in the Suns & Giants court do they take the risk

Many on here slated the club for the way they played out the Scully saga, but in hindsight it was perfectly orchestrated and we ended up with the same compensation as the Cats did for the best player in the AFL

Why? He'd know what the games are about, how real they are etc. I don't think he'd be 'frustrated'. There are several interpretations, some canvassed in this thread as to why he'd say that without being frustrated by how the MFC has treated him.

Some posters (not necessarily DrD -haven't followed his) seem to think the MFC is incompetent at everything just because we have been so on the field.

Im sure GC or GWS dont run their recruiting based on a Jay Clark article in the HS.

Best part of this article seems he has the right attitude towards preparation which reminds me of Jonesy who is thriving under Neeld. Shows that Viney slots in nicely with the type fo game plan the coach is implementing, tough, hard and uncompromising.

Very odd give the supposed mind games we all assumed the club was playing. You would think they would inform Jack, and Todd for that matter, how they want it handled, because this seems to fly in the face of what we thought was going on.

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
