1. It was a lot of players first hit out for the year

2. Essendon had half a side in.

3 Talk of finals is ridiculous.

P.s It's amazing the overloading of the Addam Maric bandwagon, 90% of posters on here had him written off. You know who you are.

1. Finals and premierships are still a couple years away

2. MFC defence cant handle small forward likes and will struggle against teams like essendon and carlton

3. Brent Maloney is a 1 trick (kick long) pony

Well I'd love to say Maric has arrived but im inclined to think he ' nearly has' .

He's certainly starting to show the things many of us had seen in glimpses.

The forward arc is his home . Leave him there. His confidence will only grow and his lethal kicking is returning or possibly upgrading to suit pace and physicality of AFL.

1. You should re-schedule your tennis around our games.

2. You need to improve your unforced errors and stop coming into the net.

3. No sh!te sherlock.

;)

Did you forget the 3rd point so had to make something up.

We should never play Martin, Spencer & Jamar together in one team.

We should never move forwards on a continuous basis like we did last night. They need to settle and grow in a position.

We need to revalue our defence line- absolutely need to find another tall backman to cover in case of loss. Our talls in the backline really showed us how poor off er are wthout Frawley AND NEED TO FIND SPEED OVER THE WHOLE GROUND..

Very good ! How many updates did you manage ?

Im figuring that DemonHQ must have sent out about 25 tweets - got to read about Jurrahs great mark and even goals we should have kicked but missed.

I am sure when we got to within 10 points The Bulls sisters must have looked at me oddly as I was looking down at my phone and did the Lleyton Hewitt - "Cmonnnnnnn"

1) if colin garland has a poor game without frawley playing, we will lose

2) grimes kicking it 15 m to the left or right of him is a pointless posession

3) we won alot of the hitouts and we couldnt get the first posession, scully and mckenzie are vital to our team

Yes, yes, and stating the bloody obvious is wortwhile when most posters don't see it.

We all talk about the talent that is 21 and under then in the next breath talk about flags as early as next season and top 4 this season.

Geelong's superdrafts were 2000 and 2001 and they won a flag in 2007.

Ours were 2007, 2008 and 2009 and we want one in 2012.

Fair points - re the future as Roost it stated. And without Garland in a key back positional role.

1. I will get incredible enjoyment watching Jurrah, Trengove, Sylvia and Grimes this season (also Frawley and Scully when they come in)

2. We really need a decent back-up ruck option, we are screwed if Jamar goes down

3. Our midfield is our real weakness, we won't make finals until we have a midfield that can put us into our forward 50 at least as many times as the opposition

4. We are 1-2 really good defenders short of being a great defence. Most teams would do anything for a core group of Frawley, Garland and Grimes, but we lack class outside those 3 guys. Really evident how much it effects us when Frawley is out. Add one Sam Fisher/Heath Shaw-esk player would be just what the doctor ordered

5. We have a forward line that is 1-2 seasons away from firing, but is absolutely chock-a-block full of talent- Jurrah, Watts, Cook, Howe, Pettard, Dunn, Green, Wona, Tapscott, Maric...

Great points made- I've made my points re Garland, I stated last year that Grime's kicking and vision under pressure is weak, and your 3rd point - goes without saying. However, we lost the game last night because we couldn't rove to Jamar- got belted in the guts.

Did you not read his 3 points I replied to ?

edit:

I think it's worth mentioning:

  • There is also a big difference between the NAB Cup and the regular H&A season with selecting sides. 18 + 4 (or 3 + sub) is alot different to the NAB Cup set up.

And without Garland in a key back positional role.

Alright, but when will one be ready, or when will we get one?

Garland is a key defender for the MFC until further notice.

And don't worry, JCB.

I'll be there to tell you when it's time.

1. It's not all bad, we're starting to use the NAB cup for what it's meant for (trying new things) and we still actually managed to get past the first round since 2006

2. There's way too much Warnock hate, yup terrible game from him, but he was awesome in '09 and I can't help but think he just needs the kind of confidence that comes from more regular games which unfortunately he may not get now that he has slipped well behind Frawley and Garland.

3. As our expectations have grown so has most peoples tendencies to panic earlier and earlier until we shoot the horse before it's sick...

I'll put my hand up as one of the many who panicked badly after round 1 last year so I learned my lesson the hard way, so let's dissect what went wrong but keep our focus on the long haul ahead.

We have a key backman on our list that IMO is better then Warnock but we are trying to make him a ruck. Stef Martin is best suited as a key defender. We need Campbell fit or Max Gawn to find some very good form. I actually thought Spencers Ruck work was OK.

1) we cant play docklands

2) Sean Wellman stiched out backs up last night

3) Maric can play

Yep , ill give you those :)

Trying not to duplicate previous posts, so ...

1. The players don't yet have complete confidence in each other.

2. We need all our midfielders in.

3. Hird owes Sean Wellman a beer.

1. My general mood during the week is massively influenced on how we perform game day .

2. Watching Moloney charge into 3 opposition players thinking he'll be able to get out the other side drives me insane and he rarely kicks to advantage on the occasions he is in the clear.

3. Without Frawley the backline is easily panicked and it's embarrassing to watch .

1. Jack Watts doesn't want to win games of footy, is a terrible kick and is also the direct cause of the NZ earthquake

2. Liam Jurrah can make grown men cry by just sneezing

3. Our future depends entirely on James Frawley's man boobs

Posted

1. Injuries aside we'll make the finals this year.

2. We are comfortably better than Essendon who will crumble when it matters.

3. We were clearly practicing switching the play, something that still needs work.

4. If fit, Moloney will play every game this year.

5. We need Strauss to keep improving.

6. Watts is 19

7. Bate is close to finished as a Demon

8. Petterd is far better than Dunn who is overrated around here.

9. Maric needs only an injury free season

10. Scully must remain a Demon. Cream is very hard to come by

5 things I remembered this morning

1. It was the Nab cup at Etihad

2. Our tackling pressure and intensity was miles off unless our players are witches hats

3. Some of our players are witches hats

4. How crap Addam Maric was this time in 2010. 2 possible lessons here. For optimists - who knows where types like Strauss and Blease might be in 2012. For the pessimists don't jump the gun on celebrating a new exciting player.

5. We are going to need to find a couple of skillful running players out of Blease, Strauss, Tapscott, Nicholson and Evans.

Posted

1) We are overhyped (but most of us knew that already)

2) Our midfield needs more work than our forward line

3) Maric may yet surprise me (I still doubt it, but less so than I did before last night)

Posted

1: still have a problem with opposing team getting a jump start.

2: the sun was still there the next day

3: Watts isnt concerned about losing... he just gets on with it.

1. Essendon have quite possibly the most fickle supporters in the AFL. When they are playing crap they will crucify their own, when they win 2 preseason games they think that they are a premiership contender.

2. Tom Lyon is a big unit for his age; I can't wait until we get him under the father-son rule.

3. There are alot of Melbourne supporters who don't understand the concept of "3 things I learnt".

Kind of reminds me of our own supporters. We were touted top 4 after last week by quite a few. This week. Crucify. Own.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
