I must admit that for the first time in my life I found myself going for Sydney when Melbourne made a move in the third quarter and then again in the last quarter. I must admit that I felt relief not anguish when Newton and Miller missed easy set shots on goal.

I badly want to see a premiership in my life time and thus I desperately want Scully and another top 3 pick. I know this does not mean we will win a premiership but, I also know that it can only be a very significant help.

So who else was in the same boat? Who else found themselves going for a loss?

I am not what you would call "pro-tank" as I am uneasy with draft position being the primary reason behind list management, selections etc. I would like my club to view early draft picks as a bonus rather than an objective, but I guess I might be niave. I understand the advantage early picks would give us, and would hate the early picks to go to clubs like WCE and Freo, who most pundits woulds say are less deserving of them than us.

I found myself in the boat of wanting the players to well, but not caring if we won or not. There are certain players I would love to see step up and prove some people wrong, while like most, I enjoy watching the new players do well. I think deep down I was happy with a loss, although given that we lost, a big lost would have served our cause better than a narrow one.

I am looking forward to hitting Round 22 still at 3 wins so we can all out against St Kilda without a care in the world.

I think Priority Picks should be evaluated by a commitee as I think more needs to be considered than just simply Win/Loss records.

I wanted Sydney to win, I've wanted the opposition to win most weeks since it was clear this season was another write-off.

I didn't find it too much of a bother this week though, partly because I was watching it at the pub over a few beers but I think mostly because we never really looked like winning.

On the other hand at the Port game the other week, that was one of the worst days at the football I've ever experienced. Now we have to go through it all again this week against Richmond and it will be relentless all day because playing Richmond you know that even if they are 10 goals up they may still find a way to lose...

I don't like the question in the poll. I didn't want Melb. to win, but I could never barrack against my club, or "support" another club.

Woops. Im with you, i cant really see the point in watching the footy at the moment, its a lose lose situation

I didn't sit there and yell "Go Sydney" at the TV, but I was incredibly nervous when there was just two goals in it.

When Sydney kicked a goal to open the lead to 3, I felt a sense of relief and calmness.

It's a horrible feeling, and I hate that I couldn't barrack for us to bring the game home, or that I didn't care when Miller and Newton missed numerous goals (when normally I would be furious), but the way I see it, what's 5 more weeks of misery when we've been through so many already?!

If we get through the next 2 weeks without a victory, I'll be cheering loud and proud in the remaining three matches, knowing that realistically we can only win one. If we lose to Freo (highly unlikely unless we pull a super tank), I hope we go all out and beat the scum from Carlton!

I couldn't vote. Truth is I watched with an eerie feeling. I wasn't barracking for Sydney. Now way I could support any other team, especially against my team Melbourne.

I just didn't want us to win, simple. What I was supporting was a really good effort by the Dees. I was disappointed in the kicking at goal, although I wasn't at all peeved when the likes of Miller missed set shots. I should have been though.

That is why the system - whatever it is - for Priority picks needs to be seriously reviewed. It is a blight on the game of Aussie Rules. It's not good.

TBH I was p***ed off after the game, not because we lost, but what we have to go through, and the way I feel, well.......'torn' by it all.

edit: -

P.S. What I want to feel when watching footy is the pure elation of a well earned win with excitement and the knowledge that the FD won't have to take Jurrah off the ground if things get close. Also the relief of not wanting to finish last or second last!

I was thinking back to how bad PA were and whether history was repeating.

Goodes was awful, infact, half of the Sydney team were complaining and screaming at each other.

They are adhering to Dylan Thomas's advice: they are not going gently into that good night...

They seem to be struggling like hell with it. And blaming each other.

I am currently barracking/supporting the MFC in it's List Rebuild, the longer term good fortune is what I'm supporting. I'm not supporting the players for a handfull of games that can hurt their & my longer term interests that are the rise of a powerfull MFC.

Next Year, 2010, I Will be gunning to "start the climb", where the list management would be of a "normal" strategy, (best available @ corresponding pick).

I make no apologies for feeling shortchanged by the league & our own miss-management over the last four decades, & now expect us to get ruthless to take all these advantages which have been put on the table for such benefits.

Having been there, it was certainly a very odd feeling.

If Wheels hadn't have kicked that goal (and I hadn't have blown my stack after it) I would've been freaked out.

I could never say I was barracking for the opposition, but I was certainly watching with the knowledge that if we won, I'd have been nearly heartbroken.

its funny because i desperately want us to win when the game is being played. as soon as it stops i couldnt care less - actually id celebrate a win for about 10 mins and then be upset because the long term view would be [censored] - and i just want flag, not a win in a rain soaked wind blown vfl game in a city that couldnt get a crowd to a naked playboy girl jelly fight.

This poll needs three options.

1 - Melbourne

2 - Sydney

3 - Melbourne 2010 onwards

I didn't enjoy the last quarter. Like I said in another thread, my heart and gut were pumping "win win win" but my mind was saying "no no no."

I fear I may develop a Multiple Personality Disorder over the next 5 weeks.

Edit - I didn't vote in the poll.

I hope we win every game from here on in.

The PP is gone,we'll win more than 2 games.

The players don't want the PP,that's why we beat Port and nearly beat Sydney.

The last time we had 2 picks in the top 5 was Sylvia and Mclean.

Gee,i'm so glad we got both of them,6 years later and look where we are!!!

Where would our list be if we only got one of them???

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
