Jones was close, but he's still young so let him develop and then give him a leadership role.

You need leaders Fwd, middle and back.

I agree. A leadership group with 5 midfielders seems a bit imbalanced.

In no particular order, I would expect next years leadership group to be:

Green

Bruce

McLean

Rivers

Miller

If it goes beyond that, then Davey would be the next one included.

I suspect (based on the impression I received having heard him speak at the start of this year) that if McDonald continues playing (and I expect him to for at least one more year), he would likely relinquish a spot in the leadership group as part of a generational change.

You get that impression with Junior. Hard at it and honest. If he did not think he was pulling his weight he would be the first to put his hand and do the what he thought was best for the Club. A great model of effort and hard work for younger players.

Junior wouldnt need to be part of any formal group to be a leader...he just goes out and leads by example anyway. I can see him playing out his twilight as a "regular' bloke though. It would be very "him" :)

Nice to agree on something for a change... ;)

McLean - I think after his comments on SEN today he may have been told to cool his heels for a year or two, an given his indiscretions I reckon it's fair enough that he be made to wait a year or two.

can you elaborate dappa? i didnt hear the comments and havnt seen anything about them ?

C-Green - Leads By example

VC-Miller - Experienced and helps the youngsters alot

D-Davey - A bit of responsibility to make him accountable

D-Mclean - Get him more involved in decisions

D-Rivers- Showing the kids how it's done (when not injured)

My two cents.

I think Junior should go around next year, I think he still offers the club a lot, I would not be too un happy if White went around one more year on a 1 year contract with a little less money.

Wouldn't you consider trading White for a draft pick (aka kid) or another young Ruckman on the up ie Warnock? Why keep him on the list (and clog it up), he may not be worth anything this time next year. He's form is in free fall right now, what will it be like this time next year? Freo might come to the party, so they can have White and Sandilands next year.

Bailey continues to impress me more and more. No one deserves to be in the leadership group more than Brad Green this year, and should have been there from thre start. The players voted the leadership group in this year and not surprisingly the old school culture of the club voted in Yze n Robbo which raised my eyebrows as well as many others. Moloney is a true Demon, sure he can`t get on the park but you can see the desire in him every time he is on the ground. The young blokes will be looking up to him already. Good news for Jared too. All the recent trade talk about him is out the door as this you would think is a statement that he will be involved for a long time to come, particularly for a bloke who will not play another game this year. Dont care if we lose every game this year.We have long passed bottoming out and are on our way , slowly, but very surely!!

If he cant get a game at MFC, he wont demand much at the trade table. His contract is up this year and may ping for the PSD.

I think he is finished at MFC at the end of this year regardless.

I agree.

If you're a leader, you'll be a leader, regardless of title.

White, Yze, Holland, Whelan, Carroll are all on notice - 9 weeks to show the coach why they should be kept on the list.

I think it was clear at the start of the year that if you were reasonably old (in footy terms), you'd need to really earn your spot for future seasons. I'd also add McDonald to the list of possible outs, as RR has said.

Regarding a White trade, I'm not sure there'd be much value, but there's probably not much value in keeping him either - particularly if we draft of recruit another ruck at the end of the year - as he won't be around too much longer anyway.

I'm really happy with the new leaderhip group. They're looking to the future with Moloney, Miller, McLean and Davey. And about time Green got in there. I do feel a bit sorry for Robbo though. You can't use the 'he's out for the year' argument because so are Rivers and Moloney, but I don't disagree with the decision to drop him.

Correct Titan. The players voted on the leadership and voted that Rivers and Moloney were leaders and Robbo was not. That certainly sends a message.

It's funny how everyone has Miller in their leadership group. After slagging him off so much . Take a hard look at yourselves proves you know jackshit.

Miller has always been a leader just not been shown the way by our useless ex coach.

Or it highlights a lack of genuine leadership material amongst the senior group.

Or it highlights how people, ie Demonlanders, from outside the playing group, think they know better than the

the actual players who SEE and KNOW who the real leaders of the team are!

How many posters on this site have been actually involved with the process?

Who the players see as leaders ARE the leaders!!!!

They know the roles and jobs each is asked of!!!!

Who we think from outside means nothing.

From outside Demonlanders know JAK S--T!!!

This year!!!David retires! Robbo out for the year!!etc. etc.

The club HAS employed a consulting company to aid in the selecting of the Leaders.

From the outside , how do Demonlanders know the REAL situation????

Without the REAL INSIDE knowledge keep dreaming!!

I've never bagged him. Ever. In fact, I'm one of the few crazies who believe he should captain us next year.

If the players are capable of doign it (your choice of words) why do we need a consulting company?

Robertson is injured, true, but that doesn't make any sense because they've promoted others who are also out for the seaon.

I'm confused by your argument, it seems to be a dynamic beast that changes with each reply.

The consultants put in place the leadership model and the process. The players just voted on who they thought fit the mould.

I actually think that the process is good in the long term because it is based around changing the culture of the group. The leaders are those that the players see as leaders, not those given a title. The fact that they have changed their leadership group from Yze/Robbo etc to Green/Rivers/Moloney etc is a massive step forward for the playing group.

When were the consultants hired?

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
