Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

How does the draw work

Am I correct in assuming that the top 6 play each other twice in the following year?

This will be good for revenues if so as it gives us home games against Collingwood, Richmond and Hawthorn.

GWS and WCE home games can possibly be played at our winter home away from home in the Territory ... GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Not quite but almost. You are drawn against more teams in your ‘6’ but this will generally include 3 from there and 1 from the others. Also depends on trade week I.e if we traded in Patrick Cripps - we’d have 2 games v Blues.

Basically, expect 2 games v Rich and Coll (also putting early money on Coll v Melb to have the opening Friday night) and then ??? For the other 3 double ups.

I had no idea trade week could effect the draw Dee-lic, would you mind explaining it further?

So we got Adelaide twice last year because of Lever. They like to try and make money out of the big trades and free agents (ie crows v Geelong after Danger). So while the rules around fixturing don’t say “we will do this”. The AFL have enough breathing room to maximise eyeballs.

There's already talk that Collingwood want a round 1 match up (on the Friday night too), so queens birthday remains our home game. I imagine that'd do very good things for exposure/sponsorship etc.

The draw next season means there's not going to be any lapses, such as the 2 geelong games or the saints, we'll have to be good all year, something I hope our guys are looking forward too.

Absolutely. Has been a factor for about 10 years.

Maximize the hype...

At least two of our five repeat games next year will be against Richmond, West Coast, Collingwood, Hawthorn and GWS.

Could potentially be good financially, if we get home games against those three big Victorian clubs.

And no more than one of our five repeat games will be against Carlton, Gold Coast, Brisbane, St Kilda, Fremantle and the Dogs.

That could also potentially be good financially, as it lowers the likelihood of home games against a bunch of low-drawing sides.

No doubt given that we deserve prime time games we will get to be away team v Carlton, Saint and EssenDung.

That will enable a Gillon to stand up and say we are being treated equitably.

London to a brick we’ll go to Kardinia Park, and Richmond, Essendon and Collingwood won’t.

Its as bad as an interstate game in SA or WA, and we get it at least 80 % of years.

AND..........We MUST stop selling home games interstate.

This year has shown, that if we are successful, lukewarm supporters will turn up to our home games.

We just need to get rid of the Darwin one. That game is [censored].

The draw is a disgrace & until you play each other twice or once you will never have a fair comp ..  pies got top 4 with 14 wins against bottom 8 teams & 1 win against  us in the 8... What would the ladder look if teams only played once?

We should have won at east 1 game against Geelong and we should have beaten St. Kilda. Result - 16 wins and second position. The draw didn't affect us.

We had better success away than on our home ground, the draw didn't affect that.

Lastly, whatever the draw's  failings, I like football and I don't want the season reduced to 17 games.

If we get stuck with Geelong down that shithole again I’m gonna lose it. The only Victorian club to consistently go there every year, yet we had better attendance numbers than half the other Melbourne based clubs. What a joke!

High time some other team pays this penance surely.

Something for the club to lobby for

The draw is generated by a computer program which takes numerous factors into consideration (6 day breaks, consecutive travel, etc) and generates a draw in 0.02 seconds. It's completely impartial and untainted by human intervention.

The AFL execs then layer on other considerations, like "big 4 club", "minnow club", "club in our gunsights that we want to punish", "blockbusters", and so on, resulting in a final draw that is completely impartial (except for the bits that aren't), and untainted by any consideration of contract bonuses (perish the thought).

The draw also goes to Eddie and Channel 7 just to make sure it is a FIXture that benefits those the AFL want to benefit.

My guess is we will play Coll, Haw, WCE, Syd and BL twice next year.

Just random guess work that I may, or may not, bump in the future.

Of the top 6 I would be happy playing Haw and WCE twice.  Although not happy if WCE is an NT game.

Prefer Syd twice over Geelong, NM, Adelaide, Port or Essendon.

BL twice would be unlucky....

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to
