Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

To have any genuine success i agree.  But we also need a brute of a forward who can clunk marks/smash packs and score half the time from set shots.  We still dont have one.

And can load up from outside fitty.

I think Peter Moore is a realistic target.

Felt worse this morning.

anylysing the game I thought we came back pretty strongly but were very fumbly and nervy . Something is wrong with Maxy just seems to lack his usual energy.

Looking back to the St Kilda game where we were on fire in the first quarter and then yesterday's game where we had everything on the line and had zero tackles in the first 12 minutes is just baffling to me.

Is it the coaches job to fire up the players before a game?

Is Goodwin too laid back?

Apparently we don't discuss Elephants at Melbourne.

Goodwin has a few problems to sort out. The first is he doesn't acknowledge the first one being there is a problem with Elephants.

Im starting to seriously wonder if hes the right bloke.

The players are professional footballers, they play the game every week. It was just another game. They ought to have known that if the momentum of the game was clearly working against them, something had to happen to address this.

Maybe correct ,habitual, instinctive tackling?  ( it didn't ) or maybe some  simply aren't mentally strong enough or good enough to carry it out.

IMO our midfield is no where near elite enough to 'consistently' win.

By the way I don't think getting Lever will fix this.

I had to skip to the end after reading 3 pages of demonland implosion on this thread.

That was a hard game to watch but there is no doubt this team is starting to come together. It is ridiculous to say that we aren't better, we are definitely better and are on the brink of being excellent. That first quarter was a shocker, pressure wise, and we played catchup footy from there. We have had plenty of poor first quarters over the year and it is something we are going to have to address in the off season. There is plenty of growth too be had from this group. Imagine when Gussy, Trac and Oliver have had 100 games together in the midfield along with Viney? We need to work on stopping another team when they are on a run, but there is really no need to for the excessive negative hyperbole that so many demonlanders seem to need to indulge in.

Lets see how it pans out today. If we get to play finals then we deserved it. Simple as that there is no other measure besides making it.

Agree with most of your points.

If our support base could be compared to a fictional character, it would be David Brent in that we are completely delusional in how we see ourselves and how others see us.

I wish the AFL would get serious and start it's statistical lineage from 1990 (the first year of the AFL). That would force the MFC to confront the fact we have won nothing in modern times and that our successes are nothing but a historical relic. I will add in those times, players smoked and trained once a week. It was far from professional.

I would disagree on the Swooper era however. I remember that having blokes like Balls, Todd and the big Strawb had other teams taking shorter strides. The problem was we just had a fairly meat and potatoes side.

If we are to make finals then we simply cannot carry Mitch Hannan next week. He goes missing far to often in games. Bring in a Ben Kennedy or even Bugg.

And and amazed that while Dom Tyson cops flak for his poor disposal, Jayden Hunt continues to fly under the radar! He's ability to hit target by foot is becoming worse then Paul Hopgood. Needs to lift big time and work hard on it over the summer!

Supporters talk to players all the time, players don't live in a bubble. I don't see how players  wouldn't be effected by things they constantly hear, even if they claim they aren't. They are humans just like us. I remember the after game functions of yesteryear, I remember seeing people fawning over a young Col Sylvia, pumping up his tyres, telling him what a superstar he was destined to become. We are the backslappingest supporters going around after a good win, everyone's a star and the premiership is ours for the taking. A week later we're slashing wrists and wanting to trade half the list out.

The arrogance of Melbourne fans is what truly baffles me though. All the talk about wanting Richmond in an Elim because we're a much better side and will smash them. How in hell do you come to that conclusion? Historically we are the biggest rabble of the last 50 years, My entire lifetime of following the "demons"has been one of repeated abject failure, some periods have been a bit less failure ridden but make no mistake it's all ended in misery. Recently we lost to North and scraped in against Brisbane, we are playing bog ordinary footy atm and have been ever since the Sydney game. except for a quarter here and a 10 minute burst there. Sadly that was the week after I first allowed myself to believe we'd make finals, lesson learnt again. Never have faith in Melbourne, never ever

The "relax we've got this" attitude is clearly one the players buy into, but still every time we play a team below us some smartarz insists on posting it and more often than not the team proves they were thinking the exact same thing. That phrase should carry a ban from this site, lifetime would be my preference but I'd settle for 2 weeks.

While I'm on this rant the constant harking back to The Northey days or even Daniher or Balme years is really really sad. We were soft during all this periods and never won anything that mattered, I'm guessing here but in all those years I bet we had a period of stinking it up, 3 consecutive losses at least and most likely drubbings has been a standard feature of every season I've seen. We should be done for misleading branding, we're not and in my lifetime have never been demons, perhaps marshmallows would be more accurate.

The only reason I wanted to play Richmond in a final and I never mentioned as such, is not because we would smash them off the park but I haven't been to a final in 11 years and what better than a packed MCG with two Melbourne clubs going at it.

My first final was the elimination in 1988 as an 11yr old and I still remember the buzz after the siren. My kids are at that age now and I joined them up two seasons ago and they've become more entrenched in the red and blue with each game they have been to. Their first final in Melbourne would have been something special for all 3 of us. They were devastated yesterday.

I don't believe the word arrogance portrays most on here, we are starved at the moment and most of us would have taken a final on the moon.

This game brings various emotions with it, that's what makes it great and regardless of our fate later today most on here will stick fat with the red and blue and continue to cheer them on for years to come.

We had to bring our best footy yesterday in order to win and we failed to do so ... on the other hand Collingwood are at their best every 3 or 4 weeks and were due.

Scapegoating one player or another is a futile exercise as well.  By my reckoning we had up to about a dozen players who had very little impact on the game.  And that's about 8 or 9 players too many.  Our more experienced players and leaders let us down (as a collective)

We did well to restrict the margin to 16 points in all reality ... that's how poor we were.

But we live to fight another day and if the Crows go into today's game with that same selected team, that game should at least be close.  And that will be enough for us to remain alive.  It would be a major surprise if Freo prevail but you never know.

Here's hoping.

I wonder how scathing and angry Peter Jackson was after the loss. Here is a guy that has come in and tried to repair a broken club. Gee he must have been frustrated.

As Hamish said to Max on gameday today, if you just won yesterday we wouldn't have to go through these scenarios and you wouldn't have to wait until tonight to see if you play finals.

Whos to blame here for the lack of intensity, leadership or coaching?

Its baffling how the players would not want to bring the intensity!

That is the most damning stat I think I've ever heard in my time watching this team.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
