That is what Goodwin said more or less: "We'll get him assessed and get the full results tomorrow (Sunday). The medical team have done a terrific job with our group over a couple of years now so it'll be a standard four weeks and hopefully get him back as quick as we can."

I wasn't saying it won't be a month, just saying that Max didn't sound optimistic in his interview earlier today.

Yep not great news, spencer is a Monty now but if he goes down we are in serious trouble

Having been through hamstring tears and strains myself usually it has taken me 4 to 6 weeks to get back and thats with a tear only. But because its tendon related thats potentially a 8 to 12 week stint unfortunately. Tendons are the level above tearing your hammy which no one wants.

Think its time to giddy up Pencil..

Wise, this post justifies Max's pessimism in the interview.

“At this stage, it’s too early to determine the exact length of time that Max will miss, however with the tendon involvement, we expect his recovery to be longer than your traditional hamstring injury.”

Surgery could mean season, certainly a minimum of 8-12w as you suggest. Rotten luck. We will need to reinvent ourselves without Max.

Nothing ever is certain, though everyone who sees a surgeon does not necessarily need nor have surgery.

Gawn is a massive loss, how big we won't know till we play I guess, spencer is competitive though so should go ok, big couple weeks coming up we will see what we are made of

This is going to read as a little weird, but I actually think for the long term development and benefit of the team, Gawn's injury in 2017 is actually a massive chance to test some things. Not just personnel, but game plan, game style and our coaching. 

Much prefer it happen this year, than when we're in our window and heavily reliant on Gawn to get us a flag, having never been truly tested without him.

This year is now about developing ways to win without him and developing role players right the way through the list. It's Spencer's turn now.

If you look at the injuries to the Eagles key backs a few years back that ensured they had to stick rigorously to their defensive 'system' (the so-called 'Web'), they were able to unearth some brilliant role players and intercept markers.

There are countless other examples of players going down injured, leading to a team's increased depth and development.

This should be seen as a great challenge and a perfect development opportunity.

Great test for Goody in his first year too. Bit of a baptism of fire. I think he'll be fine. He's an innovator.

Spencil in for Gawn. I think the weed needs some casey time and I don't really think Hannan has got  the goods. I'd bring Brayshaw back in and either Pederson  or Frost.

Buggs disposal is poor but he does have a go and kennedy harris is another consderation.

Another aspect. If you HAVE to have Max miss 8-12 weeks, then the time is now. Our draw up to the bye is way easier than after the bye. Also, I trust spencer as  a starting ruck playing 80% game time in the guts. No problem there for me. It's only when he's the second ruck resting forward that I think he's a liability.

And to continue your point, we have the deepest injury list going round right now with heaps of starting 22 out. After a massively lucky season last year for injury, I'm thrilled we still put together 30 scoring shots against a definite top 4 side. I choose to see this as glass half full.

I have heard this from Collingwood supporters for the last few years. If we want to be contenders next year and counting, we need to brush this off and keep moving forward.

Demonland is Demonland   if we win we have a team of world beaters, if we lose wholesale changes are called for   apart from the scapegoat who at the moment is Omac   put before I don't care who is in the team  as long as they have a crack   thought everybody put in so apart from Gawn why change   although FD may think differently

While the news about Maxy isn't great I'm thrilled for the big Spencil. I really hope the boys get around him and remind him of the hard work he's done. He hasn't dropped his head when Max surpassed him - instead he puts his hand up very high in the off season and gave the club a lot to think about.
