  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Always wondered what this meant? MFC, what do the two S's stand for?

Supporter syndrome.

Apparently thats meant to be an indictment on the so-called negative supporters who actually question the club's direction and potential, rather than blindly supporting it, despite whatever is the awful truth.

Well I believe I actually invented the term, correct me if I'm wrong.

It is always being misdiagnosed.

It's when we obviously have something good, the MFCSS sufferer will automatically build a defense mechanism for when this good thing is inevitably taken away.

Everything at MFC is too good to be true.

Eg.

Damn Liam Jurrah was exciting in his 3rd game, too bad he'll probably go back to the Northern Territory.

The ones that are just constantly negative or bagging us suffer from MFCMCS. MY Club Sucks.

And the always positive never critical ones are MFCCLS. But I believe that was cured at about 9 o'clock on Thursday night.

rpfc invented it I thought but you've got the definition right DA. It's also the "it's been bad for the last 40 years therefore it's going to be bad forever" mentality.

Being convinced Tom Scully will leave when there's no evidence whatsoever to suggest he will is a function of MFCSS.

Being upset over the side's dreadful performance on Thursday is a function of being a normal footy supporter and has nothing to do with MFCSS.

Well i'm not sure what syndrome i've got but I was (and still am) so angry and appalled after the West Coast fiasco that I considered cutting up my member card and sending it back. Wiser heads prevailed however when my wife advised me not to do that. Rather, she said, lend it to people you hate so they can waste 2 hours of their life watching the rubbish MFC presents as football.

It's a silly term that seeks to pigeon hole supporters whose opinions run at variance with a certain clique on this website, who then use it to belittle them.

No different really to Western psychologists who place fancy sounding acronyms and pseudo-scientific labels on vastly complex issues of the human psyche.

Keeps them in a job and makes them feel they know something you don't. Blah.

But I think that using one game to "prove" the already-present feeling that the MFC wasn't going anywhere and everyone needs to go has everything to do with it IMO.

Have I seen MFCFS somewhere also?

My Football Club Effing Sucks - DA called it MFCMCS, but it's not specific to the MFC, all clubs have these types of supporters. These are the people that believe that everything and anything is wrong with the club and if there's nothing real to criticise, they just make stuff up.

This one applies to all the people who were having a moan about our 90 point win against GC.

FS= Fantasy Syndrome i.e. our coach is the greatest, our FD always right, our new recruit will win multiple brownlows etc

Thanks...

The syndrome is alive and well.

Does our history of failure have anything to do with the current admin and FD?

Do you 'just know' that Tom is going, Liam will pack up and go home, Jack will be dud, or this rebuild will not achieve a flag?

Do you believe the worst and then declare yourself proven right be a few awful quarters and 1 awful game?

Do you start a thread purporting the Syndrome to be rubbish after the awful game because the outlandish fears of the Supporters have just been proven to have merit?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, you suffer from MFCSS.

Trust me the MFCCLS wasn't cured at all on Thursday night. I still know a number of people, who were the ones that always kept me positive, who refuse to criticise the club. To each their own I guess, but when they tried to tell me this time to stay positive, I tried to tell them to F off :)

Your missus and mine must be sisters, she could not understand why I kept watching the second half, after the game finished neither could I !!

What is the opposite to the MFCSS? Is it those that blindly believe what the club tells even when their own eyes tell them it's not true?

How long does it take for the non MFCSS to wake up to the fact that all is not well and how long does it take before these same supporters start to realise that the same problems recur year after years FD after FD? How long will it take before they realise that there is an imbedded culture in the club that will never change and that the MFCSS are not really delusional after all?

^ Daisycutter came up with his opposite to MFCSS, being MFCFS.

Did a quick Google search to confirm the abbreviation of the term and this thread from mid 2011 came up.  Practically premonish at the time.  I guess it was probably Watts being referred to, but it could also somewhat apply to the end result we achieved with Trengove although I'don't say it was more his foot and our medical team's management of it than the player himself being the dud.

Personally I managed to get through the bad years with a generally positive attitude having thought we were a sneaky chance of making finals in 2016, being moderately confident that we would beat Collingwood in 2017 and maintaining the faith most of 2018 (that Sydney loss shook me a bit), but still thinking we could knock of at least one of WC or GWS to finally play finals this year.  However, strangely I think I may be fighting off a late onset of MFCSS of late.

It's not really the Jessy leaving thing (disappointing in a way, but it is and I'm over it for now and getting May does help offset the loss to an extent), but more a feeling that as good as what we have built to this point is looking, there is still so much work to do and thateverything  could still fall apart badly from here.

I would be more confident if PJ was still in the harness @Rodney (Balls) Grinter

This thread should be instructive for future Demon fans in that there is pessimism for the sake of it but there is also healthy skepticism.

Bob Menzies once said that you should always ignore anonymous letters unless you get a few thousand on the same subject. There are times when the overwhelming weight of evidence suggests that you are on the wrong track. The period this thread was started was indeed one of those times.

We have to stop thinking of making the top 8 as a WIN.... it is not.

Top 8 is half (50%) of the competition...

Top 5 is a win for us.  and is a realistic chance of going further from there.

raising our EyEs, early season...  dare to dream.  dare to struggle... dare to WIN.

I tell u what mfcss people are there the ones u hate sitting next to at a game, and reading on this site, there the ones who only see negative even after a 10 goal win, there the ones who are never happy, there the ones who  actually prefer losing because they rather be right than happy, no not everything is right at the club, and not everything is wrong at the club, there are no  guarantees in life, all year most where saying everyone else is playing for second against Richmond. Everything is not as good as it seems and everything is not as bad as it seems, quite often its much worse.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 09 vs Carlton

It's Game Day and the Demons are once again headlining another blockbuster at the MCG to kick off the round of footy. The Dees take on the Blues and have the opportunity to win their third game on the trot to solidify a spot in the Top 4 in addition to handing the Blues their third consecutive defeat to bundle them out of the Top 8.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
