  1. LOL my teenage son’s been nagging me for ages to buy him a new guitar. As recently as last night I told him to quit nagging as it’s gonna be a while. I just messaged him to come straight home from school since I’m gonna buy him a guitar asap. His response…

  2. Haven’t overpaid. Gus has taken significantly less than what he would have gotten elsewhere. He got ALOT of interest and some really good offers.

  3. Love seeing stuff like this. Hopefully gives all the boys a massive boost and we take that into the rest of the season

  4. If there is any doubt that Gus is not a gold digger with an inflated ego: "...But industry sources said Brayshaw, who has been more satisfied playing at half-back than wing, could have earned easily above $800,000 over the same six-year term had he chosen to play for the Bombers, Fremantle or another club and had accepted much less than was on offer..." "Brayshaw said he had taken a careful and considered look at the options before him, before deciding on staying with the Dees, with a number of factors at play, including the culture being built at the club, the list, and the long-term re-signing of key teammates". "Melbourne has everything that I really needed to tick this one off. I love my teammates, I love the coaches, I think we’ve got a great list where we can compete for finals and premierships and this is the place where I believe I can become the best player I can be,” brayshaw-staying-with-demons

  5. Harmesy copped a knock early in the second. Not himself the rest of the game, no one had any idea why including the coaches. Apparently felt terrible the next day and then failed the concussion test. He's pretty flat about it by all reports, hope he's right and firing for finals - underrated team player.

  6. As I saw it, Gus was THE poster boy for a selfless club. 3rd in a brownlow playing in the middle, then makes way fr the 3 demon bulls and plays both defensive wing and HBF. Excelling at both. Losing Jackson may be the bigger loss on field in time but in terms of the culture and many intangibles Gus was irreplaceable. I’m stoked.

  7. It’s ironic, those who read into his interview with Garry and Tim, he was leaving for midfield time heard what they wanted to hear. I said at the time I wasn’t worried by the interview, he was open and honest. Stated in the interview he was loving his time in the backline. Throughout his appearances in the media he’s been open and honest, calling out teammates and the overall performance, imploring the team first approach and do your job buy in needed for us to be there late in September. He has shown over several years he’s a team first player and great clubman, but still he was doubted. But those who jumped to conclusions, won’t learn the player/coach name and thread title will change but the responses will remain the same

  11. In all of the celebrations regarding Angus signing on, please never forget that this means Essedon failed in their efforts to recruit him. Suck it Bombers.

  12. I can't believe this guy is still only 22 years old. He has absolutely dominated since midway through last year and has probably been our best key defender this year which is no mean feat co sidering the quality down back. It only occurred to me when viewing the contract thread that he is tied up til 2025 and will only be 25 at end of contract! Massive upside for this young star has the potential to go forward at some stage and could be captain material down the road. Loving his game this year.

  13. Yeah, nah they weren’t though. They were bang on and always are. I wouldn’t have gone with this as strongly if I did if I wasn’t sure.

  15. Anyone doubting the value of Gus should just go and re watch the grand final. There are players who are very good H&A players and there are players who step up in the finals and GF - the game that matters most! Absolutely delighted he has signed for six, he wants to be part of a dynasty team! Is there some risk in our long term deals - yes, but we are taking a balanced approach to risk and reward. Long-term deals for Max, Viney, Salem, Clarrie, Trac & Gus likely means they are all taking unders, multiply 6 players *$ 150-200k leaves an extra $900k - $1.2M to keep other players. That core group of players will keep us in the mix for a flag for the next 5 years.

  16. Just thrilled. Gus has become the heart beat of this team and his selfless acceptance of roles he’d ideally not be playing is a huge part of why the club won a premiership. I believe wholeheartedly this will provide a massive boost and significant relief for the players and will result in a much improved performance tomorrow night

  17. I’d suggest that his 2021 form, partic the finals, showed he was an ideal fit for the wing position. I’d also suggest his 2022 form has shown he is also an ideal fit for our half back role. And, given I think he is a much better player than he was in 2018, I’d also suggest that he would nail a mid position if he was given the opportunity. Not too shabby for a “plugger” I’d say.

  18. This is unreal. I’ve always thought he had good character. Sincere apologies for starting to doubt it. This is a super important signature for the club, particularly from a cultural perspective. I’m absolutely stoked. Now, let’s bring this (premier)ship into port.

  19. Oh, that’s supposed to be a facepalm? Every time anyone does it to me I just assume it’s a hand humbly covering their face as they bow to my magnificence.

  20. This signing could win us the 2022 flag. there is no doubt some bad habits have been creeping in and some selfish play, less willing to do the off the ball stuff that made us so good last year, not as strong with defensive running. Then a big name player looks at all options and chooses to take a huge pay cut and play in positions he ideally wouldn’t for the team. actions like that can filter through the whole club and could really see us quickly return to our absolute best form.

  21. Well done! Right on in every respect. Now with great delight I will update the 'Contracts' thread.

  24. You're seriously trolling. What exactly do you mean by "he can't man up?" His defensive work has been impeccable this year. There have been numerous games where he's saved multiple goals with his intercept marking. And your claim that he only performs against "rubbish sides" is just wrong. He was among our best in our win against Brisbane and in our losses to Collingwood and Geelong. He could've easily won the award on the Queen's Birthday. Your contempt for some of the players is simply too much.

  26. Look on the bright side. You have something to whinge about for the next 6 years.

  27. That was part of the reason I found it so hard to reconcile the fact he might leave. So happy he has signed on and committed to the club long term. Outrageous that we have basically all our core players locked in for 5+ years, astounding list management from the club. Onya Gussy!

  31. One of the best things about this signing is that an intelligent guy like Gus has done full due diligence and chosen MFC over more money and more midfield opportunity elsewhere. That's a huge endorsement of our club.

  33. As an aside, I think it’s the right decision for him too - he would’ve been crazy to leave this club at this stage of the club’s journey and at this point in his own career. He’ll become a club legend now. I don’t really understand what he said in the media a couple of days ago though - pretty bizarre given today’s fantastic announcement.

  35. Fantastic news. From a cultural point of view this is an important signing. Gus is a leader of the club and has proven himself to be a big stage player. We also know how versatile Gus is and so I have no doubt he will still be a vital cog in our machine in 6 seasons.

  39. I was quietly confident that Angus Brayshaw would re-sign for the Melbourne Demons. He definitely loves the Melbourne Football Club. The interview with Garry Lyon last year in the player rooms after the Premiership win when he proudly said "Our Club" was incredibly significant. This just goes to show how vital it is to have a positive culture and to win games regularly. A Premiership has definitely invigorated not only the entire club but the players. I genuinely wish Angus Brayshaw the very best and hopes that he has further Premiership success as a long-term Demons player and also ends up playing 300+ games for the Club.

  40. I like that Richardson said that, effectively putting a protective ring around him. The comment that there won't be an answer until the season is over, suggests to the media: stop asking. Hopefully, everyone at the club follows that cue. The circus is not Jackson's doing. Hopefully, others (his manager, freo people etc) now also 'go to ground' so to speak. He added that in chats with Jackson the club has said to him don't worry about the contract just play the best you can for the rest of the season, giving him some breathing space. I'm sue all on here would be happy for this to die down until our season is done and for now just let the kid play (and help us win another premiership).

  41. You are just plain wrong… Angus Brayshaw has turned his back on free agency, committing to the red and blue for another six years. The 26-year-old will be a Demon for life, with the new deal securing Brayshaw’s services until at least the end of 2028. Melbourne List Manager Tim Lamb said the club was thrilled to secure Brayshaw on a long-term deal. “Angus is a leader of our club and to have him commit long term is a brilliant result. His talent is obvious to all and his willingness to put the team first and play whatever role we need him to is a testament to his character, ” Lamb told Melbourne Media. “This signing is another great endorsement for the culture we have created and we know Angus will continue to drive standards within the group. “The versatility he has displayed across his career makes him an enormous asset to our club. The great thing is Angus still has enormous growth in his game and we are excited about what he will produce in the future. “This deal means another key pillar of our playing group will play out his career with us which is an important part of our strategy going forward. The example that our leaders have set in committing to stay together to try to achieve something special should give our members and supporters great confidence in the direction we are taking." The 137-game premiership player, and co-host of the popular Gus & Gawny Podcast, has averaged 25 disposals and eight marks this season, embracing a new role off half-back. Melbourne’s Round 3 clash with Essendon saw him gather a season-high 34 disposals and 20 marks. Brayshaw joined the Demons in the 2014 National Draft, taken with pick No.3.

  43. Yeah I was talking to a Collingwood supporting acquaintance who said we should throw everything at Jacko and let Brayshaw go. My reply was, yeah nah, if I have to choose, I choose Bryashaw thanks and take the draft picks for Jacko. I then said, interesting Pies are trying to offload a ruckman they threw everything at. And then walked away.

  45. Only if you read into his comments. The text was there - it’s a big decision, he will make it when he wants to, he has his own desires for his future. Evidently, he wants to play for the Melbourne footy club and with some pretty good players for the rest of his career.
