  1. Interesting discussion. For my money I will say this: Being disabled or mentally ill is not a free pass to do anything you like with no consequences (very much like the "economy" really isn't a universal justification for anything our politicians want to do, no matter how much they might wish otherwise). He is still perfectly capable of behaving in an acceptable manner in public. Being a mindless drunk thug is likewise not a free pass to do anything you like with no consequences. He is also still perfectly capable of behaving in an acceptable manner in public. Violence

  3. Great stuff here from Sir Marty Hore with the game in the balance. Wins the one on one, and follows it up with a big tackle for which he earned a free kick.

  5. Bloke bashes the daylights out of a mentally impaired man, but it’s all fine because they exchanged a few words and the victim knocked a beer out of his hand beforehand. F me, our society’s attitude towards violence is the pits. It staggers me that anyone thinks this is even remotely defensible, or that the two acts are in any way comparable.

  7. unprovoked What annoys me is how the video was cut and the "unprovoked, disgusting act of violence" story spun by the media got run. There is absolutely two sides to the event yet the media just shaped it to how they saw it and what would get the most reaction. Very poor all round.

  10. Why is there this debate about this Hawthorn supporters mental capacity. Like that was ever in question. Pretty much all Hawks suporters are NQR in the head to the extent they are arrogant obnoxious turds.

  11. Apparently the hawks fan has form with this sort of stuff, not condoning what the dees fan did but if you can’t handle your emotions and decide to knock beers out of people’s hands then stay at home and watch, I would ban both of them

  14. Kielty's debut is an interesting experience in social media. Drunkn is a fantastic contributor to Demonland and gives us a unique insight into how a player's family ride all the bumps with their son, brother, partner. I have big hopes for Kielty and hope he has a fantastic career with us, but the site in general has been much more accommodating of him as a player than we have with most others. We would do well to remember that every player in our team has a family and afford them the same respect that we have for the number 45.

  18. If this young man has an intellectual disability then he has truly been poorly ‘cared for’ by his carer. Getting on Hawks TV so he can be ‘built up’, then not helped to define appropriate behaviours at the footy, and also not being cared for enough to not get near an opposition supporter if he cannot control his physical responses is all poor. It all is so ‘hilarious’ to build him up and encourage him to carry on. I doubt he would have been called these things bu the Nufti who hit him if he wasn’t ‘engaging’. Then he is poorly managed to allow him into this situation if he has no abili

  20. High praise from Hibberd: On Hore: "...He drops back in space, helps the other defenders in the air and he is a great teammate. I love playing with Marty.” On Lockhart: "You just know what you’re going to get with Jay. He is as hard as nails and probably one of the toughest players I’ve come across in footy,” Hore and Lockhart would love hearing that from an experienced and succesful teammate. Only last week some on here were lamenting all the VFL standard players in our side. Hore and Lockhart may just prove the doubters wrong (along with Fritsch, Hannan, AVB)

  21. Pretty much sums it up DC. If the AFL was up to their virtue signalling best they'd ban grog at the footy. But we know that won't happen. I get sick of people constantly squeezing past me to either get grog or go to the pizzer during games. Go get grog, come back with 2 beers ..... Go to the pizzer, come back with more beers. And then there's 5 fools doing that in your row. Up down , up down ...... Just FO already.

  23. Who cares. Bad [censored] happens everyday, much worse than this. I don’t feel the need to be outraged by this whatsoever. Plus no one knows the full story, don’t just go by a few seconds worth of footage which doesn’t show what happened prior.

  24. I think it’s just really poor form to sink 3-4 pints when you’re off injured and had skin fold issues. It shows a lack of respect to what the rest of the footy club is trying to do.

  26. I am not familiar with the content of Hawks TV (heaven forbid!), but the interviewer is a disgrace. He actively seeks out this fan (it doesn't appear to be the first time, they seem very familiar with each other) to record a barrage of abuse of his own players and opposition fans at the ground with supporters walking past (possibly with young children). The interviewer is doing this young man a great disservice in encouraging his angst and foul language as a means of expressing himself. Is this supposed to be entertainment? It is uncomfortable viewing and somehow I feel the interviewer is not

  27. I'm more referring to people over the last few weeks calling for 'spuds' to be delisted whilst in their first year on a list. Calling for a player to be dropped is fine, it's the manner with which many deride young players trying their best that seems to have been missing in this particular case.

  29. Why do you need to drink at the footy? Aren't you there to watch the game? i almost never have an alcoholic drink at the footy, though the Dees make it almost necessary most weeks. Would you stay away if there was no drinking? It is there for the same reason as gambling - profits

  30. Agree, If selectors think that a player is good enough to get a game in the ones, then the player should be given a number of consecutive games to prove their worth. At least a minimum of 2 games and maybe 3 or 4. Totally opposed to selecting a player for their first game and dropping them a week later. It damages the players confidence and almost says'to everyone that the player should not have been selected in the first place. Sure there are players who put in a shocker in their first game, but that normally tells you that the player should not have been selected in the first place.

  39. Grog is always the problem at the footy. In the streets, violence can often be attributable to drugs and a mix of drugs and alcohol but at the footy its normally just grog. The old days of drinking from cans and long necks in the outer were bad. As a kid, you would witness alcohol fuelled fights every week in the outer sometimes involving two men fighting but often more than two. It was rugged stuff and I witnessed many violent scenes inside and outside the ground. There is little of that these days and fights are unusual. Like everything else associated with the game, ground author

  40. Weideman played well (I thought). Presented well and besides Mitch White was our only forward option. If he had held most of his marks that he went for we would be talking about him dominating the game. Got his hands to marks many times but just couldn't quite hold them. May come back in but another solid game with Casey should really boost his confidence. Spargo was good and was a link player with short kicks to position but probably didn't do enough for his ability. Baker is returning to some of the good form he showed last year prior to injury. Petty continues to impress. Corey wagner bus

  41. I just want to get this off my chest. A Handball is where the ball is held in one hand and propelled the other hand's closed fist. That's quite important. It has to be propelled by the fist. I am sick to death of seeing players brush the ball across their knuckles as they throw it and getting away with it. I don't care that it's made contact with their fist, it's still a throw. This is one of the fundamental skills of the game. Why is it adjudicated so badly?

  43. I like that Demonland allows Melbourne supporters to express their views (apart from extremist, defamatory and derogatory comments). But this thread is the most aggressive I've ever seen. I'm both amazed and dismayed by some of the arguments. Mostly, though, I'm disappointed that anyone can defend a man punching another person. It doesn't matter whether that person was intellectually disabled or not. It doesn't matter that the Hawks supporter caused the attacker to lose his beer. What does matter is that a single punch can kill or maim someone for life. Everyone, do yourselves a favour an

  47. Disgraceful attitude. Men in this country think punching is OK. If the Melbourne supporter couldn't deal with someone (whether disabled or not) knocking his beer out of his hand without resorting to violence, he's an embodiment of a cultural problem we have. If your response is "who cares", you're not helping.
