  1. I was there and spoke to him. Hand is still swollen but he was in good spirits. I won’t repeat what he said about a certain journalist as it won’t get past the censors. He’s not going anywhere. Great night and I feel much more positive about next season.

  2. Ok... got back home at 2am. Found it slightly weird the Bluey Truscott himself, just got awarded his life membership in 2024. Overall, it was an interesting night. Although Goodwin (whom I rate) spoke a lot about 'process' I felt (projecting) that there were some very pointed comments re: selflessness or at least, not making it about your self, and that won't be 'tolerated' going forward. Whom that was to, you can have your guess. The overall messaging was about unity and fraternity, both in professional speak, and 'mateship' speak ie: 'Perty, Greeny' etc. Glad Roffey got to speak and her endeavors acknowledged. This was my first Bluey, and I have been to a range of other BnF's in a professional capacity over the last decade. Themes spoken about felt fairly generic, and for me the highlights were Ben Brown, Alex Neal-Bullen and Ed Langdon AND Angus Brayshaw, all guys who speak with emotional gravitas, and go beyond cliched sound bites. Richness and depth, about the existentialness of their careers. Effectively, your legacy, is the people you help support along the way, not just those that support you in your own journey.* Everyone at the club (organisation) from FD, to board to bootstuder and physio and high performance team are people with their own careers trying to do their best on any given day at any given moment. *Spoke to a former coach today over coffee this morning, who was quite clear that the general public/punters will never understand or accept, the realities of the scrutiny that the position holds and in effect, when you take the job, there are very few people on the outside who appreciate the isolation and loneliness that the job has with it, as everyone has an opinion on things that you can control, and things that they think you can control. You're on a hiding to nothing...but people would give their left nut... etc etc

  3. No struggle at all. Three positives about the arrival of Tom Campbell; 1. Post Jackson and Grundy departures we now have genuine back up ruckman/training partner for Max. 2. He won’t cost the earth and whilst resolvedly waiting in the wings will mentor young Verrall etc at VFL level. 3. As Tom’s neighbor @jayceebee31 and his wider reputation affirm. Tom Campbell brings more than just his trade to the club. Ben Brown’s contribution was rightly recognized and applauded last night at the B&F. It goes far beyond his on field exploits during the flag year. People of his ilk should be welcome additions to the MFC.

  4. The B & F puts an end to 2024. Things obviously didn’t go as planned, but it’s a night to recognise those that have given a hell of a lot to the club. Knocking blokes for busting a gut week in week out says more about the person than the player. Not many are happy with how 2024 panned out, 2025 begins now.

  5. Give it a rest. Kade Chandler has shown year on year improvement and from all reports is a great person and team-mate. He plays the most difficult role in footy, it's good to celebrate his achievement. It's you who is showing obsession.

  6. Chandler top 10, proving once again that Demonlanders don’t know what roles players are asked to play. Half of this site is constantly calling for him to be dropped. I crown thee “the next ANB”.

  7. I accept the fact we have a few on here, including your fine self, who do nothing but whinge and whine, never anything constructive. Maybe you need to go and 'support' another Club. I was at the B&F and understood what each speech set out to achieve . It's footy, each year each club gets a crack at winning a premiership, but it takes a bit of luck, hard work and everybody on the same page, unfortunately this year we had a couple of books open instead,

  8. A wonderful person in all ways. Adelaide have gained a great footballer full of passion and guts. All the best Alex and I don't think any true Melbourne supporter would ever even think of booing you on the field. Thanks for all you did for the MFC.

  9. He's not Ron Barassi but he's a good small forward who improves each season. Kicks goals too. Do you have a point or did you just need to slag him?

  10. We were $51 right after the GF for the 2025 flag, but it seems as though punters are starting to realize that all the things that could go wrong did go wrong. We are not as bad as our results this season and now are rated a $26 chance. That top 10 is a nice blend of gen Z and absolute top line established players, so if Petracca can come back and become even half the player he is/was then it would be great. Oliver, Salem, Lever, Sparrow and even May in spite of a 10 finish were clearly down on output when you consider their lofty standing in the club. With stability, rookie players like Brown, Tholstrup and Jefferson can really surprise similar to the players Brisbane blooded. We have the list, so it is now up to the coaches to instill the confidence back in the side. I’m confident Goodwin has genuinely learnt a lot and is already hard at work doing all he can to get us back to where this club needs to be.

  11. Not having given the top ten much thought (there were a few other distractions this week) - but seeing TMac at 10 has lifted the spirits - a player who's best has been pretty spectacular (Perth 2017), but who has also been in there for a lot of years playing his role and contributing both ends of the ground. A great example of looking beyond the stats for a contribution (thinking those up the ground moments in 2021). Thought he/we rolled the dice for once last chance in '22 but really looking forward to what he can do in '25.

  12. I just, belatedly, watched Goody's speech from last night. All credit to him. It was a thoughtful, perfectly-pitched speech with inspiring ideas. Go Dees!

  13. Everything ok mate? A bloke just said well done to Kade for coming 8th and having a consistent season. He is underrated by many Whats with the overreaction?

  14. I just don't whinge incessantly without backing it up. SWYL usual input to any topic is 1 or two lines of whiny negativity. It's tiresome. Was I happy with how the year went, definitely not. Did I discuss it face to face with some in the Club at the B&F last night, sure did, never one to hide behind a nickname on a forum. Do I want to see improvement this year, hopefully yes. Do I believe the [censored] pushed by journalists and pundits, definitely not. Do I think some of the young kids at the club are going to lead the way, after speaking to some last night, definitely.

  15. I accept that we have a few supporters on here including urself who don’t think the club does anything wrong. Maybe u need to let supporters support the club how they want including @Sir Why You Little instead of looking through those rose coloured glasses u seem to look through. Everyone supports the club in their own way including u.

  17. You put so much emphasis on the number 14. Whereas anyone who actually thinks beyond that crude number knows that the comp was very close this year and a few close losses and all the other reasons (you'd call them excuses I know) could have made that number considerably less. Even less than 9. But enjoy your misery while you can.

  19. Congratulations to Jack Viney picking up his second Bluey Truscott Medal last night, equaling his dad Todd. Jack is a true heart and soul player for us Demons. To be honest I thought Jack and Max would go 1,2 but thought it would the other way round they both had to dig so much deeper in ‘24 with no Gus, Tracca down and out and Clayton at 80%. Congrats also to Alex Neal-Bullen, Kysaiah Picket and our Running Man Ed Langdon who just edged out Trent Rivers well done boys.❤️💙👍👍👍👍👍

  21. Finishing 8th in a team that had 16 Premiership players might be another way of looking at the result that doesn't belittle a bloke who showed commitment and development throughout the season.

  29. Richmond are a very important player too. They may have 1, 6, 10, 14 and 18 after Rioli, Bolton and Baker are traded. They will want to move at least one into next year. They also have a lot of later round picks that they could bundle to GC or Brisbane for draft points so could increase their bounty even further. https://www.zerohanger.com/afl/afl-draft-order-2024/

  31. For me Goody's speech was a veiled message to Christian Petracca in particular about putting ego aside. I thought it was quite pointed in that sense and it reminded me of the quote from Gus Brayshaw about sacrifice that featured in Between The Flags: 'It's easy to sacrifice when we can tangibly see the results'. Probably a message to the whole playing group but in particular Trac.

  34. Exactly. What I was reminded of tonight is that we have a fantastic core of players (past and present) that deserve our continued appreciation and support, for they are the 'team we love'. As supporters, let's do everything we can to ensure the off field component is as engaged and focussed as them.

  35. That was the bit that made me think maybe the all the talk about is terrible culture is BS, as Ben Brown doesn't strike me as the sort of guy would want to stay if he thought our culture sucked.

  36. Oliver won't be traded at this time, while I'm not against it for other reasons that is not about his health, I hope he puts in a solid pre season and works on his deficiencies to become an all round footballer.

  37. ANB was class personified. Complete polar opposite to the Bolton/Baker speeches from Richmond's B&F. Nothing but love in the room.

  38. Agree. 407 is the lowest winner’s vote count, excluding the shorter 2020 season, since 2016 when, funnily enough, Viney won with 407. We played finals the previous three seasons but the winner each year polled 600+ (in 2022 Clarry won with 608 and just one extra game played, given the additional H&A game this year).

  39. It’s interesting that in last year’s count, Max finished in 8th place with 426 votes. The club had two more games as it participated in two finals but Max missed more games after his knee injury in Brisbane. I suspect that the judges might have been a tad harsher with their votes as the losses accumulated but in any event, the club might want to look at a way to ensure the award doesn’t go to the player who plays the most games.

  40. Not at all, I thought that he was realistic, realises that there is a lot of work to do to get back in contention and urged the players to love the process required to put themselves into a position to contend. Overstated process a bit for mine, Gus described the grind and hard work required as enjoyable a little more eloquently than Goody but Gus is a brilliant wordsmith.❤️💙😁

  43. I think the AFL’s way of shafting us from a fixture perspective will actually please our fans. Plenty of Sunday 1:10 and Saturday 1:45 games next year will actually suit our supporter profile more than your night games that we essentially had for almost the entire second half of the season.

  44. We might have also been able to get Tholstrup with our original pick. The whole concept of pushing up the draft is very expensive but it can be justified because we have been doing it to improve our team while we have Petracca, Gawn and Oliver in their prime. I am not sure that it holds anymore and, rather than paying credit card interest rates, I think we should be more willing to receive it.

  45. Process? No one wants to hear about the Labour, all we wanna see is the Baby.!

  46. No it wasn't directly connected although considering Japan's run through south-east Asia you could say it's all connected. Harold Ball was murdered along with three other medics who were trying to reach a battle group before the fall of Singapore, but were intercepted by some Japanese. I believe he was decapitated. All MFC major trophies including also Sid Anderson, Bluey Truscott, Ron Barassi Snr are tributes to players who lost their lives as servicemen during WW2.

  47. You typify everything wrong with this club Wayne, still stuck in 2021 still clinging onto it when it has no relevance to how the team is performing in the now. Who cares how many premiership players we have, where did we finish in 2024?
