He plays like Melksham locks down on a Defender in Marking situations if he's least favoured to take the mark and brings it to ground. He's sense for goal is 2nd to none.10 points

Must be BB and McAdams for JVR and Disco. A big ask for McAdams given he's played about 90 minutes of game time in about a year.8 points

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then. Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, kicked booming goals and even physically taken the mickey out of men a decade and more older than he. It’s not often that a person of such tender age has proven to be a team lifter in professional sport but the Eagles have W’s to show for games at Optus Stadium against Richmond and Fremantle. Those wins were not insignificant and nor was their last up home game effort against the Bombers. For their part, the Demons have been slow starters in recent weeks and that, of itself is a danger sign. Their last four games have produced opening halves of 2, 3, 3 and 3 goals and, as a consequence, they haven’t been convincing when they won and unsteady when they lost. This week, they travel across the continent without two marking forwards in Jacob van Rooyen and Daniel Turner. The team might well be rested after a decent break but we won’t know how affected they are in the wake of two tough encounters within five days. Of course, you might say, that Narrm has the best defence in the competition but then again, it failed to prevent a six goal opening quarter avalanche from Carlton last week. The Blues were exceptional at converting forward thrusts into goals last week as they barged through that much vaunted back line with eight goals from ten scoring shots in a great wet weather first half to lead by 31 points. A few weeks earlier, Brisbane did much the same to them. The big questions loom for Narrm. Is it capable of playing out four quarters of football from start to finish, and if it can’t do so against a bottom six outfit, what are the consequences for when it plays the best of the best? The wet conditions also took their toll on the Demons’ hard-hitting but not overly endowed with pace midfield which needed readjusting and reinforcement. Coach Simon Goodwin nearly pulled a rabbit out of the hat when he moved Christian Petracca into attack. The problem for Waalitj Marawar is that, apart from wunderkind Reid, some of the players who led their charge a few weeks ago, the likes of Elliot Yeo and Jake Waterman have been out injured, along with Oscar Allen. If they can get these players back on the field, this game could be a close contest so team selection will be of paramount importance. The big warning for the coach and his team is that this outfit from Waalitj Marawar should not be taken lightly. I’m going for Narrm but all eyes will be on how the team moves in those opening fifteen minutes or so. I don’t reckon Scott will need another meeting with the umpires after this. They’ve sent him a clear message.7 points

The Allies squad has been announced with 2 notable names for the MFC. 1. Kalani White - named as a bottom age player (listed as 198cm). 2. Ricky Mentha - NGA prospect7 points

And we have Dangerfield wanting 16 minute quarters and someone else (Pies no doubt) wanting the clock to continue running at stoppages. They already have a flag from causing 100 stoppages in the last 10 minutes of games knowing the umps won't ping them for HTB.7 points

That would mean Fullarton is not, as otherwise they would have announced him too.7 points

I must be the only one with a negative story about Max. Saw him and his wife one night, and asked for a selfie. He looked like he was going to punch me! So I asked again - very politely - and he got even angrier, started yelling and swearing and said he was going to call the cops. I actually felt threatened for my safety at that point, so I left his house. Just a warning to others that he's not as approachable as he seems.7 points

Doubt it But I bet he mentions, bus delays, overcrowded Virgin lounge, long flight, schedule, old hasbeens needing a rest, burden of being 2nd on ladder, Umps, AFL.... etc6 points

I can't believe the AFL robbed us of our academy product Mac Andrew. Ugle Hagan walks straight to WB for an academy selection and the next year they disbanded the academies. Whilst you have Sydney and GWS rebuild on the run with academy products left right and center.5 points

Over the course of watching and supporting a lot of football in my life I had the privilege to see some greats of the game. Max Gawn is truly one of the very best I've ever seen. Sure I'm a bias Melbourne supporter but even non believers must find it hard to argue otherwise. He has year after year, been heralded as one of the best players in the AFL over the last decade. And rightly so. He has turned the tide of many a game and was the first captain of the club for half a century to help win us a flag. It's a shame ruckmen don't win Brownlows as much anymore. ( I'm perplexed why he hasn't). After all one could rote statistic after statistic about his on field prowess. But I wish there was another medal. One that encapsulates who Max really is. A damn fine human being and gentleman of gentlemen. Last week we saw Max get angry over an incident that I don't really know anything about. ( I don't know because it doesn't really matter). It doesn't matter because it rarely happens. Max Gawn may show signs of frustration and anger at times but it's not much for an AFL player. And more often than not when it does occur, it seems justified. But that's because Max Gawn has high standards. ( To my knowledge he's never been reported). Standards that go beyond just being a simple AFL player. He is a captain. And he takes this role seriously. Being captain is about leadership. But for Max leadership isn't something that happens for a couple of hours each week on a patch of grass. It's much ,much more. It's about standing up this week about homophobic slurs in the game. It's about taking in a teammate when he may be doing it tough. It's about standing by your mate when they have had to retire from the game. It's acknowledgement of being beaten by a better opponent. It's about visiting sick kids in hospital. Being an advocate of mental health or simply speaking to a fan when he's probably really tired and just wants to get a coffee at a cafe in peace. Like his on field performance, I could keep going. So thanks Max for showing us what a true captain of a club should be. On and OFF the field. I'm sure other Demonlanders stand with me in applause when I hereby award thee the unusually long but very aptly titled... "Captain of captains and gentleman of gentlemen and the best of blokes" medal. 👏. Thank you.4 points

i'm convinced the '6-6-6 rule' was brought in to curtail the likes of goodwin who played two off the back of the square, double diamond wing set-ups, and all sorts of differentiated tactics to do different things with structure the 'stand rule' was a direct response to bevo's tactic of having players move off the mark before the umpire called play on i think there was another coach who had a player 'shepherd' the man on the mark to allow his teammate to play on as well? plus of course there was the 'ruck nomination' rule, which was to stop jordan lewis being third man up under clarko the worst one i think is the playing on from the goalsquare rule - players routinely run 30m out of the square; it's absurd4 points

I am not convinced that Salem will definitely come straight back into the AFL side post injury this time. He may come back straight in, but I think they will have a debate at selection about it, which means he is not a lock. The only locks in the 23 would be May, Lever, McVee, Rivers, Gawn, Petracca, Oliver, Viney, ANB, Pickett and Fritsch. For Salem to come into the backline, Bowey or Howes would need be dropped, or Rivers would need to be redeployed into the midfield. Salem is behind Oliver, Viney and Petracca in the midfield pecking order (and probably behind Sparrow). I remember you had Spargo as a lock in Goodwin's best side mid last year and he was dropped shortly after and then left out for Laurie in a final.4 points

No, not every comment of course. In most circumstances it's clear from the context it is a posters opinion or an assertion of fact. Personally, I often preface comments with 'in my opinion' it used to do the infamous Lord Nev's head in. But I do so to minimise confusion. For example, in my opinion salo is 100% in Goody's best 22 and 100% is a lock when he is fit. Which is a completely different conversation to whether I personally think salo is best 22. Which, by the by, in my opinion he is.4 points
-
Yep you were right & I end up looking like a goose Mind you his selection totally contradicts Goody's earlier comments that McAdam would not play until he had several Casey games under his belt. Let's hope this works out better than the Petty or Bowey returns when they were clearly underdone.4 points

I can't see Woey being dropped as the game is in Perth, he has been sub several times and was one of our best when he came on against Carlton. If anything, Chin could need a rest with his knee issues on a possible hard ground. I would even have Woey in ahead of Billings.4 points

I'm just looking forward to us playing a forward who actually holds overhead marks!4 points

I wouldn't mind Salo coming in and taking some of Trac's midfield minutes allowing him more time I50. But assuming BBB is coming in other moves would also be necessary...Woey out (stiff), Windsor sub? In: BBB, McAdam, Salem Out: Turner, JVR, Woey Petty would be rucking I'd assume... If no in game injuries I think McAdam and Salem would be chances to be subbed out, similar to Bowey last week.4 points
-
I don’t think McAdam playing has any relevance to whether Salem is in this week. If he’s fit, he plays. Probably at the expense of Woewodin.4 points

Look forward to seeing him. The skills he supposedly brings are exactly what we need in the forward half4 points

Salem's Player Ratings according to Wheelo Ratings 2021 - 10th for MFC (9.68 points) 2022 - 29th for MFC (5.15 points) 2023 - 21st for MFC (7.88 points) 2024 - 18th for MFC (7.72 points) He is definitely not a lock in our best side.4 points

Daniel Turner and Marty Hore must be two very unlucky or fragile types of players. Hore has been injured for majority of his return. Got back and now copped more injuries. Turner has played max 3-4 games then injured again for likely 3-5 weeks. Hugely disappointed as both show to be handy players when fit and available.4 points
