Think of it as resting the foot. An abundance of caution. I would remind everyone also that when he came back on the ground on Sunday, he was totally unhindered and kicked 3 more goals. And he left the ground that way at the siren. Relax.22 points

Whether we get Harley or not we should still look to trade for GC's pick 4. 2 picks in the top 5 would be an unbelievable hand for the premiers to hold. JT will pick 2 very good prospects with those picks I'm sure.17 points

This really is absolutely incredible. To reach 70,000 is a historically important achievement for the Melbourne Football Club. I understand some of these members are last minute for finals tickets. But it still shouldn't be disregarded. To think that this amazing Club that we all love almost went extinct in 1996 when we almost merged! We almost went bankrupt a few times too. For many years we have struggled to get above 20,000 members. Then we were happy with 40,000 members a few years ago. If we continue to have success then we will hopefully continue to grow. What a time to be a Melbourne Demons member. Something I have been for 25 years. It really does bring tears to my eyes. May our beloved Melbourne Demons keep going from strength to strength! Let's aim for 75,000+ members in the near future! It just proves that winning Premierships and sustained success will grow your membership. It is a very simple formula. GO DEMONS!!! 🔴🔵👹13 points

We have a beauty right under our noses in Bailey Laurie. Needs to be given a good run of consecutive games. Very clever ball user and decision maker and no I am not his mum or aunty :)13 points

Was thinking about time at Melbourne today, its has been a bit of a whirlwind. Right from the start when we got the trade in he had to sit out the season because of the Jet Fumes and their peptides. Finally got in for 2017, completely changed his game and started really showcasing those footskills. One highlight in 2018 no-one talks about is the goal at Optus stadium to put us back in front against West Coast and then the sealer in that game. Obviously there was then that beauty against Hawthorn in the semi. That brilliant game against Carlton last year, THAT goal against Brisbane this year. The number of times we needed a goal and he was the one to supply it. Those checkside kicks that he made look easy. A great clubman, you need characters like Jake in a footy club. Now it seems that Jake will end his time at Melbourne the way it started, on the outside looking in. He copped it from a lot of us over the journey, myself included. I have the utmost respect for the guy and I just hope for nothing but the best.12 points

Really nice to go to a game and see a range of ages and different nationalities decked out in red and blue. Feels like the club is gathering a lot more new supporters - as opposed the the declining number of 50+ year old, homogenous, grumpy, ex private schoolboys in the mcc (of which I am one) that made up most of our 15k of supporters who turned up 10-15 years ago. we did well to hang on I really never saw us being the club we are now. What a joy!11 points

i'm going to make an argument against this... ...if we pick two talented players, they're going to sign the standard two-year deal for picks... ...now let's say they extend that to an initial three-year deal... ...but what guarantee do they have of breaking into a perennial finals side? in two or three years time they might be frustrated with their lack of opportunity and request a trade for greater opportunity elsewhere; what's the chance we'd get a pick 4 or 5 back for them? i'd say unlikely - at the moment first / second round picks like jefferson (who will need to get ahead of jvr and petty) or laurie (in competition with spargo, chandler) or jordon (sparrow, woewodin, etc.) can't be guaranteed a spot in our side, and they have the added benefit of being part of our system and have, with the exception of jefferson, experienced a 'taste' of senior footy we're far, far better off putting our eggs in one top basket and backing one player who is considered by champion data to be the best talent and to have the best underage #s since petracca to break into our side quickly and to influence our play10 points

We kicked 6g 10b from set shots including 4 posters and 3 that didn't make the distance We had more scoring shots than them every qtr. Coll kicked the first 3 g after horrendous First qtr turnovers from us. Only 6 for the rest of the game They kicked two in the last min to close it down to 4pts but this was a mauling by us. Gawn was blocked off the ball at every single contest. Not one free. They got two from the same Viney was immense. Thommo played v well10 points

I feel like he's a player who will clock up a whole lot of '4ths'. 4th in a Rising Star award, a collection of 4ths in Best and Fairests, a 4th Premiership medal, all that kind of thing.10 points

I have developed a different take on the All Australian selection. And as such here are my arguments for Simon Goodwin being the AFL 2023 CotY. 1. We have after the H+A season the equal best defensive/offensive metrics, i.e. the best balance. 2. We don't have a single defender or true forward listed in the AA. 3. In the last 3 years have been the only team to be in the 8 the whole time. 4. Simon has remained calm in the face of egregious personal attacks 5. Across his journey he has adapted and evolved in a number of areas, selection, tactics, and is renowned for empowering those around him (Burgess feedback) 6. Remained focused on the team first and not let media narratives detail him. Of course I get that Lyon and Kingsley have had good years, (even Voss (vomit at saying anything nice about Carlton) deserves some credit for turning that self loving ship/t of a club around), but the consistency Goodwin shows should have universal recognition. So glad he got the contract extension btw.9 points

I would think Melksham, Hibbo and possibly Ben Brown will retire. That’s 3 already. Dunstan won’t get a new deal. JJ will leave. Harmes will also likely go. And Grundy is almost certain to be traded. We have one rookie upgrade in McVee. How do we only need 3 picks then?8 points

It's not a huge elephant room. We wanted to keep him and were [censored] off when he sought a trade to GWS, when we were giving him game time, had invested in his development as an NGA and then a primary listed player.8 points

My professional suggestion is that all our key players spent the next 8 days lying down. Nothing could go wrong if they just stop moving so much trying to exist!8 points

McVee has a brilliant year to many he came out of nowhere to play every game. He is being recognised outside the club as his 4th indicates. Another example of our excellent recruiting when you consider he was a real "rookie" not selected in the main draft like the eventual winner Sheezel from North or runner up like Ashcroft.7 points

There’s a few houses along my route to work that still have their fences painted in Dees colours from GF week in 2021. And good on them too. I for one will never stop celebrating our drought breaking 13th premiership #stillgiddy#7 points

bedford got offered a three year deal at gw$ with more opportunity, as opposed to two at the mfc where he was behind pickett, anb, chandler for the speed forward role he made the right call and good luck to him7 points

We aren't getting Harley Reid, West Coast are more likely to take Curtin pick 1 than they are to trade that pick and miss out on a gun, W.A prospect like that. I think we are far more likely to push hard for the Suns first round pick with our picks 15, 24,36 and potentially a future first and hope we can somehow snag a combinaion of Duursma and Watson who would immediately add some incredible talent and X factor to our team. but that's just my opinion7 points

No to chasing him this year when he'd cost a fortune in picks. Yes to chasing him as a free agent if he's genuinely on the market. But if we trade Grundy out we'll need someone cheap but playable in next year and they might surprise and push to be a long term option. Plus we need forward help next year too.7 points

Harley Reid would definitely be a pretty amazing replacement for Jake Melksham if we sadly end up losing both Jake Melksham and Luke Dunstan to injuries. The thing is what would West Coast want in return for pick #1? Would picks #5 and #15(?) suffice? With picks #5 and #15(?) we could easily just take any of the following two players.... ● Zane Duursma ● Nick Watson ● Nate Caddy ● Connor O'Sullivan ● Ryley Sanders ● Colby McKercher ● Ollie Murphy ● Darcy Wilson ● Archer Reid ● George Stevens The list goes on! Why take just one young talented draftee when we can actually take two!? Anyway, what I am trying to say is that we are in a powerful position draft wise and I have ultimate faith in Jason Taylor and the MFC recruiting team. 🙏7 points

For $30 a year I'd implore all of our supporters who can afford it to consider taking out an AFLW membership. Supporting and investing in our womens competition now will contribute in a significant way to our on field success and pay massive dividends in building our womens competition and making us a big destination club.6 points

FIVE DOGS? This makes me nervous. Remember that time Petracca broke his toe tripping over his dog while playing basketball? Or the OTHER time his dog bit him and he nearly lost a finger? Or that time Stephen Tingay walked through a glass door... Ok that one had nothing to do with dogs. 😂6 points

What is Fishy? 😱 Only the Fish Creek Football Netball Club. Won the second most number of senior premierships of any Aussie Rules football club in Australia (behind Port Adelaide Magpies). Hopefully we can add #37 to go with #14 for the Dees in a few weeks time. If I had to choose only one it would be the Dees, but only just.6 points
