  1. Down at Gosch's now. The rehabber's are having a run. JVR doing laps and sprints with his own personal trainer. Melky on a running program. Lever, Gawn, Adams, Jefferson, k.Turner, Moniz-wakefield, Farris-white all in it together. Full activity, sprinting, running, obstacle running, kicking drills. They can't be far off. They are now doing a full field running and kicking drill and JVR has joined in (20 min simulation without opponents). Max is looking good. Up and down the field, running unrestricted and in everything. All supervised by Yze.

  2. So a with a little ryhm to the title, here's a thread to dump your wishes for the MFC's season to come. So, asides from the obvious premiership, what is something you'd like to happen from a player or the team as a whole? For me I think a few things I'd love to see this year are; in no particular order: * Trac get back to his goal kicking best - yes he kicked two in the 2021 GF, including a magic dribbler that started the 'Bang Bang Bang' , but I don't feel that Christian's goal kicking has been as sharp as it could be for a few years. There was a season (somewhere 2018 - 2020 I think) where he was absolutely on top of his goal kicking game and you could back him in to nail a set shot from either 25 out straight in front or 55m right on the boundary and I'd love to see more of that. * The MFC to slaughter Collingwood on the first Kings Birthday match; * The MFC to slaughter Sydney in Rd 3 and beat them by 12 points in Rd 24 to knock them out of the finals; * The MFC to slaughter Hawthorn both times we play them and clap their pittifulfy attended supporter group leaving half way through the third quarter. * Generally I'd like to see us put more teams to the sward early if we can. Maybe this is a bit presumptuous and arrogant, but after watching our team get dismembered and picked apart on so many occations, gee it would be good to watch the reverse and I will emphasise that this is more of a wish list and die hard supporters dream than an expectation of things to come.

  3. A fit and firing Salem. A 70-goal year from Fritta. A Brownlow for Clarry. A fully functioning, multi-pronged forward line. Kozzie re-signed. Development of a small lock down defender to replace Hibbo. Blooding of JvR, Woey jnr, McVee, Laurie, Howes, D Smith or AMW. Grundy to justify his price tag. Small forwards that kick goals! Thrash Collingwood, Carlton, Brisbane and Geelong. AFL and VFL teams to win flag to complete the trifecta!

  4. The players were given the ''day off''. Obviously some wanted to do some training.

  5. A high-functioning forward line, with accurate and confident delivery to said forward line.

  9. You pretty much nailed the reasons for my thirst for vengeance against those teams. Against Sydney in the final last season, I planted myself in the middle of a Sydney memebers area, because I couldn't get the online ticketing system to allocate me anything decient in the MFC members allocation, but was able to get decient enough ones in the Sydney one. Ended up sitting next to this obnoxious Sydney supporter who took offence to my passionate vocal support for our boys, which made loosing to them even harder to swallow. Loosing to Collingwood in 2021 was bad at the time, but didn't hurt in the end after we won the flag. Fortunately I was there at the Gabba in 2020 when we dismembered them, but asides from that, they've been a bit of a bogie side for us.

  10. Wednesday : training at Goshes - not training at Goshes Friday: not training at Goshes - really training at Goshes MFC and the multiverse of madness!

  11. Echo that as well. Two clubs we've just had awful problems with under Goodwin (since we've become a highly competitive team) I regret not enjoying the win over Sydney in 2021 more than I did. Our only win in against them in Victoria since 2010.

  12. I echo @Rodney (Balls) Grinter sentiment about really beating Collingwood and Sydney, two teams that seem to have to always beat us regardless of what form or talent they have. I can almost sense that expectation and privilege from their fans... it sickens me. Let's "slaughter" them!

  13. I had some involvement with all of this some time back. Essendon refused to join the Telstra deal and ran their website as a standalone. Among other things they used it to pay Hird, Lloyd, Mercuri and others outside the salary cap for 'marketing expenses' Not sure if the deal still stands. Actually just looking at their website it says copyright AFL and telstra so I am guessing that deal is over.

  15. 1/ Better player management; that is both injury management and performance management. 2/ Play with a more attacking mindset, last year we were far too conservative 3/ A better functioning forward line. If we do all of the above then I believe we will win the premiership in 2023.

  17. Did anyone else notice the team is really happy this year? It seems we have the right balance with things at the moment. The players are always smiling and cracking jokes in photos I see. Morale and training intensity is high, which can only be a good thing. I just feel like we are humming away ready to take the opposition to the sword. We are ready!

  19. - A top four finish and a Premiership. - Wins over Geelong, Richmond (Anzac Eve), Sydney, Collingwood (Kings B'day) A MUST!!! - More rotation of players through the year so there's a healthy competition for senior spots. - Kozzy contract extension. - News on our MFC facility finally chosen/ preparation underway. - Increased revenue for the club from it's investments. - Sign a big sponsor. - Oliver to win his Brownlow. - May to spear tackle Jackson and bust a few ribs without being suspended. - Oliver and Brown to shave their heads for a much cleaner look. Langdon to grow his back lol. - A healthy 60,000 supporter membership tally after a disappointing 2022 exit.

  20. A return to manic pressure and tackling. High intensity play that leads to long kicks, mopped up by Lever and co to propel us forward

  21. I think it's been said elsewhere that the players have today off. Or, Picket Fence went to Casey to watch and has been taken to hospital with hypothermia before he could report.

  23. True. But the Bulldogs made sure they didn't have a 'good' pick to use. Their previous pick in 2012 was 21. Clubs knew that so there wasn't much point in nominating him after #21 so WB got him cheap. As an aside, we got JV7 cheap in the same draft.

  24. To be fair, his knee injury threw a spanner in the works. Wiped out his 2021 season (when he was in the starting 22). And he never seemed to regain his mobility and lateral movement (which was not great even pre injury) in 2022. That's pretty common though. Hopefully he is back to his optimal physical shape this season. Though even if he does I think it is unlikely he'll make the ones

  28. Such a great person Ben, saw him at the VFL GF struggling his way up the stairs to the seats with his wife and kids but he was still greeting fans and didn't seem put out at all. Support this cause if you can!

  30. I guess one thing about Billy was that despite his ultra professional approach, he was ultimately assessed as not being 'quite' good enough as a player for AFL level, which somewhat disappointed me, because I loved the effort, occational flashes of brilliance that were on display when he played and also the romance/club lotalty of the father/son player that he was. But I think the other main point that Spencer makes here is that perhaps players on AFL lists don't need to be stars or even play that many games at senior level to be a great contributor to team sucess. Time will tell if Taj becomes the Jack Viney or the Billy Stretch, but either way it sounds like he's making his mark on the culture of the MFC in an intangible way that money can't buy in this era of professionalism of modern football.

  35. Yes, the titles have changed a lot over the years. When I was a kid growing up in the 60s, these were the positions on the field: B: Former rover who has lost a yard Loneliest man in the world Rock of Gibraltar H/B: Enforcer Key Defender Jack-of-all-trades C: Real goer Pivot Racehorse H/F: Avenue to goal The hardest position Will-o'-the-wisp F: Resting ruckman Spearhead Goalsneak R: One kick behind the play Prime mover Borer into the bottom of packs. 19th: Utility 20th: Big-hearted trier. A host of exciting young prospects, natural left-footers, honest battlers, bean-poles, big occasion players, nippy small men and club stalwarts who have all been knocking on the door have just missed selection and will be running around in the early game. ============================================================================ Things started to change back in the 1980s and a new terminology came into being. Teams now looked like this: B: Tagger Stopper Sweeper H/B: Rebounder Negator Springboard C: Breakaway Instigator Linkman H/F: Runner Tall option Receiver F: Crumber Converter Finisher R: Tall On-baller Small I/C: Overlapper Tag breaker =========================================================================== As of 2023, we now have three backs, three forwards, twelve rotating mids and five on the bench.

  36. I could potentially attend this.. Knowing my luck I'd probably show up with 100 other supporters on the day with no players in sight only to be told over the phone by staff member that they've unexpectedly had to move their closed session to China.
