  1. Long time since I have posted, but given my love of all Kozzie does, and the fact my child adores him, I have a real interest in his staying at the club. From what I know, PA believed they had Kozzie over the line last year, but they even admitted they weren’t sure how they would please us if we required a player in return for kozzie. They will still try though. People need to remember that Kozzie is not from SA, and his family are mainly in WA, so the pull isn’t as big as people make out. Demons are doing all they can to keep him, and he loves the club, so I feel we are in a strong position to keep him. Having Burgoyne come and train is a way to help him stay as they are close. On that, keep an eye out at the end of the year for another of his mates who I believe wants out and is keen to come to Melbourne. (unsure if any of this has been posted, as I can’t be bothered reading all posts from the last year that I have missed!)

  9. He may not be our best player, but he's arguably out most irreplaceable player. I can't think of a small forward that would be on the market that kicks 45 goals a season with the tricks and defensive pressure that Kozzie provides. At least with Jackson departing we got a readily replaceable player with a chip on his shoulder and hopefully a point to prove. It will be a set back for 2024 if he does end up departing.

  10. Good luck to Sam. always thought he had talent, i think the bombers 2022 game plan would suit him.

  11. I agree with this. You'll probably get a lot of unpopular opinions because it worked in the flag year, but to think this was going to be sustainable for 2nd year in a row were kidding themselves. We even had a thread dedicated to 'loading' which made many people on here look very silly in the end. It's definitely going off topic of the thread but I'm still bewildered why our coaching staff simply refused to rest players when needed as we were completely banged up come September. We had fit players ready to go at Casey but Goody's reluctance to reward form and play fit players bit him in the [censored]. I'm confident Goody has learnt from this and we will not see this occure again. If it does, kiss top 4 goodbye.

  14. So Burgess took us from a physical rabble to a team that steamrolled into the finals and won a flag, but now he's to blame for a season when he wasn't even there? Come off it. I agree on the resting players and lack of rotating others through, but to blame someone who wasn't even there is ridiculous.

  21. I was a big Jackson fan, but he departed disgracefully and disrespectfully on many levels, so I feel accordingly towards him now. I never liked Weidemans footy besides seeing a little potential (should have tested him in defense though) but the classy way he just departed, like a real man with fine character, leaves nothing but complete respect and best wishes for Sam.

  22. Sam Weideman another young man with plenty of class who acknowledged our club in glowing terms, helps explain why he was loved so much by his teammates, he sounds as disappointed that he didn’t quite make it as we are. Good luck Sam.!!

  23. Highs- Winning 10 on the trot to start the year even though we appeared to be running purely on Adrenaline. Getting to see the boys live in Alice and seeing Kozzie light the place up with 6 goals against Port. Our huge wins against Dockers and Lions on their home turf when we were playing for a top 4 spot. As mentioned by Spirit the win against Carlton and that goal by Kozzie. Lows- The three losses in a row and wondering why the wheels had finally fallen off. The second Collingwood loss was such a hard fought and bitter loss. The two finals defeats and trudging back to the car in the muddy MCG car park knowing that our boys had fought valiantly but in the end had run out of legs and that we had lost that superhuman competitive edge. Luke Jackson pulling the pin on our magnificent Football Club and that really hurt more than when Hogan deserted us.

  25. He's been poised to deliver for 7 years now... I love the guy, I watched him kick a bag and mark everything at Box Hill in his first year - his team mates were being slaughtered at Geelong at the same time - Roo's last year - but the bottom line is every season after that was 6 years of 'promise'...

  26. Absolutely there will (hopefully) be lessons learned from the physical management in 2022. But Burgess wasn't there. So blaming him or assuming what he would have done is just silly. That's the part I disagree with. You're right with the coaching staff point, we don't know how much say Griffith was able to have in terms of selection etc, I would wager not much given what we know about Goodwin's stubbornness with such matters in the past.

  27. Agree 100%, Cats to get negative COLA of 10%, in fact let’s go for 20%! They could absorb the Suns player 700K into premiership team????? They have more advantages than any other team by a country mile! While we all have a natural negativity for the Pies, Tigers, Bombers, & Blues, I’ve got a special disdain for the Cats!

  28. This view won't be popular because of the flag, but I think there is a fair degree of accuracy in this. By all accounts a large degree of resilience was achieved by pushing through pain and minor injuries but it was always highly likely come back to bite us. Hopefully no long term affects for players going forward.

  29. Burgo’s system burnt the players out and no wonder he left after a couple of seasons. His method has a short use by date and he knows it. He’s another Ross Lyon who flogged the players to the limit for short term success. It was reported that Griffiths closely followed the Burgess system. The players were broken by mid season and it was inexcusable no one saw it coming. Barely any players rested for niggles and minor injuries all season. Only one debutant and bench players knocking on the door rarely used. Blame should be shared by the coaches as well for inflexibility and hubristic selections. They just thought “bang, bang bang” would happen on the flick of the switch till the very last.

  30. I’ll possibly pose the point that rather that torching Griffiths, there should be all praise for how bloody next level Burgo is at his job. It can’t be understated how big a get he was for the club. That said it MUST be an issue corrected over the off season.

  31. interesting, but i have heard it reported that the majority of his family is actually based in sa rather than country wa, which was the opposite of what i thought his dad is actually in sydney? which is it? 40+ goals per year small forwards who apply incredible defensive pressure are rare commodities and i'm hopeful he's going nowhere - hard to see how crom or the power could 'afford' to bring him in without giving up something significant the other way, particularly given that they've just brought rankine and francis in respectively this off-season i'm hopeful, rather than expectant, that he'll be a long-term demon

  38. To me, cheating in our great game involves a deliberate attempt to obtain an unfair advantage by circumventing the intent and the spirit of the rules in a contest. That's what Bartlett did. Our great game has many rules that are designed to provide a fair contest and that are open to interpretation. That there was almost universal condemnation of Bartlett's conduct should be enough to satisfy my definition.
    1 point
  39. Yes. Because the (then) VFL had to change the rules to prevent players from unfairly taking advantage of the previous rule.

  42. Gus has never been the lean ripped looking athlete, but asides from injury getting in the way, I think he generally knows what it takes fitness wise to play at the level and doesn't shirk the track work to get there - he's basically mr work ethic when it comes to this stuff. I'm unconcerned.
