Good luck Majak - so sorry that injury hit at just the wrong time when a replacement ruck was needed for Max. Still your contribution to the whole team effort in Perth for the 2021 finals campaign was invaluable, providing a valuable foil for Max in trying drills and scratch matches. Thanks for your contribution.9 points

Nick Larkey is the guy to go for in the next couple of years imo. He's 24. Norf will be going absolutely nowhere for his entire football career. That's almost a dead cert. Forget about playing finals, if he wants to know what even winning games is like, he will not see out his career at Norf (jake bowey about to go past him on wins) . Rfa end 2024. No reason to think he would cost big coin, he'll be wanting out.8 points

I don't know where to put this but thought was interesting to share. Since R10 2020, we have lost 10 times. 8/10 of those losses are from only 4 teams: Freo, Dogs, Swans, Collingwood. The outliers are the dodgy Adelaide game (R10, 2021) and a GWS game (R16, 2021) which are aberrations. It was interesting hearing on the couch how J Brown was saying Melbourne matches up really well against Brisbane for leg speed and spread around the contest. I feel like we have the Dogs metal post GF but need to look at alternative ways/matchups for Freo/Swans/Collingwood down the stretch.6 points

reports on the underage footy have kynan brown carving it up as an underager currently, so yes, i would think there's every chance he'll be a first round selection in 2023... rookie me central report on him from three weeks back: One of the hottest starters on the day, Brown looked like making a menace of himself in midfield. The bottom-aged Melbourne father-son prospect has enjoyed a solid start to his NAB League career and that continued on Saturday, as he drove the Chargers forward with bursts of speed and his sharp left-foot kicking. While that touch of polish could be added, Brown has shown some nice signs as a hard-at-it player who can carve his way forward. week before in round 8: In just his second NAB League outing, the bottom-aged Melbourne father-son candidate topped his side’s disposal chart with 25, including four scoring shots. After a steady start, he began to come to prominence with in-and-under work at the contest, producing second and third efforts aplenty to help will the ball out. He also provided a good deal of drive in the second half, bursting forward and kicking a clutch goal to draw level in the final quarter. That touch of polish is something Brown can refine going forward, though his effort was evident. and from his first run around in round 7: One for Melbourne fans to watch as a potential father-son candidate, Brown (son of Nathan), produced some exciting moments in his NAB League debut. The hard-at-it midfielder got a run through the engine room and also impacted up forward, snaring two goals from 17 disposals and four inside 50s. Both of Brown’s majors were fair efforts, particularly the second term snap which he seemed pretty pleased with. Still a bottom-ager, there’s some exciting traits to work with.6 points

It is interesting to note that despite unfortunately never playing a game for us, nobody has ever called Majak Daw a 'list clogger.' I think that reflects well on him.6 points

Were we to win another flag this year 🤞, I’d bare no ill will if Jacko left. Of course id much rather him stay, but if I were to see a flag in person, on top of finally see us raise the cup last year (all be it from here in Melbourne), then all would be right in the world.5 points

I would have loved for him to play just one game for MFC. His raw emotion when we won the G.F last year was a lovely thing to behold. Good luck Warrior, you have done yourself proud with your achievements, I hope the next chapters of your life are fantastic. Cheers P.F5 points

He looks so happy at the Dees - I can’t see him leaving “Asked after Thursday night’s win over Brisbane — in which Brayshaw starred in with 29 disposals — whether he’d remain at the Demons next year, Brayshaw told CODE: “I bet you’d like to know. I’m conscious of not giving everyone the headline. But I love the club, I love my teammates. That’s something that will take care of itself.” https://apple.news/AJfX49D1MR7WLh5__yhVQEQ5 points

Real estate industry sources are telling me the search for a new home in Melbourne is off - Luke and his parents can no longer afford to buy here because of interest rate rises. Forget the players’ CBA - we’re going to lose him because of the RBA!4 points

At end of 2022. It’s a No. He was in his prime but not anymore. We need to save $$$ for the contracts over the next few years. Smart buying is not Gunston. More appetite if we wanted a young forward is to go for someone like Jake Riccardi from the Giants. Would be a cheap buy, young (22) and still plenty of upside.4 points

I really hoped he got to play at least one game for Melbourne, awful timing to get injured while Gawn is out.4 points

Please see my comment above. I was responding to the poster complaining that Majak didn’t do this earlier so we could pick someone up on the mid season draft. I have nothing but respect for Majak and what he’s overcome.4 points

I find the talk of Jackson (and Brayshaw) leaving weird, tbh. I imagine the press conference and a reporter asking him why he left, if not for just money... and Jackson saying "... after these last two premierships in my three years so far at Melbourne, I figured I should roll the 18-sided dice and abandon my red and blue teammates and the lure of a truly historic football dynasty and hope something better happens in my football career. It seems the smart thing to do." Doh, what?...3 points

The law of averges is actually a fallacy, but the law of large numbers isn't if you believe the current sample size is too small to be a reliable predictor for the future (although 14 rounds is a good sample size). There is a tendency to revert to the mean so if we assume that 56%/50% is reliable then we should expect 9.21 & 3.12 to be improved upon, but there is no reason to expect Trac & ANB to suddenly become dead-eye [censored]. They never have been & their inaccuracy so far this year in no way logically means the opposite will happen for the rest of the year. Having said that, I hope I'm wrong 😄.3 points

The timing isn't great I agree. It will work against both Melbourne's & particularly Casey's prospects this season. Still, it will provide more opportunity for Jack Bell to show what he can do for Casey, and push for some consideration as a Melbourne player (late draft, rookie) in 2023. https://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/1135842/bell-reloading-for-another-shot-in-20223 points

Gawn aside, Thursday's team was the best we have fielded all year. Rolling into finals we will do our outmost to keep the side really settled with minimal changes, injuries aside of course. I can't see us doing anything radical now, other than obviously bringing Gawn back, and potentially making the call on Hunt vs Bowey and deciding on whether we keep Weideman in and drop Bedford or continue to pursue a small forwardline strategy once Gawn is back.3 points

did a rough count and got 22 votes for Viney (was either that or working) he has played his best footy in the past month including 3 losses. if he keeps it up he will gain more for sure3 points

Gunston can play more than the Fritsch type role...I wish we had him on board this year as he would make our forward half so much more potent. Great player...3 points

McKay and Curnow will be Restricted Free Agents next year so there would be no need to trade. However, they both seem very committed and passionate coming into a finals then premiership window, playing with mates so not sure why they would leave to join a similarly positioned club. Money unlikely to be a motivator. As we like to think of our players in that way and to forfeit some $, I would be surprised if McKay and Curnow don't feel the same.3 points

There is fair argument to be made that Carltons twenty plus years in the wilderness is a direct result of thst cheating and the penalties they copped - in particular the draft related ones3 points

Lloyd was the only sensible voice on that show re: this issue and sees it from a champion players perspective. Its a distraction to Dees fans, as was Hogan, but after the Hogan saga, I'm immmune now to this and what will be will be. Hogan was a 'great hope' for the club. Now we have a team full of them, not to mention the top shelf coaching panel. In terms of the once in a generation sweet spot we have (under 30ish)... Oliver, Trac, Viney, lever, salem, Fritsch, Sparrow, Brayshaw, Petty, Pickett, Spargo, ANB, Langdon etc. Plus the young latent talent pool yet to break into the side. Plus Goodwin, Yze.... Good luck to Jacko no matter what he does.3 points

i wouldn't gus as a half back >>> gus as a defensive wingman >>>>> gus as an inside mid3 points

If Fritsch displays a single selfish act again against Adelaide I'd drop him. He had three against Brissy and the handball he didn't give to Trac in the square is one of the most bewildering acts I've ever seen in team sport at this level.3 points

Does heading off to play for West Coast for big bucks constitute being bold? I would have thought it was the other way round. Taking a long term approach with your career and staying at your first club for a lesser remuneration for the sake of team success down the track and greater rewards financially and personally later on is being bold in my view.3 points

That PSD thing is totally bizarre. We paid PICK 2 for the guy 3 years ago! We’ve developed him with the best modern ruckman in the game, had him play in a premiership, given him a great environment with the Brayshaw’s and his teammates, the club deserves compensation if he leaves. I doubt Luke would want what Hutchy describes that for Melbourne, he’s given us a lot and we have given him a lot. I’d be shocked if he wanted to leave, but if he does there’s no way he’s screwing the club that has been so good to him out of a pick or player in trade. Hutchy talks total rubbish. I hope Luke stays, I think staying at least another two years makes the most sense.3 points

Went to Entrecote last night for a family birthday (booked prior to the stoush). Without diminishing from the severity of the issue and noting that the place was absolutely packed with diners, I was thinking that if a fight started at this venue, it should have been for the lack of value for the fare on offer.3 points
