I would have loved for him to play just one game for MFC. His raw emotion when we won the G.F last year was a lovely thing to behold. Good luck Warrior, you have done yourself proud with your achievements, I hope the next chapters of your life are fantastic. Cheers P.F20 points

It's true, he met with a group from Freo on Saturday at Black Rock (not Mordialloc ) and told them he's decided to stay. The whole group were so distraught they then went and lost to Carlton. True story.11 points

Looking at the disposal stats for Weids game on Thursday would be completely unfair to him. He competed hard, and in ruck contests I felt he was at absolute worst 50/50 with his direct opponent. He used his body, did teams things, to me it looked like a much improved version of Weid and certainly something to build on.11 points

After watching that Goal Celebration on Thursday Night, it is very hard to see LJ leave this year. He is winning footy with a bunch of mates, that all work together. That would be a huge bond to break, regardless of monster offers across the border. The MFC will also offer a very nice package We are in a window of Possible Greatness, LJ is a big part of that, Max isn’t getting any younger. If he does leave at years end, i will be sad and a little shocked Mates stick together10 points

Given that Hardie bats about zero for anything coming to pass I would think this is great news...8 points

Will always remember him celebrating post GF. You would swear he had just won the Norm. Great bloke to have had around the club7 points

Please see my comment above. I was responding to the poster complaining that Majak didn’t do this earlier so we could pick someone up on the mid season draft. I have nothing but respect for Majak and what he’s overcome.6 points

All the best for the future Majak. You led the way for young Sudanese in the sport. Well played!6 points

Thanks for those pertinent stats Dazzle. I was at the game and thought BBB played an excellent first quarter. Particularly as Brisbane was pressing hard at the time. In fact, I thought he was in for a big one but, as you say, he faded. Not all posters understand that stats must be read and considered within a context.6 points

I will keep watching the games and you read the stats sheets We could well have been a lot further behind without Brown’s work in the 1st Quarter. But you believe whatever you want6 points

From this point on we went to a level not seen for a long time. Picture Kozzie playing along with Byron in that era. He hurts.5 points

After many posts of you trying to explain I still don't think anyone has a clue what you meant. Leave the faceplams alone mate. Try to be a peaceful poster and stop making enemies.5 points

All the best Majak. Certainly a real pioneer for Sudanese kids starting out in the AFL. All the best in your future and beyond.5 points

Shame we never got to see him out on the G as a full fledged demon but wish him all the best in his next chapter.5 points

I think it was still a good indication that he had 2 early shots on goal in the first quarter. The 4 marks in the first quarter alone and 7 disposal still a great starting point which is why I think he was certainly busy in that quarter alone. Finished with 1.3 for the night which to me looks like he's slowly getting back into the groove of hopefully hitting the scoreboard better in the next few week. 2 weeks in a row now he's had 4 shots on goal in each. His form is reminding me of last year when he came back into the side. Just slowly starting to get back into the swing of things.5 points

Is this the same Brad Hardie that said Brayden Maynard was a lock to go to the dees in last years trade period......... Move along5 points

Fwiw, i watched the replay with a focus on our talls. They all did well at crashing packs, halving contests knocking the ball to advantage. Weid put his body into contests like we haven’t seen before, he competed cleverly in most ruck contests. BBB looked better and worked harder too. jacko is doing fine at plumping his value. I suggest wer go unchanged until MAx is right, the smaller forward setup with different use of the talls seemed to work well for us.5 points
-
He’s a top 3 handballer in the team too. Can use both hands and understands how to handball on the up. If he can break even in the ruck, crash packs and fire off a few lovely handballs he doesn’t have to hit the scoreboard.5 points

I would call the three of you out for your inherent sexism here but I'm sure you'll just respond by telling me you're not sexist and you just don't like Caro. Of course, I'd rate the chances of you using these words to describe a male journalist at 0.5%.5 points

Browns contract isn’t sizeable. It’s about par for what it should be for a bloke whose played as many games as he has, and definitely unders for a Coleman medallist. I thought Ben looked great early. He was very mobile and giving the Lions defenders something to think about. At the ground I thought his energy was brilliant. It’s not his fault that our game style gives him difficult shots - in fact it’s part of the reason we got him and he’s in the team. I watched the replay and saw 3 separate players point down to teammates to indicate to them not to put the ball in the air after the first quarter. It’s a team sport, Ben definitely played his part on Thursday.4 points

Jeez you're hard task marker Nev. If you're judging key forwards on effective disposal as main key criteria then I must be doing it all wrong. Currently working part time in the development league club and I know the coaching staff and AFL recruiters value far more bigger key stat indicators for young developing key forwards such as work rate being the top priority, and the number of contest they're able to get to and from. Coaches will absolutely put a premium on that if your work rate is high the goals will eventually come. I've seen a big Improvement in his work rate and I think eventually the goals will come. Prior to the Pies game I thought his work rate had been poor and hadn't McDonald not been injured I reckon he was close to being dropped.4 points

I'm with you on this SWYL. Brown was a presence around the ground and this debate reminded me of why I like G Lyon as a commentator. He progosticates on what he sees in front of him, with insight as a former great player with a feel for the game, as opposed to say David King who seems to trawl through stats to then come up with a point to make or a theory. Make the facts fit the reality maybe?. No better was this illustrated than the Cats V Tiges call on Saturday, when Lyon smartly called for what the Tiges needed to stem the bleeding, including the move of Baker into the thick of it, and behold it and a few other moves were made by Hardwick. Not a stat quoted by Lyon, just this was how he saw the game strategically. I'm not comparing you SWYL to Lyon btw, just noting similiar appoaches in these instances. Admittedly I'm a big fan of Brown after the fianls series last year, and I think he gets a bad wrap when the ball is dropped on his head and he has trouble. He stays in for the medium term IMO4 points

I can only see BBB coming out of the side, if he slaps a team mate with a celery stick at a vegan cafe4 points

7 disposal, 4 marks and yes 2 scoring shots is certainly busy first quarter for a key forward in my eyes. And in fairness those 2 scoring shots were from difficult angles. But yes, faded as the game went on. But i think Harris Andrew really tightened up because he was certainly playing far too loose in that first quarter.4 points

Scott went on and on about what a good guy Stewart is and not once did he say "we all hope Prestia is ok". Shows you exactly what kind of club Geelong is. Putrid. You want to see remorse? Have a look at Chandler's reaction to his tackle. He was almost in tears and he reached out to the opponent to check he was ok. That is true remorse for a far less intentional act!4 points
-
Gleeson makes a case that Stewart should have been referred directly to the Tribunal and no grading scale (careless, severe, high) applied thereby leaving it open to the Tribunal to consider the circumstances stewart-s-strife But the MRO/Football Manager rating leaves it open to the Cats to argue that it wasn't 'severe' based on other cases. Can't see the AFL now arguing it should have been rated 'deliberate.' Showing my cynicism but could it be that the Footy Manager was looking after his twin bro by rating it at all. On a related note, while Stewart was apparently upset at 'letting the team down' and supposedly a real good fellow I haven't seen an apology to Prestia or a reference to Stewart checking he was/is ok.4 points

While yes the cats are reliant on quite a few ageing players, I think they’ve brought some good young players in this season that are showing some serious zip. I personally think at their best this season they look more dangerous.4 points

Bedford must stay in in my view. He's effectively the forward version of the Bowey inclusion in late 2021.4 points
-
Weird did much more than those stats suggest - good physical presence in the ruck, several clean taps to advantage. Showed improvement without getting among the goals. Played his role.4 points
-
What I want to see continue is Bedford building a body of work in the role he played Thursday night. He absolutely deserves to retain his spot and could be an important component of the team in this years flag tilt. The other thing is to play Weideman in kahoots with Dogga whilst Maxy' recuperating. Who knows but this could be the circuit breaker role that elevates Weed to the contributor that we've been crying out for. I thought he was far from disgraced as the second ruck against the Lions.4 points

Scott - We had the flu and covid and a tummy bug but we're not making excuses because we've been loading and Tom Stewart was missing and Selwood was scared of Viney and May is a bully and Max is too tall and I won't mention Oliver and Petracca are too good. The quarters are too long which isn't fair and we only got double the frees! I mean what are the AFL thinking, we are Geelong where is our new training facility and home ground advantage? It's a conspiracy! But no excuses from me.4 points

Kysaiah Pickett could show no further improvement for his entire career and still never be out of the best 22 of a premiership-contending side. Also, he's still just 21, and definitely showing signs of continuous improvement.4 points

21 disposals 10 led to scores one goal 18 hit-outs a team-best nine tackles 89 per cent efficiency by foot 10 contested possessions six inside 50s. He is only 20! Take a minute to absorb that performance. On any other day that is a BOG performance. That honour goes to Viney.4 points

He remains close with Trent, his parents are happy with his welfare at the club, he wants to repay the draft faith and the decision to give him an extended break in Perth pre-season, the offer is as flexible as he needs it to be, he wants to continue learning from Max and he generally isn't motivated by money or stardom.4 points
