  3. Steven May on SEN today - “At Melbourne we have been trying to educate and raise awareness regarding racial vilification. The person at the Crows who came forward is extremely brave, and I don't think that would have happened a few years ago.”

  4. I reckon 10 years of playing in front of nobody is paying off now for GWS. They thrive in empty stadiums.

  5. Adelaide Crows' forward Taylor Walker will miss six games and make a $20,000 contribution to an Indigenous programme after making a derogatory comment against a North Adelaide Roosters player. There is no place in football or in society for racism. His career must be in the balance.

  6. That’s a pretty ordinary post, friend.

  7. If it were a club member who, say, posted what Tex said on social media to a player, they would rightfully be identified by the club and have their membership torn up. Walker should be cleaning out his locker. Bloody disgrace.

  10. Yep. This one put my skills to the test. I've seen database corruption before but never to the point where the database engine won't run at all. Very happy I got it all back online with no loss of data - wasn't feeling very optimistic about it when I went to bed at 3am! Thanks everyone for the kind words. Re: what @Deeoldfartsaid - I'm an interstate member too whose lifeline to the MFC is this site. I'd be lost without it.

  12. CHF has had to bow out, so I’ll give this a crack: We are sitting third after belting the hapless suns last week. Should have won by a ton, but 1.6 in the last cost us that little piece of trivia. We need some good results over the next 3 to set us up for the finals. Looking to Monday night WCE lost to Pies, and badly. Advantage us We thrashed GCS. Advantage us WCE are at home, with crowds. Advantage them Jack Viney out: advantage the media who will keep saying ‘it’s not a good look’. Demons showed defensive application all day, and scored over 100 points. Advantage us. The Eagles are a different team on their own deck, with crowds and umpires on side. We have had an ‘interesting’ travel schedule, but the time in lockdown could be positive for the team on the back of the big win. We will have to win the middle, keep the ball in front of us (not let it leak to their runners from contests) and not bomb it into their intercept defenders. Nic Nat to have 5 good mins per quarter, Max and Dogga to own the rest. Harmes to hard tag Kelly, and not be allowed to kick for goal! They have looked insipid at times and could roll over easy, but I think they will make it a contest due to home ground factor I see this as being a strong opportunity to grab another 4 points. Dees by 42 after a good start, a bit of a WCE comeback, then clearing out to a comfy Monday night win.

  13. Don't take this the wrong way...we can work to eradicate the words but what troubles me is the thinking behind the words. For all the enquiries and work on racist issues in the AFL It's obviously still there and at club level, not just the odd bogan in the crowd. The words are hurtful but why do AFL players in particular still have this racist thinking? I'm guessing Tex is not the only one by the way, that would be impossible to believe. So whilst he's been caught out voicing his thoughts others will be harbouring the same thinking.

  14. You're right. Lets be like NSW and not do a lockdown, and then let cases get out of hand, and then do a lockdown that is only half effective, and then do a hard lockdown, and then have 300 cases 6 weeks into lockdown, and then be in lockdown for another 4 months. Great strategy.

  15. As has alcoholism and depression amongst young people. My best friend is a GP. She told me yesterday that she felt like crying during all the mental health care consults she was doing with young people. She had no advice to give them anymore, because she felt the same. I've been in survival mode each time we've gone into lockdown. But last night I just broke down. It's all just got too much. The financial, mental and emotional pressure on me and my family and everyone I know, especially my single friends, and those who work on the frontline, is too much! And I am well aware how lucky I am compare to so many people. I can still work from home, and my husband while his business has really suffered, is still classified as an essential worker so is able to work. We are getting by, but so many people aren't. We got takeaway last night, and I swear the restaurant owner looked like he was about to have a nervous breakdown. We got way more than we could eat because we just felt so bad. I'll be eating day old Pizza and crying into my wine tonight.

  16. Since we are all locked away, and can't go out to spend money, might as well send it to Demonland to keep it going. $200 on the way.

  18. Absolutely rapt. I backed the Giants in on the punt tonight, out of hope more than anything. If we win we are back on the top 2 and maybe top if Essendon can beat the Dogs, which isn’t beyond the realms of possibility.

  19. Selwood’s (to me) should be closer looked at than Green’s. He ran past the ball, collected the player head high, it was pure luck he didn’t get him worse. The action should be looked at, not the result.

  24. Wow what a ****ty night for Geelong. Danger in hospital Tuohy done a hammy Rohan done is groin Selwood should be suspended in "what didn't look good for the game" lol no chance that [censored] gets weeks. And a 4 goal loss to the giants seconds on their home deck.

  26. This is what I find the most disturbing. You would think that being the captain a footy club and playing alongside indigenous players in a time when there is such awareness of racism that it would be the last thing that you would think of saying. I think back to how the indigenous players felt during the camp with the talking stick and lack of cultural sensitivity. The osiitive out if this is that the Crows official reported it and such moments are capable of having a profound impact

  27. When you live down here (in Vic.) esp. after the last 2 Deta outbreaks, managed effectively for the first time in the world, you actually appreciate Dan Andrews and his team. His decisionfor 8.00pm shutdown yetsreday was first class. The rest of your post are meaningless platitudes which are of no interest. Everyone should keep any sort of political claptrap off this site and keep it for the News Corporation Letters pages.(This last comment is clickbait so don't bother responding to the irony)

  29. The majority of people that visit Demonland are not Demonland members and have never signed up an account and I guess are people who just want to read about what people are saying or get information in regards to draft picks, trades or preseason training etc. Just under 6000 people have signed up an account over the 16 years and probably only a small percentage of those are active posters. Posters come and go. Some post a lot and others more infrequently and some once or only a handful of times. But yeah most users of the site are people who just want to read what others are saying like you might a newsletter or newspaper but don't feel the need to comment which is totally fine and just as much what the site is there for. All users are welcome whether they read or post.

  30. The last twelve hours has been more stressful than the lockdown without Demonland
    5 points
  31. Things could be worse. For example, my wife's book launch at La Mama was due on July the 17th. The lockdown started on the 15th. Her father's funeral is tomorrow. More than 50 people wanted to attend: the figure is now 10. Yet there are still morons who take the likes of Alan Jones and his ilk to heart and pretend this plague has to do with the infringements to OUR FREEDOMS.

  32. Without going too hard, I would say one of Harmes' greatest issues is that he is a bit wrapped up in himself. He's not a match winner, so he's a role player. If he doesn't want to play a role, he has no place

  36. We should consider ourselves lucky being in a well developed country. Although i also get the damage being done to small business and sole traders with each lockdown. Heart breaking for many who are losing their livelihoods. The recent pic here is pretty confronting. Mods feel free to remove if you feel the need. This is a hospital hallway in Columbo Sri Lanka being used as some sort of ward with all beds having been over run, i have been told their equivalent to say Box Hill Hospital here. Apparently they have no oxygen, intravenous or any other assistance. As for intubaters ...well. The other pic i have is not postworthy here and shows bodies piled side by side in an ante room as there just isn't enough space in the mortuary area and too many to be picked up by the funeral parlours etc. Very tough times in many places i'm sure and already have been in the likes of India, Bangladesh etc but Sri Lanka is copping it big time at the moment unfortunately. Puts our worrying about where finals might be played into a bit of perspective.

  37. Thanks for starting this thread whispering Jack. Its a serious issue that must be totally stamped out of not just afl but society. The fact its highlighted, hopefully even if it doesnt change stupid mindsets at least it may not be voiced. The Adam Goodes doco broke my heart and while Walker has rightfully expressed remorse there is just way too much of this going about. Walker should know much better.

  39. I think pragmatically the AFL argument makes sense; everyone who would follow footy here already does, we're an AFL state. Anyone who jumped aboard the new team would be abandoning their existing team. It just dilutes the pool for the existing clubs. For me personally, I already have a team. I wouldn't jump ship. I already have a team I barrack for and I'm in way too deep to change now. It's embedded in my DNA now. I know plenty of supporters of other clubs who feel the same. I'm pretty meh about it. I don't really care one way or the other. I wouldn't go watch them play unless they were playing Melbourne, in which case I'd barrack against them. I think there's also a chance people will get all excited about it for a few years and then numbers will drop right off, especially if the team had a few lean years. I probably wouldn't bother with it if I were the AFL.

  40. You are saying that it is Dan Andrews locking down Victoria. When in fact it is not. It is the best health advice, the PROVEN advice, that is locking us down and not for the first time, thanks to the incompetence and blind eye turned by the nuffies of NSW and the likes of Alan Jones who tell the community that this is not a big deal. So they go about their lives, ignoring the health measures, spreading it to the entire state and now almost the whole country! And maybe you should tell the family of the 29 year old who died at home this week that we are hysterical. Or the family of the young woman in her 30s. Or maybe you can tell my friend who is a front line worker who at 35 nearly died from Covid last year while taking care of sick patients who told him they didn't want to wear a mask because Covid isn't even that bad.

  43. The last 48 hours has certainly stripped me of any confidence or excitement about finals being played in Melbourne. It will be hard for Victorians to get into WA with the confidence that they won't be subjected to 14 days of quarantine even once they're already there. Ultimately I'm sure the AFL doesn't care who is in the crowd provided they can play finals in front of a crowd. If that means 50,000 WA people sit in a GF played between Melbourne and Geelong for example, I doubt the AFL will care.
