Neale and Lester are significant upgrades on Mathieson and Madden, albeit Neale might be underdone. Brisbane are imposing, but whilst it's true they've won their last 7, all but one of them have been in Queensland, and of those all but one have been at the Gabba. They've had a great fixture run after their shocking opening month. So yes, they've beaten Port and Richmond, but they did so at the Gabba, where they've barely left for two months. They're surely no less beatable than the Dogs were last week.11 points

Only one guarantee - we will be swearing at Rhys “Free Kicks: 15-2” Mathieson when he gets his 8th free kick for dropping the knees.7 points

None of that is too unreasonable. I prefer it when opposition supporters are feral flogs ...7 points

This and we get him now, we don't need to use a Draft pick on him in November, he gets 6 months developing with the best defensive unit in the AFL. I like the balance of the picks, a mature player that might push for selection and a young player that can be developed. One eye on the now and one on the future.7 points

It’s been rumoured that after Melbourne had a long, hard look at Declase over the preseason, its recruiting people wanted to make sure that he had the strength and fitness base to make it at AFL level. So he went back to Werribee, worked hard and ... as a result, at the Midseason Draft, the Demons selected Fitter and Turner!7 points

Rayner is also missing, he’s easily in there best 22. It’s a good test, if we beat them tomorrow, then we can beat them come finals no issue, this will be there best chance. Loose and we have some excuses.6 points

And for the same reason, ie consistency, I suspect jj will play wing and captain Jack the inside mid role jj has been playing in vice captain jack's absence. Minimises positional movements6 points

Last year the Lions went in with a clear plan to belt Max around the head, jumped into him in marking contests and block him off the footy. Was bloody infuriating to watch. Hopefully we learnt from that and are ready to protect Max this week as he has copped it particularly since the Tigers game.6 points

Maybe Carlton could have benefitted from your insight before the last trade period?6 points

Exactly. You're hardly going to pick up a Steve Silvagni in the mid-season draft. Brutal reality is if these guys were 'that good they'd have already been on an AFL list. They come to the club as the 37th & 38th player on the list and now have to work their backsides off. The list is in good shape, the coaching brigade and development brigade is as good as its ever been and the club is up & about. Let's back them in.6 points

He's your typical country lad. Aggressive in the air and and strong one on one. Likes to peel of and take a good intercept mark but his reading of the play is one of his strengths. As I said before, pretty courageous as well. He's been mixing it well with the Albury Tigers seniors who are currently sitting top. They breed them really tough down there and he's a bloody tough young fella.6 points

A great kid who's been playing for the bushies and Albury Tigers alongside our very own Daniel Cross and Jeff Garlett. An intercept defender who reads the play extremely well. The fact he's played against men puts him in the frame at some stage this year.6 points

not what he means. He means it would be poor form by the club to make someone be the medical sub in their debut5 points

Sparrow obvious choice. Brings the added grunt and physicality required for Brisbane. I would’ve been miffed if Baker was named. Good result.5 points

I like how the changes to the team are always minimal. No more than needed. Building consistency in team selection is a feature of recent successful teams. Get the balance right and let it continue.5 points

A Collingwood supporting friend who is down on his team at the moment, just said that the advice to the crowd to duck away from the ball was the same game plan Buckley is telling his players.5 points

He was quiet because the Dogs made a point of using the Brayshaw wing, to try and exploit us, which didn't work because Gus played such a good game. Good teams now specifically try to not play down the Langdon wing, but with him out of the game, we are much more vulnerable to the ball coming out of our forwardline quickly and the Lions having multiple avenues to get the ball into their attacking 50.5 points

Craig Jennings was speaking with Gerard Whately on SEN today on a regular segment where Jennings provides an extremely interesting insight into coaching strategies. I only heard part of the segment, but the topic of the importance of role players came up. Jennings said that ANB is the ultimate role player, so much so, that even if people might believe he's the 22nd best player in the team, he's still the first player picked each week. (Bit of hyperbole there, I would think. I somehow think Gawn, Oliver and Petracca and a few others might all get picked before him.) He went on to explain that ANB's role is to free up Petracca so he (Petracca) can "do his thing" and leave it to ANB to block, stop and otherwise clear a path.5 points

They are a very very good side, and much more even across the ground than the Dogs, who outside of their midfield are only average. IMO they could easily snag the flag this year, and we must show the same intensity and application as we did against the Dogs, or we will get cut up. No Langdon is a massive loss. I really don't know if we can win it without him. Need some massive games from our small forwards to ensure we keep the ball locked inside our forward 50 as much as possible, so the Lions don't go for a quick kick down the wing to try and open us up without Langdon.5 points

Agree but most of their other payers aren't. I was at Metricon last year us V Lions and all they did was bump, push, scrag Gawn off the ball all game. Umpires did nothing so no doubt they will do same and we can only hope the Umpires do something this time.5 points

We've needed to get a young key defender on our list to develop, so this pick made a lot of sense. Sounds like someone who reads the play well and makes good decisions, which is exactly what we want in a player who will be part of a defensive unit.5 points

I have seen this guy play this year for Werribee, seems to play mainly on the wing good size runs hard. Can kick it, one of those players where the ball seems to jump of his boot with no real effort. Will slot nicely into Casey and may push for selection if we are hit with some injuries.5 points

Sensible advice. These are Collingwood players after all. Who knows what you might catch from them.5 points

Except he has been adding mayo on the infectiousness and speed of infection of the current virus type. Very poor to use fear to justify the lockdown extension. national/scientists-find-no-evidence-strain-is-fast-moving-beast-2021 "The government justified yesterday’s extension of the lockdown by claiming what is now being called the “Kappa” variant of the virus is more contagious than previous outbreaks and infections are occurring more readily between people who only briefly came into contact. University of Melbourne Professor James McCaw, an infectious disease expert and member of the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee, which advises the national cabinet, said this was not supported by the data he had seen. “There is no epidemiological evidence that this virus spreads faster,” he said. “There is no clear reason to think this virus is spreading in different ways. “We need to be very cautious. We are on an absolute knife-edge in Victoria about whether we bring this under control rapidly or it develops further. But I don’t think it is helpful to seed alarmist or doomsday-type thoughts into the community.” Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton, who has described the virus strain at large in Melbourne as an “absolute beast” that was spreading “in settings and circumstances we’ve never seen before”, toned down his language yesterday, as acting Premier James Merlino detailed the state’s next stage of COVID-19 restrictions." Scare mongering by the Vic gov't is not what we need.5 points

Each to their own, but I don't think we'll be stupid enough to trade a first rounder for a B grade half back. I like Maynard, he's a nice player, but you don't give up a first rounder for a player of his type.5 points

Plenty of threads I could put this but this is as good as any. I find it almost laughable that Europe is able to create a system that allows the Euro’s to take place with the players flying in and out and being isolated but Australia’s states after a year of this have still been unable to come up with a system to create freedom of movement to allow professional sport to continue. The players and staff would be amongst the most tested people in the country, it just doesn’t make sense to me. With proper precautions and systems in place this match could easily have taken place in NT.5 points

Yes, but it's at Werribee's discretion as to whether he plays against them if the sides play, and he returns to them for finals if he's delisted.5 points
