  1. Good call @Lord Nev. I heard 4 years, you heard 5. Your source was correct. Hats off to you and good result for the club as he is definitely a heart and soul player. Now we need to balance the midfield better and play Jack to his strengths.

  2. It gives me great pleasure to announce that Jack's value is once again acknowledged and rewarded. A loyal clubman of the highest integrity (and a pocket dynamo/wrecking ball on field)... Eat it Jack-Detractors!

  3. you have no idea lmao so many non classy players win flags, like you gotta have those types every side does but having 22 lachie whitfields (classiest player i can think of) isnt going to win a side but your LRT's your prestigiacamos your liam pickens who just care about their clubs their teammates that sh it invaluable and when it comes to it. i'd rather have players who care as much as viney does over anything else. viney is that type because u know when your deep in the 4th, games on the line or even if your blown out of the water they're gonna have a [censored] dip because they ride every bump of that game just like us fans do and the result stings them. Yes jones and jetta are winding up, not best 22 but their contribution to our club cannot ever be questioned and their love and passion. you dont get that feeling yet from your next wave like you do from viney

  7. IF (and it's BigFooty so it's a massive "if") we were to 1. Trade Oliver, AND 2. Do it to get into the first round this year, of all years, I reckon I'd just about pack it in.

  8. SENSATIONAL NEWS. JACK IS A STAR AND WILL BE A DEMON FOR LIFE. OF COURSE, HERE IS THE BEST WAY TO SUM UP JACK SIGNING FOR ANOTHER 5 YEARS
    8 points
  9. Very glad he has signed on and clearly wants to be a Demon for life. Players like this don’t grow on trees. Gawn, Viney, Petracca, Oliver, May, Salem and Langdon are absolutely core players and must keep along with our young talent in Rivers, Pickett, Jackson, Fritsch

  10. I never doubted anyone who said he’d signed on for five years. Nice work.

  11. I've heard that Polec would like to come to the Dees and has informed NM of that, but it sounds as though the informal chats the two clubs have had around what a trade might look like, we've been a fair way apart. Sounds like North are quite delusional on his trade value, and are really keen to shed his contract from their books and MFC's interest is conditional on only paying a limited portion of his salary and have a significantly reduced trade value on him. It sounds like whoever wants Ben Brown is going to encounter similar hurdles

  12. Why? He's 26, vice captain and a top 3 B&F for the last 5 years

  13. For this type of commitment he'd wanna produce a couple of sons

  14. Great to sign him up long term. Good work @Lord Nevand @Lord Travis Keep posting the info you hear despite some demonland posters going full on detective inspector gadget mode. Sauce seems pretty good I would say ?

  15. I just think think he like some players would be getting restless because of the lack of success. Oliver's already had 5 years in the system and he's played finals once. It would absolutely play on their minds knowing they have a bloke on the list named Nathan Jones who's barely had any success. Do they want to go down that same path? Putting my football hat on, as a player, would absolutely hand back all my individual achievements if it meant I was constantly playing finals each year and knowing that we were so close on the brink of success. Watching the likes of Brisbane, St Kilda go past us in the last 2 years would leave a pretty salty taste in their mouths. Having dealt with Oliver from our bushies days, he's a competitive beast who just wants to win every single game and taste success. He's never once come across someone who's in for the individual stuff.

  16. Melbourne has drafted Alyssa Bannan with its first pick of the night, identifying her athleticism as a key asset for the team. At 177cm, Bannan is a promising key forward with strong hands, who will pose as a dangerous target inside 50. While the 18-year-old has the ability to push up the field, she will add plenty of flare to the Demons’ forward line with her agility at ground level and ability to hit the scoreboard. MFC website

  17. Forget the years, had to happen. Heart and soul player. I feel better for the signing. Good on you Jack.

  18. Picket - I know you're happy enough being the class clown but I also know you're astute enough to already know the above without the backing of a VFL/AFL veteran. The only difference in my opinion is putting Oliver in a top-4 team to realise his potential. His potential will put us in the top-4. Trac didn't need to go to Richmond to step up and take responsibility.

  22. I'm in a gloomy mood, much like the weather here in lovely Melbourne. Reasons: (in no particular order) 1. 15 new Covid cases today 2. Trump appearing to recovered unscathed from Covid 3. Oliver wanting to leave the Dees 4. Having no control over any of these factors.

  23. I'm not sure if I've ever uttered a statement as ridiculous as this (and I don't give any weight to these rumours), but if Oliver leaves the club they can factor me into the trade negotiations as well. It would be devastating to both my dwindling care about the MFC and football in general. Choo-choo-choose us Clarry.

  24. Clarry is not going anywhere, this is just more garbage by Sam Mclure to try and feel relevant.

  25. Megan Fitzsimon has been drafted with pick No.35, joining the Demons from Gippsland. The 18-year-old is an explosive footballer who can play through the middle and up forward, and she knows how to kick a goal. Fitzsimon has had a major impact during her time in the NAB League and will benefit from playing alongside some quality teammates at AFLW level.

  26. There seems to be a bit of Chinese whispers going on I think. There's a bunch of rumours that have become intertwined and turned into something else. Not super reliable sources for all this, but the different elements are: - Sketchy rumour that Cripps may request a trade to WA due to an illness of his partner. (Not a good source at this stage) - Carlton approached Melbourne about Oliver (perhaps knowing the above) but were immediately shot down. (Good source) - Oliver was 'angry' about his Bluey placing. However it wasn't anger at the club/coaches, it was just a reflection of his competitiveness and maturity (or lack thereof). (Tom Morris, who obviously has MFC connections, spoke about this a few days ago) I think those things have merged into 'Oliver is angry about his BnF placing and has requested a trade to Carlton'.

  28. Viney Limited just check his seasons stats Jones Finished Nev almost the same Max excellent player. Mate heart and soul IS NOT going to deliver a flag, Classy players will Viney signing reeks of yet another "Panic" by our Footy admin that saw us do the same thing to sign Goody for an eternity! No wonder we are so bloody average Viney 5 years FMD

  33. Absolute bull dust. There wouldn’t be a player on the list unhappy with having May after this season. The players know across the industry if you change clubs you have to pay more. Lever and Tomlinson have been disappointing but neither of them were handed mega deals that completely blew up the cap. Harmes, Tom McDonald and Brayshaw have been more disappointing and we paid them too. Oliver either already does or will get paid more than them, he won’t be worried about Tomlinson’s wage. Coaching, direction of the list and role in the side are surely far bigger factors.

  34. "Several wins" = 2 (Carlton and, if you want to argue it, GWS). By comparison, every single finals club had at least one win by less than 10 points against a non-finalist. Some of those clubs registered that win against Sydney, North or Gold Coast - all inferior clubs to Carlton. As to clubs "better than us at the time", define that criterion for me? Were we "better than" Carlton in Round 2, after our loss to West Coast and their loss to Richmond? Were we "better than" Gold Coast in Round 6 when we were 1-3 and they were 3-2? Or Collingwood, when they had won their two prior games before playing us, and won their two subsequent games? GWS were above us on the ladder when we beat them, too. And you can discredit the win over St Kilda by virtue of it being small (by the way, it was 3 points, not 1), but then you'd have to discredit the Dogs' season-defining win over the Eagles by 2 points, which forms the basis for many people to argue the Dogs deserved their finals spot over us. None of that is to say all is good and well at Melbourne, but I just cannot stand revisionism. Why make up these two gripes to attack our season when neither is really all that accurate?

  35. Clayton Oliver had a far far better year than Jack Viney. How Viney finished in front of Oliver is fantasyland stuff.
    5 points
  36. why would it be any better? Serious question 2020 we had no injuries and we had several wins under 10 points against lesser clubs. Not once did we beat a club that was better than us at the time except St Kilda and that was by a point. Membership drops by the biggest margin of any club. Chairman tells the players they are soft and the list goes on. We have a non performing forward who is in our top five paid players (T Mac), we have sold the farm for an ok at best backman (Lever) and we've thrown money at a journeyman such as Tomlinson. Sure we might luck a turn around but objectively the prognosis is not great with the present coach and gameplan.

  37. I've reflected on the list in my earlier post and believe The GM's 'Span of Control' is too wide. There is a real case to restructure the GM department and separate roles into those directly related to football outcomes (The Coalface) and those that support those outcomes (The Back Office): eg To reclassify the list in my earlier post: Football (The Coalface): List Manager - Lamb (incl recruitment) Coach (and Player Development) - Goodwin Sports Science & Medical - Burgess Technology - ? AFLW Coach - Stinear Football Support (The Back Office): Football Admin - Academy - ? Sports Psychologist - ? Player Development (Admin) - ? Casey Football Manager - Maynard (I think) This structure creates a real focus on the reason we exist: to regularly contend for the premiership and win some. The Football Manager (The Coalface) role is where we need a new person. One who can ensure we have the right coaches and development staff to maximise the players capabilities.

  38. Oliver is the one we need to keep more than anyone else...try to get him on a 5+ year contract and build around him. He is our best player. I hope/imagine he isn't wanting out because of a B&F finish. Also doesn't grab me as the kind of competitor who would give up and leave a club because of lack of success. Seems more likely to be someone who would want to drive the club forward. I don't know how others feel, but my perception of players who achieve ultimate team success with their original team is that they are very often held in higher regard than those who have swapped teams. It just seems to be a greater achievement. That goes for many different sports, not just footy.

  39. Huh!! Maybe to Melbourne (and its supporters) making the 8 is the goal. Other clubs are chasing their next piece of silverware! For some anything less than top 4 is a failed season. In terms of review after review after review 'until you get the mix right': how many chances do people get if they regularly get it wrong?

  43. On the whole "Oliver's upset he finished 5th in the B&F" thing, I think that could well be another example of a truthful comment spiralling out of control. I suspect, if there's any truth to it at all, it might be that Oliver was disappointed in his own performance this year, because he sets a high bar for himself. That could easily then blow up through miscommunication into him being disappointed with the club, as if he thinks he has an entitlement to a higher placed finish.

  44. I watched footy classified last night and I thought what they said was pretty accurate. I mean how many reviews do you need to do before you do a full and comprehensive review. It also shouldn’t be that hard to work out the two people that need to be held most accountable are Goodwin and JM. If this review is comprehensive I expect both should be sacked, highly unlikely that will happen though but it should, in my opinion.

  47. I don't see why this is a big deal, even on footy classified last night it was made out to be something not good for the club. Every club will do a review of all personal at the end of the season. You want to get better and you need to ensure to have the right people/structures in place to do this. If there are better people available for roles with in your club you get them. Some clubs will decide that they are happy with the current staff and direction, others like us that need to take the next step and improve. It is more important now as you need to reduce your soft cap spend, you want to review to make the right calls.

  48. Even if this was true why would you trade in a draft compromised year and while still under contract, he is only going to get better and be worth more in another 12 months plus is required if we want to improve next year, look no further than Cats trade for Kelly. Totally beside the fact he has only ever shown love for the club and team mates

  49. I think we all need to calm down and accept Coq au vin's point. Definitely no debate - Steven Armstrong is a better player than Adem Yze and anyone who disagrees needs to be able to demonstrate how they would solve all of the club's problems. Clearly we let the wrong player go to the Eagles. (Another mistake by Goodwin/Mahoney/Pert)
