  1. To be fair, Oliver has a point. Fritsch executed a pinpoint kick to a team mate in space; this is not ‘the Melbourne way’. However, ANB retrieved the situation by missing the relatively straightforward shot at goal; in keeping with ‘the Melbourne way’.

  2. Melksham saying on radio that tonight is probably his lowest moment in footy -considering he’s been suspended for an entire year speaks volumes about how pathetic we are

  3. After 53 years of following this club I felt like something died in me last night. That was simply insipid. For years, the highlight of my weeks during Winter has been watching the Dees play wherever I may have been in the world. If you guys only knew the lengths I have gone to to not miss a MFC game! At times, it’s cost me a small fortune. I woke this morning with the realisation that I just can’t handle the disappointment any more. It’s too effing demoralising. For now at least, I will step back and concentrate my valuable time on other things and avoid anything football related for as long as I can. I won’t be renewing my membership in 2020 which has stunned my family but my decision is made. If I don’t post again, thanks guys for the humour, fellowship and debate. Take care. PD

  5. Another camera angle would show Oliver's lips moving, and lip reading would read something along the lines of "good vision but don't kick it to Neale-Bullen because he can't kick" .....

  6. What a night. Thought I'd cheer myself up with some nice hot chips, but I accidentally dropped them and, before I had a chance to pick them up, some clumsy bastard trod all over them.

  7. So what happens to membership numbers when all the supporters from the 50s and 60s drop off the perch? It'll be like Wall Street 1929

  8. It's not that it's acceptable, but what else did anyone expect? Once I saw May, Petty and OMac were out and replaced by Chandler, Spargo and Stretch and we were fielding the shortest team in living memory I knew we would lose by over 5 goals. This season was over months ago yet people are still outraged after each loss. I don't get it. The challenge will be in how they rebound next year, not next week.

  9. That’s true actually. You’ll often see them together at the museum, or going to talks at the Wheeler Centre.

  10. Midway through this year i was a big support for him to get another year. But his last few games have been extremely poor in terms of performance and leadership. Absolutely cooked. Needs to retire gracefully. I would rather Tom Sparrow playing next year then Jones.

  11. Did what I thought was the right thing and made an effort to take myself to the MCG on a cold and rainy (at times) night. I was not rewarded with the same effort from the team I have supported for so long. They looked like they had all mentally checked out of this season already and were planning what they were going to do on their holidays. Thank you Melbourne. Thanks for ruining my night and the whole year. Merry Christmas everybody.

  13. This club could drag me down the Monash Freeway by the balls and then hose me down with vinegar and for some reason id still renew. Kills me but I bloody love the joint. Already endured the worst of the worst, so why would I stop now. Deep down I must get off on this [censored]. Bring it on.

  15. Hopefully not the only ones. We have plenty of deadwood. Bolded for truth. It looks exactly like that. There's plenty of posters on this board that are in line with that thinking as well.

  16. Got this from bigfooty.. Jay Clark on MMM said that Burgess is planning the most brutal fitness pre season ever for the melbourne blokes, apparently the club wants to find out who's serious. Watch half our list sook and complain to Paul Marsh because our pre season is way too hard.

  17. Current football department issues aren't Pert's fault. The club's response in the coming months are for what he should be judged. New Balanced signed on for three more years; he's had a good week.

  20. Normally at the footy I’m yelling and screaming and giving it to umps or whatever, tonight I was just embarrassed, it was the most inept performance I’ve seen in a long long long time, I can’t even remember being this embarrassed before. Neeld years we were young and list was inept, we have some very good players at the moment, few that have been all Australians, one that came third in Brownlow last year. What the hell Goodwin has done to these players I just don’t know, there’s at least 6 in tonight’s team that won’t be there next year but they’re playing with no confidence no heart no nothing, it has to be the coach, he doesn’t get them playing for him, they’re pathetic, half the time tonight I had my head in my hands, just could not watch, they’re a fifth rate team, they need a new coach and a total cleanout!

  21. Couldn't ask much more of Viney tonight: second for disposals and clearances, first for tackles (9) and I50's. He's at least trying.

  22. Given the team we had on the park, I'm just not sure what people were expecting. Seriously. We had a midget forward line with 2 actual forwards in it, is the lack of conversion from I50's a surprise? People should stop looking for clever reasons as to why we're performing badly. We have 17 players unavailable, including some really key players at both ends of the ground, and we're putting what is largely a VFL-quality team on the park. Surprise surprise, we're losing - and at times, losing badly.

  23. With all due respect to the Gold Coast Suns and Tony Cochring, if you're delisting a player like Jarryd Lyons, you can't be given a priority pick.

  24. Would love to see the final ladder as WCE 2nd and Geelong 3rd so Cats have to travel to Perth for their first final!! It would be poetic justice after Scott's year long protestations about 'deserving' a 'Home' final at the Cattery. Of course they would get the next final at the Cattery but I like the karma of them travelling to Perth. Could they go out in straight sets yet again!?

  28. You need to not criticise people who look at things differently than you do. It could just as easily be said that the site has been infiltrated by people who want to put the boots into every club official and activity undertaken at MFC. Rest assured everyone who posts on here is hugely disappointed.

  29. Montagna summed it up. “One of the things I’m most disappointed about with Melbourne over the last six weeks, we understand the year’s been a write off, there’s been a lot of injuries, they’ve been really disappointing, but the way they’re finishing off this season for me is a sign of a club that they just still don’t get it,” Montagna said on his Triple M's Dead Set Legends. “They are still a bit naive, because in this game of footy you need to continually strive for excellent and continually improve week… the competition is so hard and so tough, you need to keep improving and getting better. "I think it looks like to me, this Melbourne team think ‘you know what, this season’s done and dusted, let’s get to the finish line, we’ll be right next year. We’ll just get to pre-season, we’ll get our players back, we’ll be fit and healthy, and we’ll be ok,’ and that just doesn’t cut it at AFL level, it doesn’t happen that way."

  35. What's the use of sacking him mid season. Sack him now and give the new guy the off season and pre season to remake this shambles of a team.

  36. Selfish, really? I must be watching a different game. Our leading tackler and contested ball winner for a few seasons now, the guy who wins us the ball more than any other and always tries to distribute it quickly to teammates in a better position. How much better would we be if we had a couple of class outside players for Oliver to feed the ball to? But we don’t, so I wish he were more selfish. I wish he held on to the pill longer instead of giving it off so fast. I wish he backed himself more and used his power and acceleration out of stoppages. I wish he lifted, rather than lowered, his eyes in congestion more, and used his disposal in a more incisive and direct way, with more metres gained. He tried a couple of spearing kicks into the corridor last night that didn’t come off and got down on himself - I hope the coaches would encourage more of that. Take risks, back yourself. Be arrogant with the ball. Aspire to the level of impact and ball use that Martin and Bontempelli so often display. Oliver is a special player for us already but is yet to reach his full potential.

  38. Damning for the onfield leadership. Jones should have stepped and laid down the law. Instead he walks away as if he don’t care. Nothing will change until he retires or forced out.

  40. I have joked for years following this mob is like having a relationship breakdown... They continually break your heart in new & heartbreaking ways then promise you it will be okay so you take them back for them only to disappoint you all over again. It's like for 6 weeks of 2018 it all was all looking up & could finally see an exciting future only for them to rip your heart out once & for all and there seems no way you can get back on this merry-go-round. I need a break once again from this club.
