  1. Or she may stay with her, we just don't know.

  2. I'd get him as a supporting act to react to umpiring decisions in the box and discuss missed frees during press conferences.

  3. Well that just took a turn. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but Nev probably has better prospects than what you've suggested.

  4. We needed a backup for Max. And, after watching WCE win their way to a premiership with two ruckman and the expectation was that the rule changes would favour ruckmen, I reckon we decided to get another. Other clubs followed and found another ruckman in the rookie or post season sup draft. As the season progressed and the rule changes had a different impact than expected, playing two ruckmen isn't always viable. Even WCE have played with one in recent months (except last week). If we didn't get another ruckman DL would be screaming about it. Preuss may need to find a few more strings to his bow to get a regular gig.

  5. This post represents everything wrong with the faux selection committee on Demonland. Saying “let’s see how this plays out”, immediately *after* drawing a (negative) conclusion. By the way I’m assuming letting see how it plays out involves crowing about it if we lose and a big apologetic sob story about how you were wrong if we win.

  6. I feel Frost's clangers get commented on too much without mention of his positives. He's tall, fast, strong, quite aggressive at the ball, bold (I'm sure with support he can continue to refine his distribution), has a long kick, tackles well. I worry about Lever staying injury free for long periods. Hoping he'll be good for us. Strange post though, Frost and Hore play different positions.

  7. Good suggestion. I feel like it’s about time he is scrutinised, seems like he always flys under the radar...

  8. In fairness we spent that long without playing finals and appointed Neeld. Glass houses.

  9. Someone else - both are too valuable to the Dees to relegate down. There are others that better fit that bill.

  10. Hore or Frost ? IMO both have had a good season so far and can hold their heads up high. There is room for the two. Marty can play deep and Hback and has the smarts can hold his own on smalls and talls. Frosty is an underrated player with speed and his skills are good at times. However sometimes he over uses the ball. With many of our better players coming back from injury soon enough there is room for Marty and Frosty. They have worked hard for their spots.

  12. Scott has done a wonderful job and will get a senior role either as coach or football manager. The bigger question for North is whether it takes that last chance and relocates to Tasmania. Eight home games in Tasmania (the Hobart v Launceston issue is a problem) and five at the Docklands. Means the Melbourne followers would get around 10-12 chances to see them. AFL pump money into them along with a mega training facility courtesy of the Federal and Tasmanian State governments. This would be ready in say three years at which time the club would move all its admin etc to Tasmania. The deal is there to be had and the only people who would complain is Hawthorn and well... who cares about them !!

  14. We could actually keep both. One would start on the bench and come on for backline rotations. Oscar likely forced out by May and Lever. Both Wagners out. Petty may force Frost out longer term, but Frost is better in the immediate future. Below is how I'd picture the backline and bench looking in an ideal injury and form situation. FB: Jetta May Hore HB: Hibberd Lever Salem Bench: Back (Frost) Mid Mid Fwd

  18. I applaud your creativity in finding a way to use an overwhelmingly positive thread about another player to pot Petracca for no reason. Well done ? ?

  19. Agree Frost, despite some clangers has been great and is just about a lock for best 22 Hore has shown plenty of promise also and will remain in contention with a best 22 team OMac is holding his spot well now, but probably is out for May in a best 22 scenario and Lever pushes out Wagner with Jetta and Salem making the 6

  20. Nether should miss out. Wagners, and Oscar should make room.

  21. Unless they have deep pockets and splash the cash at him (which I don't think anyone thinks they do), I wouldn't have thought that moving to North to become their football manager would be very attractive to Josh, compared to what he is working with at the MFC. After spending so much time rebuilding a club I would have thought he would be keen to stick around for some success, rather than jump back in with another basket case. Unless he is offered big cash the CEOs position or a lesser role with a pathway to becoming the next CEO somewhere (cross-code perhaps even), I would think Josh's best move would be to stay with the MFC. Whatever the case may be, I hope we keep him for a while, because he seems like a pretty bloody good operator.

  23. I thought the opposite. They’re obviously cactus this year and in the early stages of a rebuild. This means the club can start looking for its new coach and planning around that well in advance, Scott can plan his own future, and both parties get to avoid all the wild speculation and pressure that comes with bottom 4 territory. If it causes a bit of turbulence in a season that is already dead in the water anyway, so what?

  24. Hence my first line - 'we needed a backup for Max'. Another ruckman had to be at the top of our recruiting list last year and we did well with Preuss.

  25. A long time supporter/backer of North once told me " North cannot afford to bottom out". That has shaped their recruiting policy for the past 15 years at least. Better to finish mid table than the bottom, because the small supporter base would evaporate. The recruiting response to that is to bring in the likes of Tyson, Polec, Pittard in the hope it can keep them in that mid range. They only get mid range picks at the draft and never some real top end talent. In other words, they are never recruiting and managing their list with the aim of winning a Premiership. Scott leaving will do nothing for their situation.

  26. May need to take the red and blue tinted glasses off, folks. Daniher lasted much longer, with absolutely disastrous, pathetic performances in 1999, 2001 and 2003. Not to mention: A huge choke and breakdown in 2004 after being 1st after 18 rounds, losing our last 5 games including an Elimination Final against 8th-placed Essendon. Losing 7 games in a row in 2005 after being 2nd after Queen's Birthday, and scraping into finals before getting belted by 70 points in the Elim. Starting 2006 at 0-3, losing to bottom placed Carlton twice (!), gifting them 2 out of their 3 wins for the season, and also gifting Freo their first ever finals win. Topping it off with a lovely 0-9 start to 2007 after going into the season as Victoria's perceived "only hope" to bring the flag back to Melbourne. It was the quintessential Melbourne way to disappoint everyone after being hyped up. Absolutely loved Daniher and what he brought to the club, but, arguably, keeping him on for as long as we did arguably fed into our cultural downfall towards the end of the decade and start of the 2010s. We were extremely top-heavy in the age bracket, recruited TERRIBLY at the draft table, and looked borderland wooden-spoon worthy for large chunks of seasons across his tenure. We were lucky not to finish last in 2003 (the Bulldogs finished last and beat us, recording 1 of their 3 wins for the year, and we only beat Carlton by a goal). Love or hate Scott, he managed to get a pretty average squad to a couple of Prelims, and while they never looked likely to win a flag, they did net some huge scalps during his time, never truly bottomed out, and were consistently solid for the first 75% of his coaching career. Granted it fell apart in the second half of 2016 after being 1st for most of the first half, but his tenure still stands as one of the more successful and consistent post-Pagan/Carey years.

  27. I do wounder if Eddie gets his way and Weid wants to follow in the family tradition at the Pies, if something like Collingwoods first round pick and Melbourne's second round one would get Sideshow Bob to the Demons?

  29. I'm coming from a different angle Preuss as a forward target upsets the opposition defence, supporting Max is a bonus Need the big lug to draw attention away from TMac and allow mid sized forwards to roam. Also lets small forwards feed off While Tim Smith has been ok at the contest he just doesn't quite give same presence for me

  30. I think the theory of don’t play the extra tall because of weather is old school. Unless it is absolutely pelting down for the whole game, ground conditions are usually pretty good these days, dries up quickly & new footys used every score kicked. I would almost have the oppostie view, if it is wet that means more stoppages, more ball ups, throw ins, more contact for Gawn. He’d tire a hell of a lot with the extra stoppages, Preuss’ big body in a slog against Mumford isn’t a bad idea, will it happen probably not

  35. He is learning - overuse of the ball was a problem, now it is less frequent and there is also a newer touch of finishing the possession off well. Frost, with a stronger backline team, will be awesome. So will Hore.

  36. Nah I want a fresh Tasmanian team, they would be most peoples affectionate 2nd team we all want to see succeed and rooting for the Roos is just too unpalatable. My masterplan for the comp includes 20 teams, 19 round season, 10 team finals series and so North moving to Tassie disrupts that. Fresh Tassie team and another team somewhere else please.

  37. I'll preface this by saying i would not be looking to release either right now but given the OP's question... Hore by a fair way at this point. This is not a blight on Frosty either who is having a reasonably good year so far, albeit still the occasional brain fade. Frosty with 78 games no longer a rookie. To be playing at the level Hore is already playing at, as a rookie with only 7 matches behind him, is potential / budding champion material and puts Hore a notch or two above Frosty for mine. FWIW this also shows out statistically. In the weighted comparative averages i keep, Hore is presently ranked 5th overall and Frosty 17th. Defenders might make the top 5 once every three to four weeks or a well rounded veteran might make the top 5 or 10 over an entire season. But for a rookie defender to be sitting that high is astonishing. Frosty's weighted score of 2.172 so far this season is also 5% higher than his 2018 average of 2.078 so not too shabby. Hore currently sitting on 2.982 To put that in some perspective the highest ranked defender for the entire 2018 season was Lewis at 3.626 who is presently sitting on 2.225

  40. With North and probably Carlton and Saints looking for a new coach they may be looking in our direction, specifically Rawlings or Jennings. While I'm very keen to see changes amongst our [censored] Coaches, they aren't two guys I would like us to lose. North is also likely to be looking for a new Football manager so I guess they will have Mahoney on their list of possible candidates. This is the problems with North going early on their plans, it can easily be disruptive to other clubs , in particular Saints and Carlton. Don't like what Scott and North has done from any perspective. Edit: the {censored} word was [censored] for 'Assistant' - very finally tuned censor?

  41. Agree with you LH - particularly about adding strings to his bow - a full tank would be a good start. Preuss would have known the score when he crossed - he couldn’t get a gig at North, so no reason to expect he’d get one at the club with the best ruckman in the league - unless circumstances warranted it, or unless Max was injured.

  43. Regards Brad coaching at AFL level again, I think he probably could and very well might one day. When you look at North's failures it's more about list management than coaching derived and there is only so much responsibility that can be leveled at the coach for list management, probably also aided by the fact that North were not handed any freebies recruiting wise by the AFL and without the ability to land big name players like the power clubs and the interstate teams. I'd fully expect that Brad sits it out from senior coaching of any form for 12-18 months though due to the personal toll that being a senior coach must have on their life.

  44. I happen to think he is a very good coach. as we have had to endure the 17 consecutive losses from the Kangas mostly from his coaching I have thought his irganized he team was and hard to stop momentum when they played well. Really they ate up teams like our 2010 on versions till 2018 when we finally had too much ability and a game plan! Its as much as the Clubs admin and recruiting that this situation is reached. No superstars topping up a good average list since the four oldies were discarded. Maybe Brad should have gone with them! Would the Dees be any better under BRAD than Goody? I tend to think YES because he would have lost patience with the skill errors and lack of team acts plus our mental fragility would be a bit more bruised I think. I also think that the Kangas would be a whole lot more exciting with Goody as Coach than under Brad. Dream on Maybe he could be one of our Assistants next season handling the mids!!! Or forwards!! Or defence!!! Scott will no doubt gat another gig not sure it ircwill be as Senior Coach though. As I Live in BrisaVegas ( but never ever considered switching to Lions even in their 3 peat heroics) Brad And Chris would be night hand players fit the Dees I can say. Brad for his decade at Roos 7.5/10.!!!

  46. He got as far as he did by trying desperately not to bottom out, and succeeded at that. Unfortunately that strategy doesn't work these days and when you find yourself in the lower rungs on the ladder you really need to bottom out to get what's needed to go back up. He should've called it a rebuild when the likes of Harvey were pushed out the door. The last 3 years could've been developmental, rather than treading water. At the end of the day, they haven't been able to pick up elite talent via the draft, and have simply topped up with role players. I don't think we'll see him as a senior coach again.

  49. We have to win at least 2 of the next 3 to have any chance ... we can't be 4 & 8 by the time the bye comes around. 5 & 7 (or better) and we're a chance. Getting our good players back will help but if Gawn, Brayshaw, Oliver, Hunt, Harmes, Petracca, T-Mac, Jones, Salem & maybe Frost, Garlett & Hore can all produce their best in all the upcoming games, we can beat any team. It's a big ask but that's the standard required.
