  1. It's called "telepathic concussion" and occurs when thousands of supporters all slam their forehead into their fist at the same time.

  2. I actually saw it differently. Yes he makes mistakes, but I thought he did his job. He was on Buddy and forced him up the ground to get most of his possessions. He has been far better than Oscar this season and you can't drop every key back we have, until the better blokes are ready. ATM I see Frost still in the side, ahead of Oscar, when May and Lever are back.

  4. I am so proud of the boys tonight. I've almost got a tear in my eye. We've been smashed from pillar to post these last three weeks, some of it warranted, some of it over the top, and when the Swans got 20 odd points up you could argue that we were in big, big trouble. But we didn't panic. We went back to playing the Melbourne way. We hassled. We tackled. And by God we took our chances. This was a modern Melbourne performance and you could almost sense, when we got up, that we weren't going to give it up. The one person I want to single out is Nathan Jones. Under the pump from all and sundry, he steps up to kick three crucial, captain's goals to help us win this game of footy. How bloody good is it? Right the man off at your peril. I also thought Marty Hore, another to cop it on here, really stood up down back, particularly early. Also to Frosty who did a pretty good job on Buddy! But stuff it. How good is it, everyone? I love this club. We have won this game when, with the injuries and the history against the Swans, we had no right to win it. As I said earlier, it's shades of the '98 game over in Perth. Kudos to the coaches, players and everyone else involved for lifting and keeping our season well and truly alive. And I'm proud that I never lost the faith! DEMONS!

  5. Bruce has become a bit of a caricature of himself over a number of years now. My special lady friend and I were discussing last night how great it would be if Fox Footy could implement a button where all you get to hear are the effects mics (umps, whistles, crowd noise, players swearing etc). That commentary team last night were desperate for Sydney to get up... PS. Lingy can [censored] right off!

  6. He barely made it off the ground and once he did he was on all 4. Nothing to gain from exaggerating his pain when the opportunity for a free was well and truly gone. He is a tough kid. If he was on all 4 in pain then I believe that he was really hurt.

  7. I liked Spargo's game. He sets up goals with good disposal. Same as in the finals last year. I'd keep him in.

  8. They are in the side right now because we have nothing else. They are depth yes. Give credit where credit is due. They were good tonight.

  9. I might be in the minority but I find Bruce Mcaveney extremely annoying to listen to when watching the game. He seems to have no grasp of what is happening, fawns over well known players whether they are playing well or not and then distracts from what is actually taking place. Keen to hear others views re Bruce.

  10. As soon as i saw him sort out Aliir, i liked him. Then Scoring two very good goals, what a beast! Without him standing up to and standing over Aliir, I feel we would have most likely lost this game to Sydney's physical mind games; They have been beating us and many with this tactic for years. I was overjoyed seeing him react aggressively to Aliir's attemp to boss our players. My god we need that. We have mostly passive type players compared to Sydney's and Viney can't be everywhere at once. Hopefully his shoulder will be alright.

  11. I’d say get rid of him and replace him with someone fresh, but I’m afraid “someone fresh” would be another moronic oaf, fresh out of the boys club, with no experience or even a basic grasp of the English language. That seems to be the hiring criteria for both the major broadcasters. I reckon our sport has a big problem with the quality of its commentators.

  12. Frost played a smart defensive game. Buddy is like Dusty. If they beat you to win the ball, you are better off keeping space and forcing them to their opposite side. They have too much core strength to go at them front on and try to tackle them face on. Frost kept space and did this time and time again. One moment stood out in particular in the third. On the broadcast wing, Buddy beat Frost for the ball. Frost kept his distance and forced Buddy onto his right. It was an important moment because the Swans had 2 players streaming forward but Buddy couldn't get a clear kick to them. Frost has the better of Buddy, and Buddy knows it.

  14. One of the things I like about the likes of Davis and Matthew Pavlich is that as well as being insightful, they are softly spoken. That means even if their message starts getting boring, you can just mentally tune them out. No such luck with Cameron Ling shouting his inane comments in to the mic.

  15. To be honest I prefer Roaming Brian, where he is intentionally being a tool for a bit of light hearted entertainment, to Commentary Brian, where his toolery interferes with the actual call.

  18. You obviously didn't read my post either or you would have read this " Yes he makes mistakes, but I thought he did his job." You disagree with that, fine. Where is the weird blind faith, when I say he makes mistakes. Have I likened Frost to Rance? I am not saying he is great. I am just acknowledging that I thought he did his job last night. If you think Frost should not be ever acknowledged for some good play, that is fine, go ahead and laugh at everyone who thought he was reasonable last night. Personally I lol out at posters who can't see a player do anything right because they dislike them.

  19. Hindsight or not, Preuss should have been our starting 22 from round 1. I was wanting it to happen and others were too. The way he was deployed last night is exactly what we need, it's just annoying that it's taken until round 4. Goodwin played him deep on Aliir and it worked a treat. Aliir murdered us as an intercept player last time we played the Swans at the G. Everyone knows we're sketchy with our skills, our entries are not always clean and we have players who have a tendency to rush their kicks. This is why playing a monster deep in the forward-line is important for a team like us. He drags away an important oppo defender, it allows for T-mac to get up the ground and it completely straightens us up. As long as our mids continue to assess what's ahead, it gives us so many more options compared to playing Weid and T-Mac inside 50. It's a huge change. ANB out of the side was also a very welcome change. He was literally just creating more congestion when he was playing. Usually doing nothing when around the ball and allowing his opponent to be a get out option for when the oppo were winning the ball. Spargo is a very smart player with ball in hand even if he's not overly quick. He usually always weighs up his options and makes smart choices with disposal. He stays. Trac is improving every game now. Just needs to stay as clean as possible. If Hunt continues to take his chances, hit the scoreboard and use the ball in a smart way, he clearly stays because his speed and chase down ability is needed. I think the addition of Garlett in this kind of a set-up on a big ground like the G could really help too. If he chases and pressures at Casey this weekend, I think we play him against the Saints. Forward-line becomes much more dynamic and unpredictable due to short hit up leads from talls like Weed or T-Mac, going long to a Preuss contest, giving Petracca or Melksham a one-on-one chance (both strong in the air) or if the ball hits the ground we have speed in Hunt, Garlett and Spargo to really pressure. I'd like to mention that Petracca's willingness to chase and harass the opposition inside 50 was a highlight last night. He worked extremely hard off the ball. Whatever happens, the forward line must stay the same for a while. Backline clearly needs to change. Oscar. Frost. Happy to play the Saints without Oscar this week. Coincedence that we looked so much better off when he wasn't on the ground?

  20. Josh had a really good game tonight. Corey was quiet but strong when he was involved. I have noticed the Febey effect. That is sometimes i think they are travelling really well because I can't tell them apart.

  21. Meanwhile, by all reports, Austin Bradtke is motoring along satisfactorily, playing in the ruck for the Dandenong Stingrays. Nothing spectacular but he's getting hitouts and possessions and last week kicked a goal in the team's drawn game against the Geelong Falcons.

  22. I think he is past it. His constant craving for affirmation makes my brain bleed. isn't it didn't he don't they wouldn't he And to think he is often asking Brian Taylor (that vacuous [censored] that Danny Hughes used to wind up) for affirmation! GHM Bruce & Brian are the worst commentators IMO

  25. I've thought that Jack Viney's impact on games this season to date had been pretty low by his standards, but thought that his game last night indicated he is starting to get back the sort of form that will make our midfeild dangerous. He laid 9 tackles last night and many of them we big hard crunching ones that had a real impact. He also started to win some good clearances and that goal he kicked in the second quarter was very timely. Whilst Jack had a good impact on the two finals we won last year, I've felt that we haven't really seen him at his most damaging best since mid 2017 in that game against West Coast where he almost single handedly carried our midfeild to help deliver us an unlikely victory, to some extent to his detriment, because I think he was also playing injured at the time and has struggled to reach that level since.

  26. Jumped over to the north board.. "Yeah, it’s going to [censored] me not having him around". "he’s killing it" "It’s a ****en joke we didn’t play him". "2 goals Preuss. **** me dead. We get Campbell. It's a cruel life" "Preuss dominating. Can see why we got rid of him". "Trading a project depth ruckman that had not been an absolute failure at the small opportunity at AFL level for a very mediocre peaked slow depth midfielder who had fallen out of favour..." (your mate doing wonders here @olisik.....) "Don't worry lads...we have Dom Tyson". "Gets his chance, takes it. Indictment on Brads safe selection policy. Preuss is exactly what we need right now".

  27. Good second half. Some positives. I think the SCG masked much of our questionable positioning that has been on show at the G. Hardly anything to jump up in the air about. Will all come undone if we can't put away St Kilda at the G.

  29. I’m reserving judgement on Preuss the forward. One goal was plucked out of his arse on the boundary from the ruck, the other a long kick that a competent defence would have touched. Don’t get me wrong, quite happy to take two goals and enjoyed his physical play, just not quite ready to crow yet.

  31. Loved Hunts two games up forward. Doesn’t get a heap of it, but he’s so damaging with his pressure and hits the scoreboard. Ticks all the boxes needed for the small/medium forward type player. He and Petracca really stood up tonight.

  34. Loved his agression in all this. He will make defenders think twice sitting in the hole. Felt like he freed up Tom McDonald also which was a huge positive for me.

  35. He is an exceptionally smart footballer. His tackling for a big guy is also excellent. He is still very raw and needs time. He sometimes mistimes contests and his work in the air is hit and miss. But he is a beautiful kick and I have every confidence he’ll be a good player. We need to be patient. He is a baby in KP terms and has played less than 50 games.

  38. Wouldn't mind seeing a front view of the hit Jones laid on Oliver, miles off the ball. Oliver was kneeling in pain on the field and when he went off. Commentators dismissed it as he just being winded. Looked more than being winded - there must have been a backhanded, clenched fist or elbow. Jones is a repeat offender and deserves to be cited.

  39. First time we have one the contested possession count this year. Hopefully this is the kick start we need. I was posting a little bit on here during the 1st half, at half time i decided to put my phone down and actually just watch the game with no distractions . Looks like i wont be posting on game day threads anymore.

  40. While they might have been forced into these in some ways, I really hope the coaches keep doing the following: - a one out deep tall forward, who doesn't go much further than 50 out even when we are defending. Helps straighten us up. - give Frost an assignment, he plays much better 1 on 1 then in a zone. Put him on the forward most likely to roam. Leave omac playing the zone as the deepest tall defender, with hore, Hibberd etc doing the same zone. - make sure Viney starts with aggression, it really rubbed off on a number of others, weids tackles were impressive but I think he (and others) need someone to inspire them.

  41. I’m currently 20,000 feet over the NT on a flight to Singapore. My plane was delayed an hour and thankfully that meant I got to see the final quarter. I can’t wipe the smile off my face. We are capable. We are hungry. We can play our game. Each week will be a challenge until we regain some key personnel. We are going to have to fight like Demons every week. That should be the team mantra. Up the Dees!

  42. Isn't it great to go into the weekend with the job done! A terrific performance, right across the board. We brought energy, application, effort and were highly motivated. Our out-of-form players stepped it up and we just willed ourselves across the line. We were not going to get beaten tonight. Season back on track - away from home, under seige and we get it done. Not so long ago we were incapable of bouncing back like we did tonight. The talent is there. Tackling and pressure first rate, kicking to position very good and all of our players contributed. We bring that type of game on a regular basis and we will win more games than we lose this season. One win can change everything - confidence & belief returns thus winning against any team is possible. Anywhere, anytime.
