  1. 2037 is going to be a great year for the Demons.

  2. A class act. Hard to measure Daisy's contribution to the Club but it has been huge. Has brought so much not only to Women's footy but the whole club. Total respect from all. Now a proud Mum with two little Demons. She gets everything right. A girl and a boy. Perfect.

  3. Think you are a little off the money here. Harmes is no one game/season wounder. I've been watching the MFC rebuild over the last decade and the signs have been there for Harmes from the beginning. He showed glimpses of what he can do in that breakout win against the Hawks in and others in 2016 and has been steadily building his hard agressive game style ever since. He set a new standard for himself in 2018 and it will be interesting to see if he can maintain that level - I'm quite confident he will, but even if his form drops off a bit, I think he will still be a fairly solid contributor. I think what we are seeing with Harmes is something which is common to quite a few of his contemporaries in the red and blue at the moment, is that the years of football and phyisical development they have done to date are starting to pay dividends as they reach a point of physical and mental maturity together. Watching these guys like Harmes, ANB, Guys, Clarry, Track, Viney, Oscar, Freitch and Co impose themselves upon the competition is a tantalizing prospect.

  4. I respectfully disagree. From day one he showed he had the guts and determination, and also showed flashes of what he could become.had However, he lacked the consistency and polish. He was rough around the edges. Last seasons efforts showed to me that he has what it takes and the class to be something special. He developed consistency and confidence to take the game on, taking himself from a fringe player at best to a team player with the individual skills to influence games.

  5. I met one a few weeks ago for a business venture and asked point blank if he had signed up as an MFC member and he said no. I told him our business interests would only progress if he signed up. He laughed and I asked why he was laughing and that I was serious.

  6. Harmes is pretty much living all our dreams. Grew up a passionate Melbourne supporter, won the ‘most determined’ award in under age comp, rookie listed to us, improved each year and last season becomes a key member of the team with 3rd placing in the B & F. Just needs the flag now to complete the fairytale

  7. Rjay is too polite to say your point is silly. I'm not. Although, naturally, you're welcome to it. Averaging 25 disposals per match for his last 9 games and kicking 7 goals while nullifying some of the best players in the game is enough of a sample size to say Harmes is the real deal as long as injury doesn't raise its head, or his application drops. I don't see the latter happening. Clearly, the club was also happy with his output, as a top 3 placing in the B&F for a prelim team attests. He's fast, aggressive, and he's strong bodied. He's also improved his foot-skills.

  8. I was there yesterday and was mighty impressed with the Dees. Some great linkup work at times resulting in 5-6 chains of possessions and some classy finishing in front of goals. Stood up out of my chair whenever Newman went near it and Cordner completely blanketed Sabrina. North a big game this weekend but reckon our girls can do it after today. Great atmosphere at my local footy club (Wilston Grange) too. Lions AFLW traditionally play miles away on the outskirts of Brisbane so it was great to not only have a game in inner Brisbane but one against the Dees made it even more special. Copped it from my mates at the club walking around in a Dees jersey but the comments seem to stop in the second quarter. Wilston Grange is Oskar Baker's former club as well so another link to the Dees.

  9. It's about time the club was actively trying to convert our MCC brethren using the players. More of this please MFC.

  11. [censored] me some people will be able to complain about anything the club does. It probably took some time for the scans to confirm it to be an ACL. Just like Jake Lever, whose prognosis was in limbo for a good day or two after he did his. Yes, Jake Lever, one of our highest paid players who did it in A REAL GAME. Let's be honest if they'd confirmed the news yesterday you'd be whinging about the club detracting attention away from the AFLW game. Had they done it straight away on Friday and it proved not to be an ACL then you'd be criticizing them for jumping the gun! As for the young fella, shocking luck! But he'll be like a new recruit in 2020. Best wishes to him!

  14. A couple of years ago, I had the pleasure of meeting (or fanboy ambushing, call it what you will) Daisy at my workplace. She graciously signed a picture, made out to my then two year old twin girls. The picture has been stuck to our fridge ever since. The other week, I took the girls to their first ever game of footy - the AFLW game against the Filth at Vic Park. The previous night, I proudly presented them with their first MFC jumper and revved them up for a day on the terraces. As my heart burst with pride, they declared they we 'just like Daisy' and proceeded to start training immediately in the living room. What a day we had watching the girls beat the old enemy on their own infamous, stinking turf! It worked on another layer too as my Pies loving father used to take me there as a kid before and after I 'Deefected', and he joined us, much to his spiritual chagrin. Poor grandpa. Anyway, the only issue I had was the girls craning their necks, frantically trying to find Daisy. I explained that Daisy wasn't playing because she was close to having twins, just like them, but this excuse didn't wash and I had to quickly placate them with popcorn and hot chips. They expected Daisy to have played yesterday too! I expect them to debut in 2034 at CHF/CHB, no pressure. How good is it that my little ones have such an awesome role model and a whole generation of girls can now look up to heroes just like them. Daisy is a massive asset to the MFC and AFL in all areas and she just bloody rocks. Congratulations to Daisy and her partner and welcome to the wild and wonderful world of multiple parenting! 15. How the hell do you know who can & can’t afford it? I’ve just become a country MCC member & are finding it hard to pay just that. l live in East Gippsland on the land & are in the middle of a severe drought, in case you didn’t know. We have to buy feed & water for our cattle. I get to about 5 games a year, Its 650klm round trip to get to the game so it ends up quite an expensive day. Im not whinging but we all can’t afford the Footy club membership aswell

  16. "Is Wagner a human being at all? He contaminates everything he touches" - Nietzsche. Perhaps it wasn't either of our Wagners he was complaining about, though. More relevantly, Neitzsche also said "That which does not kill us makes us stronger". Even though it's now a cliche we've all heard before, knowing it was a phrase originally coined by Neitzsche, it seems appropriate to include it here. Good luck to the young fella.

  17. Probably had scans either Sat or today. Club would've waited until he saw the surgeon today to get full picture. Can you imagine how it would look if they came out with full ACL reco news on Friday and the scans showed different? I'm only speculating, but perhaps Nietschke requested it not be made public until he had recieved all the info and spoken with the club. I personally don't have a pressing need to know the moment things like this happen. Having said that, had it been Oliver or Gawn they probably would've fast tracked the process and come out earlier.

  18. Jacobs is more of a negating midfielder where he is more about blanketing the output of the opposition player. I felt that the games that Harmes played, were significant because not only did he negate the output of the player he was tagging but he more often than not racked up good stats and forced those players to consider his output. By playing this role, Harmes has actually been dragged into the game and into the play and beating his opposition in the process

  19. Harmesy really came of age last season, however, for me I love the fact that he is a natural footballer/ball winner who is capable of breaking the lines & kicking some goals. Barring injury, 2019 shouldn't be any different with experience the big winner. Go Nut.

  20. Great win on the road for the girls. L Pearce should earn coaches votes 3 weeks in a row. Loved Hanks and Newman's work. As others have commented, Paxman and Cordner (who clearly stopped Sabrina) were dominant. One mention of Katherine Smith who I thought played her best game on Sunday including a nice snap. She has been slowly building and is another promising youngster to complement Mithen, Kemp, Hanks, Zanker, Lampard, Brancatisano and others.

  21. Horrible luck for the kid. It would be really tough going through that before you’ve even played a game and gotten into everything properly. Here’s wishing him a speedy and solid long term recovery.

  22. Bummer, he looked ready made enough to make an impact at Casey. The silver lining for him is he’s got a long time until next season and maybe the extra rehab and sidelines time can be used to work on his strength and some extra coaching time. For the team: we’re now have 2 list spots open, do we add a player before the March deadline?

  23. I haven’t watched other games but the standard of footy in ours has certainly improved over the past couple of seasons. Lots of times I found myself saying ‘good kick’, ‘nice mark’ or ‘great hands’. That lace out pass by Hanks to hit a moving Cat Phillips that set up Newman for her running goal was a fantastic piece of play. No way they pull that off in the opening season Think we have covered the loss of Daisy fairly well. Our mids have been generally on top during the 3 games so far. Thank god neither of the expansion teams got Paxman, she is so bloody good. I thought losing the ruckman Hoare to Geelong would hurt but Pearce has really improved hasn’t she. Probably in the top 3 or 4 B & F voting at the moment. And I must admit I have never really rated Mel Hickey who also went to Geelong. She obviously works hard on her game but has the coordination and footy IQ of a robot. I’d have Jakobsson and Downie over her any day. Next week V North could be the match of the year. I had thought it a certain loss but we are playing some fantastic footy and we will test them. Also we have played 3 games on the trot in windy conditions and seem to be playing it quite well. Good chance to be the same at Casey next week Go Melbourne!

  25. Serious question. Has the AFL created a mother/daughter or mother/son rule? If so, what are the requirements (apart from the mother actually having a son or daughter, or, in this case, both)? And congratulations to Daisy and her suddenly bigger family.

  26. How many players can come into the side as a 21yo and 18 games of senior footy play finals and take the game by the scruff of the neck like the Weid did. He took Geelong to the cleaners and was almost as good the next game against the Hawks. Two sides we have struggled to beat since the days. Finals games are invaluable and for the Weid he flourished. IMO l have no hesitation to back him in without a doubt. Having a good side will help him as he will have some very good talent to support. him.

  28. What a horrific blow to any young kid. A real kick in the guts Still, it will give him an extra year in the system to get stronger and wiser and perhaps hungrier - Tracc has turned out more than OK. PS. does anyone know how it happened? Fall? Twist? Poor surface?

  30. Terrible news. Absolutely devastated for Aaron. After all the excitment of being drafted and training with the boys with the possibility of some JLT appearances, I'm sure its a tough blow for the kid. Fingers crossed on his recovery.

  32. Nothing exciting. I tried to jazz up the thread with a potentially controversial/leading line of thought. You answered with the most common-sense straight-forward answer. Non-sensational doesn't garner clicks = go back to internet media school. That is all.

  33. Congratulations, Daisy! Well done! Now, no more slacking off! You are expected back in full training by Thursday, and line up with the team next weekend! 36. Fantastic news! Great to see mum and bubs healthy. ...Maybe Daisy will swap the red and grey swaddling colours to red and blue soon. Then again, the club has probably already sent her baby dee jumpers with # 6 on the back with their names or with 'mummy'.

  39. I’m currently sitting in an over water villa in the Maldives on my honeymoon drinking Tigers. Life is good. My wife has expressly banned me from: 1. reading work emails; 2. drinking to many Tiger beers; and 3. reading Demonland. BUT - I just saw the Melksham contract extension news on Instagram and simply had to get on Demonland. And drink more Tigers. I love this bloke. I have made plenty of completely stupid predictions over the years, but not in relation to this guy - I knew he was going to be a great pick up. He was our Bernie trade of that year, much like his best mate Hibberd was a year later. I’m absolutely stoked that he’s going to be roaming around our forward 50 for many years to come. This club is just unreal these days!

  40. The good thing with Sam is that he actually performed really well in the finals, so he knows now that he can do it. If he had played poorly and we had just scraped through it would be very different.
