The idea of losing 47 goals with Hogan going is obviously a pretty abstract one. The key question is not the number of goals but the number of wins. I hope we avoid revising history, particularly in light of Hogan's partying presence on social media. The fact is Hogan was a terrific player for the demons and was a key element of our successful 2017 and 2018 seasons. We will miss way more than 47 goals - his gut running to provide an outlet pass from the back line for one thing. The fact that he took the best defender another. It is easy to forget Weid was dropped twice (i think, or at least once) and could not break into the side until near the end of the year. Also easy to forget he has only played 20 games. That said i am super confident Weid will take the next step and be a key player for us this year. He brings different things to the table, one of which is think he is better as bringing the ball to the ground than Hoges as he really launches at packs, whereas Hogan seems to prefer wrestling on on one. This suits our style of chaos balls inside 50 i reckon as it brings our small to medium size forwards into play. His height is also a worry for opposition coaches, hard to match up on. And he is better kick for goals than Hogan - and importantly a much longer kick which increases the danger zone for opposition defensive units.

On the Franklin comparison: Hawthorn 2013 Franklin kicks 60 goals club 414 goals -2014 No Franklin club kicks 418 = minus Franklin's 60 but +4 goals! Sydney 2013 no Franklin 363 goals add Franklin 79 goals for 2014 club drops to 351 for the season. = add Franklins 79 but club -12 We are not minus 47 goals!

Weid is flying so far under the radar he’s not even listed in any Coleman Medal market. I don’t believe he will win it, just curious to see what one of our two main tall forwards was showing. A two goal per game average is doable for the Weid, exciting times ahead, especially with the new rules in place. Get the ball in quick from the centre and watch T Mac and Weid showcase their great marking abilities.

Ray, a few things: 1. I think you are misinterpreting what I am try to say with the statement that most teams would be envious of our defense even without Lever and May. By most I meaning 'the majority', not all teams. I think it's fair to say that our back six defensive personal (less the two mentioned) is better than pretty much all the teams that finished below us, with perhaps the exception of Essendon and perhaps Geelong but that's probably canceled by us having a better defense than a few of the teams that finished above us like Hawthorn and Collingwood. Is it really reasonable to make an assessment of our backline based on that one game Vs WC in the prelim? On a similar basis it could be stated that we are a 100 point better side without Lever based on the respective Hawthorn games last year. The main point I was trying to make is that we had pretty decient backline depth last year and the guys that were left once Lever went down were still pretty solid options compared to what alot of other teams have thus why was making finals such a surprise. Of course adding Lever and May back into the mix gives us a pretty elite backline that hopefully takes us from a side that made the finals and then put on a pretty good show, to one that is setup to be a genuine premiership contender.

Improving our defence one goal per a half of footy, plus natural improvement from Weideman and our multitude of other goal-kickers renders this a reasonably easy achievement I would have thought. Just having Viney's ferocious tackling and attack on the footy around the stoppages for 22 rounds instead of 7 also improves the balance between scoring and defending. Yes, Hogan kicked 47 goals, but we won't be playing a man short. I see no issue.

Tend to agree with you, Chazz; there was some confusion that became more confusing amongst the confused supporters and no doubt, with the Club itself on Hogan's coming or going, for quite a few weeks with some very memorable media 'argy-bargy' and sensationalism in the very mix; this also contained the very exposing and somewhat contradictory statements from the inner sanctum of loud mouths and supporters. Loyalty to the Club was everything, in fact, and it collapsed as the nay-sayers suggested earlier, very sadly. Well, the cycle has turned with Hoges no longer at the Club, finding what he feels were greener pastures but we cannot despair, his game and the evolving game plan at the Dees were becoming less associable, less exacting and less effective. We now look to have a multi-pronged attack and better users of the ball. Let's all hope it can send us to heaven.

You think the club haven't been planning this for quite some time? The club would have contingency plans for all sorts of occurrences, injuries, loss of form, improved form etc. Maybe some supporters are scratching their heads but I really believe this has been in the planning for quite a while. Weid is only part of the solution, May is also. I believe that we will be a better side in 2019.

As the accidental perpetrators of 'coqnescent' may this latest addition to the linqua franca be perpetuated. We are much amused by the those grappling with it's possible meanings and the banter it aroused. To correct any erroneous perceptions out there in demonland, we may be rural and remote... Gerry has the dentures and the gentleman poster from Mansfield needs to beware of Brazilian Wandering Spiders, but cold packs and compression help apparently.

I think you will find the point being with Hogan gone, that some, myself included, are looking to see where the 47 goals could or would come from. With Weed playing more games, then naturally you would hope/expect that a bulk amount of those goals would come from him. From what I can see, the argument is wether or not Weid could provide the same output as what Hogan has. I think he might just struggle this year, so if he can kick 30 (for example), then we're going to be short of what Hogan would've brought us, so we need to find other avenues. The Buddy comparison is great, and thanks for bringing it up. Hawthorn needed to find different avenues to cover the loss of Franklin. They did it successfully, which is the point we are trying to discuss on here.

That defies logic! How does he take 47 goals with him? Are we playing with less players? If we are playing with a replacement player I presume they will help in the goal tally. Do Fremantle have as many forward entries that he enjoyed at Melbourne? It is ridiculous to say we are losing 47 goals. We are losing a player that kicked 47 goals but we may kick more without him. Does that mean he left goals behind? Just give up the notion that we are losing Hogan therefore we lose all those goals. Think of poor Hawthorn when Buddy left, think of the goals he took with him, oh wait a minute didn't they win a flag without him, how was that possible? Edit: 2013 Franklin kicked 60 goals for Hawthorn - without Franklin Hawthorn won the flag in 2014 & 2015

He needs to do it consistently now. He knows what he's capable of, and he should now have continuity in the seniors, so it should be a great case of planets aligning. But, until he shows it regularly, he will continue to go under the radar. Just took at the below post from Dee Zephyr (which was one post above yours)... I'm also in the camp that doesn't think he will win it, but surely as a key forward, and especially as he will be our number 2 KF (behind TMc), he should be in the market somewhere. That said, if he can start the year like he played in the finals series, he will be well on the radar after about Round 5 or 6.

I don't think that's what people are saying, Moonie. 47 goals is what he kicked for us in 2018, so by him leaving, then that's 47 goals we are losing. But just because he is taking 47 goals with him, doesn't necessarily mean that he will make use of all of them at his new destination.

So we are all assuming that Hogan will kick at least 47 goals for Freo in 2019? From what I've seen around the SM traps he'd be lucky to kick 4.7 A combination of Tmac and Weid with an occasional cameo by Gawn/Preuss will service us just fine. And the i50 ump whinge stat will drop near 100%. IMO the appearance of Lever, May and Kolo will also see less goals kicked against us.

Uncle, if you are going to say that there will be a league-wide increase in scoring of 5%, then all teams will be in the same boat. But it would then also be fair to presume that our current forwards should also see an increase in their goal kicking tally by the same amount. Given that we won't be kicking many bombs to a demanding Hogan, and are actually lowering our eyes more going forward, I think it's a fair expectation that TMc, Melksham, Petracca, et al will see their yearly totals surpass that 5% increase that you speak of. It's fact that we play better football when Hogan isn't in the team. We are less predictable going forward, and seem to hit the best target more often. Even though, as you say, Hogan is taking 47 goals with him to Freo, I would actually expect our scoring to increase anyway (even if there weren't any rule changes).

Tried Keto for several weeks (probably only the first 3 weeks were strict) [censored] me off. After the first few days, had an intermittent headache every damn day, for weeks on end, and CRAVED a biscuit or similar. But never felt "starving hungry", and dropped 7.5kg in the first 3 weeks, after only starting at 88kg Have since put on 2.5kg of what I lost, but boy oh boy have I eaten some schit.

He's one I'm really looking forward to watch progress, if he can get around the 30 goal mark and become a valuable link man whilst continuing the type of second efforts we saw in the Cats game he will be a great asset to the team. More than anything it sounds like he's got the confidence to step out and take this opportunity.

Considering all the flack about grammar on demonland, we can’t let numeracy errors pass. 47 plus 5% is not 65 (try just over 49). Either way, last year Weids already bettered Jesses 8 goals in 6 games against top 8 teams. I’m not as fussed about the 39 in 13 games against the rest (which includes 0 against Port). Weids won’t get as many goals out the back, but you don’t tend to see those types of goals against the good teams.

I think we will stop more goals in 2019.

Up to 33,226 today ( 21 Jan). From this point last year we added about 15K to end of Season. So we are looking at close to 50K at that rate.

40 goals is not beyond him, just hope he realises how good he can be.

Provided he performs to an acceptable level this year he will play in the one's otherwise he will be playing at Casey. I have followed the MFC since 1952 and I have seen great sides but the potential of these players exceeds the 1954-1964 teams although teams don't always play on potential. The 1953 team was a young team which had great potential and turned into the greatest era of the MFC hopefully this team will play with the more fire and passion and convert the potential to the ultimate success in the 2019 season and beyond.

He’s a player. You can be a flash in the pan and get on the end of a few every now and then but, that EF against Geelong, he showed he has all the tricks a great key forward needs to have. Strong marks. Crunching tackles. Repeat efforts. Well timed bumps (Dangerflog) Sweet kicking action. Etc. As long he stays fit and has great pre-season, I’m confident the Weid will be even more valuable than Hogan.

30-35 Goals but consistent effort and a steady mark of improvement from his past seasons is my prediction for Weid in 2019
