  1. Troy Broadbridge, Melbourne Footballer (40 games, 2 goals between 2001 and 2004) married Trisha Silvers on 18 December 2004. Eight days later, while spending their honeymoon in the Phi Phi Islands, Thailand, Troy drowned after being swept out to sea by the tsunami that followed the Indian Ocean earthquake and killed an estimated 227,898 people. We will never forget him.

  2. I’ve always been curious as to what type of human one has to be when on sight of someone who’s had one too many, the first instinct is to snap a photo and circulate it on the internet.

  3. I can’t recall off the top of my head being more invested in a player recently, than I was with Jesse. Then seeing him play for Casey that first year, I got really excited at what he might bring to the Dees. I wrote on DL that he was the closest I had seen to a young Carey. Well that is now history for me and the Dees. It is a lesson to me even at my age, not to invest too heavily in individual players, but rather the team as a whole. Good luck JH at the Dockers, though not against us. I have a pretty strong feeling that he won’t achieve the status in football that I thought he would back in his Casey days, but it is up to him and tbh, I don’t really care anymore. Go Dees and merry Xmas DL’s.

  4. I think we've pretty much got our list now and can't see us making a play for another big name unless one of ours moves on. Maybe with Lewis moving on and Jones nearing the end we might have some wiggle room. To keep this list together would be the primary goal and it's going to get more expensive with Oliver an AA and others like Brayshaw heading the same way. Time to get back to the draft and maybe see how a FA might fit at the right time...but as with Gaff this year the bidding price is going up sharply for these players (desperate clubs like North & the Saints are pushing the market too high)and way over their value to my thinking.

  5. The author of the article is a [censored]. I love Jones, but he is far from our most important resigning, as is Ablett at Geelong, by putting ageing veterans in his most important signings takes away a lot of credibility

  6. No disrespect but we are debating about two players who would be sitting well outside our best 22 - probably outside our best 30 - so you have to take into account their future potential and value to the club. Cameron Pedersen will be 32 when the 2019 season starts at the end of March. He was never all that quick but he’s at an age when the body starts slowing down. Smith is four years younger and while neither would have been likely to have much of an impact, the club’s decision to go for the younger man is correct in this instance.

  7. I hope that Hogan succeeds at Freo like Watts at Port! When on song they were two of my favourite players to watch! I suspect that I was watching through rose-coloured glasses and now excited by the team as a whole! We will dominate this year if injuries don’t intervene!

  8. The 'me' generation that has to spend 12 times the annual median income to afford a Sydney house instead of x4 like in the 70's. Additionally you have to factor in lower mortgage interest rates, higher saving rates, lower educational debt etc. C'mon mate. The baby boomers had it easy compared to today. They are the entitled generation, if any.

  9. A [censored] one. I'm just glad that phone cameras and social media were not a thing back in my youth and I recon alot of players back in the 70s, 80s, 90s era that are pretty glad of that too.

  10. For unknown reasons, players that do an ACL at less than 18 are a very high chance of redoing the same ACL (almost 40%). Maybe the fact they are still growing makes it weak. The second ACL injury repair is usually a lot stronger. So here’s hoping it is like Max who also did his first one at 17 and second at 20.

  11. Merry Christmas to all. Particularly to the mods. I only stumbled across this two years ago and it's nice to be in a community (yes it provide community) about a passion of mine. To the rest, keep up the amusing, informative and insightful (mostly) input. Let's see if we can keep the forum flamewars to a minimum in 2019

  12. The biggest drawback at Melbourne is the lack of pace. The filth Richmond and essendrug far out weigh us in this department. Don't underestimate the power of home ground advantage like the eagles have. The biggest weapon we have is the hunger to succeed. It should be enormous. Just thaught I would add a note of caution.

  13. 14 years ago. I heard a news report late Christmas day that something bad had happened to parts of Asia. I had been to Patong Beach 7 years earlier. That was all gone. I had to look up the word “Tsunami” had not heard it before. It was then i realized what had really happened. The movie that was made, i cannot watch it. I have been to too many Asian Beaches to eat, swim and party out under a full moon RIP Troy. Never Forgotten MFC

  14. The truth is that we are all the same at any age. We act on our basic instincts. The 'Me' generation can include anyone of any age. The selfish gene can afflict anyone, anytime. Millennials = Baby Boomers and anyone else in between. We forget what we were like when we were young - or perhaps we go into denial as we age. Oldies pointing the finger at the young is hypocritical.

  15. Very sad times. I still remember his phenomenal improvement that prior season, from good to better, then better to fabulous - a real surprise package onfield. Much loved by supporters, his promise was huge for a good pre-season and a very big 2005 season. Never forgotten.

  16. Weid is the most important signing and Salem will be interesting as to the club and players perception of worth in both contract length and $$$ If you are looking at where we may need to further improve without knowing the output of the current crop we have recruited then Phillips, Gresham, Z Jones, Lewie Taylor should all be enquired into. I still think we need midfield run and a touch of zip around half forward/midfield. I have ignored the unrealistic option of either Kelly.

  17. I think its the other way. I think this generation behaves BETTER as a result of knowing everything could be posted on the net for everyone to see. We just see more misbehaviour because we see all of it and not some of it

  18. For all the improvements the club has made, I've got to say that this is still an issue for me (and other supporters). It's odd enough that there's been no word from the club regarding Gus given he's missed multiple weeks of full training. But what's even more baffling as big red pointed out is that the MFC publish a full article regarding Brayshaw's unique training program on Christmas day, only to end it by saying he won't be completing it this year with absolutely no word on why. Amazing that things go seemingly unnoticed by the MFC. [censored] me off to no end.

  20. Always nice to be in that spot DZ ... might do a couple of 3pick's myself in the EPL seeing as I'm a bit of an advocate of that sort of multi. There's a number of good free scoring teams playing at home against lesser opposition and you'd reckon Man City & Chelsea will bounce back strong.

  21. Bit of a nothing article. I was hoping it was Gary Pert’s Template to resigning the 27,000 elapsed members from over the past 10 years. 27,000 Demons were Members and dropped off. Get them back and we are into the 70,000s. 5 years 100,000 is attainable IF the team consistently perform as a Top 4 Club and can pull of the Premiership(s). Tall Order. But that is what the game is about. Winning Cups and Honouring the players and Coaches who make it happen.

  22. Lever is a concern to me. I know how good he can be, but those knee joints have to be a concern. This years injury was so out of nothing. I wish him all the best, but i also remember Lee Walker. Stephen May is pivotal. Having not watched a lot of Suns games, i am fascinated to see how he intergrates

  24. "TAB ODDS Premiership: $7.50 Top-8: $1.40 Most losses: $151" It wasn't all that long ago that those odds would have been the reverse of that. Since making finals and our ensuing mostly positive finals campaign, the MFC have become something of a media darling. While it sure beats being the whipping boy of the comp and all these champion data rankings are nice, it's all starting to get pretty hollow without actually being the undisputed champion team, with the flag in the bag - I'd much rather have West Coasts champion data ratings than ours right now. That all said, the excitement is certainly building and I can't wait for the season to begin.

  26. It was a nice collect, trying my luck again with house money in the EPL overnight. Well done Macca, paid ok too. Professor Marx came from well back in the field to grab 3rd, big run. Yep, the old tote ticket, I have thrown a couple away over the years. Surprise wins are often the best. So Si Bon broke the drought also today, they said something like 800 days since it’s only win. Looks like there’s good interest for the weekend with some decent horses running around. I’m almost certain El will return at the Valley also on Saturday, that’s the plan anyway.

  28. Well done DZ ... good odds! Radio only for the races today but as luck would have it I snagged the trifecta in the last race at Randwick after thinking I'd missed after the race caller called 'Crafty Tycoon' as 3rd ... checked the results online and saw that Professor Marx got 3rd - Winner! I love those sort of wins - back in the day I might have thrown away the tote ticket! In other news 'Alizee' makes a return to racing in the Christmas Classic at Randwick on Saturday. I'll post up the links to that race and a few of the other feature races on Saturday later on or tomorrow. In the meantime, there's a decent betting race on at Gosford on Friday that might be worth a look-see ... 'Belle of the Turf Stakes' (Group 3) - 'Aloisia' is running in the race and looks well placed ?

  29. Troy's short life and developing career were celebrated a few months later at our first match of the season, under lights vs Essendon at the MCG. I'll never forget the eerie silence that enveloped the MCG during the pre-match that evening. For many of us, I think it was the first full realisation of what had happened, not just to Broady, but to the many thousand others who lost their lives in the tsunami. The Dees had an easy win, and dedicated the victory to Troy ..... very fitting1 I also remember the great work done by the MFC in building a new school on the Phi Phi Islands in Broady's memory. Many of the players of the day gave up their time to assist with the building project. RIP Broady. Never forgotten.

  30. ‘ Hang Man’ wins the 4th at Caulfield first up. Tony Brassel tipped it to win before the race and claimed it’s a serious racehorse. The win couldn’t have been more impressive. I only just tuned in to Sky as Brassel was spruiking it and managed to grab $20s. The replay is worth a watch and the horse is one to definitely follow.

  38. Paging @JV7 @Dr. Gonzo @DeeSpencer @layzie @Dappa Dan @Clintosaurus @Go the Biff @Dee Zephyr @Gorgoroth @titan_uranus @DemonDave All to play for in the final week in the tipping comp. Remembering that 3 points are up for grabs so in theory, we are all in contention to either win outright, or to share the award with 1 or 2 others. Risks almost certainly have to be taken by those not leading but the week doesn't offer up too many potential road winners with only a couple of standouts. But as we've seen previously, the road winners are often there so good luck to all. Leaderboard in the Comp 6 - JV7, Dr. Gonzo, DeeSpencer, layzie 5 - Dappa Dan, Clintosaurus 4 - Go the Biff, Dee Zephyr, Gorgoroth, Macca 3 - titan_uranus, DemonDave

  39. I thinking that recruitment of too young a football player onto our main list, to play footy, has hairs on it. rookie spot at 17, OK... or 16Yr old cadet, yes... but not onto the main list. I think they can't handle the fame, the required maturity, and the pressure of expectation. I think it spoils their thinking.

  44. IMO it was no coincidence that for years we almost always lost when Peder was not playing, yet so often won when he was playing! Not a big star but he did things people don’t notice, and he had as good a “team first” attitude as anyone ever, which is contagous so really helps the scoreboard. IMHO Peder should have always been our #1 CHF ahead of that very nice and intelligent chap reputed to have concrete hands. Peder seems to have been underapreciated and underused yet had a lovely attitude throughout so one can easily feel gratitude and many best wishes for his future. Thanks man.

  45. Possibly agree about fit, for these current (very current) times about Pedo's role. However, I loved the way he played footy, could recover and perhaps win games for us, would protect the smalls and take those inspirational marks at unexpected moments which nearly always benefited the team, the teammates about him and the scoreline. Very sadly, he missed - at the selection table - many, many games as a scapegoat player in the eyes of the FD, mostly unjustified. His versatility in several roles was immediately missed as a result. He was such a good Clubman for the MFC that he held no apparent grudges for this treatment; always there, encouraging more youthful players and selected teams returning to the Clubrooms at half-time, during the half-time break and after the game. Always a face of positivism for the MFC and an excellent team presence demeanour.

  46. It was really more the recruitment of Preuss that sealed Pedo's fate. His value was as a backup fwd/ruck. I loved watching The Bear play, his willingness to run in straight lines and crunch packs in the air and on the ground was a pleasure to watch, a point of difference from many currently on our list and the size of his frame was an asset in this regard. His goal kicking was generally pretty much good, but not quite T Mac level great. His ball use whether by foot or a clever knock to position was somewhat underrated at times. There were games (paticularly during 2016) when I thought he should have played over Weid based on actual performance and capability at the time, but that is now water under the bridge and perhaps in retrospect the selection committee were right to get the Weid the exposure at senior level. On ballance, in retrospect as much as I thought there were big games when Pedo rose to the occasion, I'll accept there were also those where he went missing for too much of the game. I don't think it was a competition with T Smith, who I think plays a slightly different role. Though I have found T Smith somewhat underwhelming, I think he does compete hard and as Spencer somewhat points out he plays a role the coaches ask of him when he plays. I am somewhat surprised that someone like Gold Coast didn't chase the Bear, because I thought he could have been of value to them for a year, but I guess it might not have suited Pedo at this point in his life to be moving half way across the country on a short term prospect either and I heard that GC were chasing local boy big Jake 'Pencil' Spencer for ruck depth (don't know how that worked out). In the end as a fringe player, I think age became Pedersen's enemy at the MFC, but I think he seemed to accept his predicament with great grace and I wish him all the best for the future.

  48. Certainly beautiful for the sponsors of the ball. Not too high start point and control with the right hand onto the foot. Left hand extended for good balance. His goal kicking action reminds me of Billy Bennett - straight, smooth ball drop and high follow through. Like the tongue - maintains focus.

  50. It's taken me a while to come to this view but I reckon we should just let Andy do whatever he likes with the banner. He maintains the site for us and as such I think he should be given carte blanch to do whatever he wants with the banner. It's not like he's going to do something stupid and inconsistent with a Demons supporter site. Go on Andy, do your best. PS: Obviously he doesn't need our permission to do it. I just want the rest of us to respect his efforts and leave him alone to do what he wishes.
