Just finished having a coffee down at Jan Juc with Cam Guthrie sitting opposite and boy was he carbohydrate loading, pancakes, maple syrup, ice cream, and then attacked his girlfriends fry up lunch as well. My wife kept whispering to me kick the chair out from under him! Very unsporting of her.

I think I forgot to mention yesterday that one of the main reasons Casey were playing so well was there unrelenting pressure around the ball, the best I've seen all year. It was very similar to the AFL boys level of pressure when they are playing well. If the Senior boys can bring that same intensity this final series, geez I can easily see both the VFL and AFL going deep into September.

There is a reason I (and many others) would be happy for Bernie to remain at the club in a coaching role or runner or even as captain at Casey, not sure where, but I would be very happy to have Bernie remain a Demon

Is he high? Loved Stynes but that was a dark, lawless and incompetent period in our club's history. He oversaw tanking, 186, a failed rebranding, among other things. Stynes was a member of the boys club, who, along with Schwab, applied bandaid solutions whilst drawing up fantasty ideas and long term plans on whiteboards with zero business or rational case behind the ideas. Stynes came in and saved us immediately with debt demolition, but it was downhill from there. He was out of his depth. We may as well have picked a random store manager from McDonald's to run the joint. May cop some flack for that and some may not want to hear it, but we were in a worse place when he left the club than it was in when he started. I'd rather forget that time and I have no idea why Mclardy would bring Stynes' legacy up in that way.

Great call by Deespicable. Solid team. Fritsch does better on the HFflank in a cross-over role, rather than solely man-on-man. Smith is a must for movement and height, intercepts and disposal. Clarrie on the bench gives it some dignity and will throw their coach off the melting wax throne to which he has become accustomed. I took my kids (4yo and 2yo) today and they loved it. Especially the 4yo. She has been to about 8 games with me this year, but I think she actually enjoyed watching training more because she got up close to the players and her jumper is now covered in autographs. The players were very patient at the end signing hundreds of kids (and some adults) jumpers, footy's and flags. Special mention to Sam Weideman and Neville Jetta - they were really good with the kids - both engaged the kids with a big smile and little chat, whereas most of the other players were a bit more serious (not that theres anything wrong with that). We were waiting for Gawny at the end and there was a huge queue of kids, and he didn't make it to us because the demons staff told him he has to go and do weights. Poor bloke then got mobbed all the way back to AAMI park. As for the actual training, it was just good to see the team running around in September. Really looking forward to Friday night.

This is obvious sitting at ground level at matches. I think a lot of supporters are badly damaged after Sylvia and then Watts. Neither have the personality nor the competitive drive of Petracca. A lot of people think he gets ahead of himself, or that he doesn't realise how good he is. He does know that. And is perhaps his harshest critic. Something I think neither Sylvia or Watts were. They were almost content. Petracca is made for finals.

At the very least, i like the sound of a " Peter Jackson Boardroom" or something like that. If it gets up he deserves a permanent mention somewhere in the building.

QUALIFIED by KC from Casey The Casey Demons shrugged off back to back losses to fellow finalists Box Hill Hawks and Williamstown on Saturday to record a comprehensive 89 point win over Geelong VFL at Casey Fields. The Cats are one of only two teams to have inflict defeat on the Demons on their home turf this year but they were stunned by a withering four goal opening onslaught in the first seven minutes and conceded seven goals to be 41 points down early in the second quarter before offering their only piece of resistance for the game with three unanswered goals of their own to reduce Casey’s lead to 22 at the halfway mark of the term. Unfortunately for the visitors, that was the only shot they fired for the game as the Demons regained the momentum to hold a comfortable lead at the main break. They then emphatically bulldozed their way through a final half filled with spectacular highlights and a stunning display of team football that has sent an ominous warning to the rest of the competition. Geelong was fielding 17 AFL-listed players (five more than Casey) but was reduced to a rabble conceding 13 of the game’s last 14 goals with the Demons scoring the last nine on the trot. The pleasing aspect of the win was that it produced a couple of unlikely heroes in little known youngsters Will Collis and Cory Machaya who have had limited opportunities over the past few years and were playing in part by dint of the growing number of injuries incurred recently to the Melbourne playing list. Collis, who only played two games during the season, was a surprise selection, but had an immediate impact with the opening goal in the first minute and followed it up with a strong tackle that was rewarded with his and the team’s second. He kicked his third major in the third quarter and in between, did a sterling defensive job on dangerous Cat Jackson Thurlow. Small forward Cory Machaya has been around the club for a few seasons and, like yesterday’s teammates Collis and Mykelti Lefau played in the club’s Development League premiership team last year. He was a menace to the opposition all day wherever he played but particularly in front of goal where he scored goals in each of the last three quarters - his, second, a stunner kicked over the shoulder while looking the other way, was a highlight. Coach Jade Rawlings went with a shorter ruck combination against Geelong’s 206cm giant Zac Smith and it worked a treat with Cam Pedersen, Tim Smith and Mykelti Lefau shouldering the hard work at stoppages and while they might not have won many hit-outs at ruck duels, they came away with the clearances and won out around the ground with their marking and attacking football. Pedersen scored two goals in the opening term and hammered an early nail in the Cat’s coffin with his third early in the second before finishing with four for the game. The Casey Demons have been under pressure in defence of late but they received a boost in this game with the superb form of key defenders Declan Keilty and Harry Petty, the latter keeping Geelong’s Esava Ratugolea dislocating a finger before quarter time. Together with returning defenders Jayden Hunt and Joel Smith they played a big role in limiting the Cats to a mere four goals for the afternoon. Hunt started slowly on return from an ankle injury but worked his way into the game and had an outstanding third quarter while Smith, solid early down back, was moved forward where he kicked two second half goals. Pat McKenna was on fire early with two goals but was off injured for most of the second half. Mitch Hannan came back strongly from a knee injury with a three goal performance which included a magnificent hanger that would have a place in any mark of the year discussion. Tom Bugg missed last week as the AFL carry over player, managed 23 disposals before sitting out much of the final term with Hannan and Joel Smith, perhaps to keep the trio fresh in case they are required for Friday night’s AFL elimination final against the Cats’ seniors. No changes were made for the GWS game and I'm sure they'll want to make as few changes as possible for this game. In: Viney, Hannan Out: Kennedy-Harris, Kent I know Kennedy-Harris has got better and contested well, and by all reports shone on the track yesterday, but he's a casualty of not quite being best 22 with a full complement of mid size players. A confident and inform Hannan offers real X-factor to the team. Put simply, we're better with these changes.

Also a great article by Max in the Sun on the contribution Bernie and his family have made to our club. The gist is that they have helped transform the club into a family, a band of brothers who live and breath for each other. A great read and gives great hope for our future.

I could not fathom the arrogance of them requesting a home final in advance while being outside the 8. Be in the position FIRST and then request it. I also hate the arrogance of their fans, they’ve been up for so long they’ve forgotten what it means to suffer and what it should mean when you get to be a part of September action. They deserve a long stint down the bottom for their arrogance but it likely won’t happen for a while because they’re a “destination club”.

Watched Trac today in some of the tackling drills at training and most around us were absolutely gobsmacked by his core strength. It all happens too quickly in a game sometimes to appreciate a player’s unique qualities. Being only 15 or so metres away from that particular drill, it was incredible to watch him brush off tackles from two players at a time with the swiveling of hips and quick lateral movements. Mind you, the drills were with high intensity and players were giving it their all in trying to bring him to ground. Powerful footballer and hope he makes his mark Friday night.

The weekend at Bernie’s on Dangerfield has to have been one of the most satisfying games I’ve ever seen.
