  1. I don't comment too much about the spurious statements made here but sometimes it just goes too far. I had a player parent comment about some of the things that were said about certain footballers on this site. They were not about his son but he confirmed that some parents and family read the site and were upset with the viciousness of some of the comments made. I'm not saying you don't have the right to voice your opinion as to whom should be picked or not get another contract but the way they are being embellished is distressing to some people. I would hope that prior to voicing those opinions you would be happy to hear such comments made about your son or daughter, nephew or niece.

  2. I'm an SA based Dees fan, and I couldn't bring myself to go this weekend. Not because I couldn't get tickets but because of a few things. 1. Struggling to walk on what may be a broken foot after kicking most things within reach last Saturday night. 2. Crows supporters are complete nupties who know absolutely nothing about football. 3. If we go down again like last week, I don't want to be responsible for another fight in the crowd. 4. See 2.

  3. Lewis was, and remains, a fantastic pick up for this club. I love seeing him in the red and the blue. I hate reading some of the carp about him here. We were super lucky to land the bloke. Especially given we traded a pack of stale Cheezels to get him.

  4. Training Wednesday, 25th July 2018 The morning was sunny with minimal wind, though a bit brisk. The players needed a fair bit of encouragement by the coaches to get the intensity up. Once going, then the talk, the commitment and energy increased. Though I thought it was a low keyed training session with plenty of jokes and laughs going around. The rehab group had Dion Johnstone and Michael Hibberd (mainly lap work). Included were the light duty players of Neville Jetta, Pat Mckenna and Oscar Baker. Nev and Pat later joined the main group though didn't do the sprint drills. The mids included Aaron vandenBerg and Christian Petracca. The fowards and backs (Harry Petty, Jayden Hunt) had the usual players. The coaches encouraged, interceptions, fast spreads and finding the "express lane" during simulations. The coaches were.also setting up the first two or three kicks into the players. Goody hitting the mark regularly. Alex Neal-Bullen and Clayton Oliver receiving some physio work on the field. Plenty of goal kicking practice, sets and snaps. from Kev Martin

  8. The people that went after Bailey...no names (you can work it out) were convinced the players were being molly coddled (probably some truth) and needed a bit of old fashioned discipline (overkill). Neeld in his haste and desire to pick up a senior gig was only too willing to sell the message they wanted then tried to carry it through. It was a rotten period in the clubs history and the blame should not be Neeld's alone. He was a symptom of what was wrong and very much the wrong choice by a club clutching at straws and wanting to hear what they wanted to hear. They had no idea. Thank goodness PJ came on board then Roos otherwise I don't know if we would have made it through...

  9. Speak for yourself. I apportion 0% of the blame to myself for the club’s position.

  10. At least he identified the mistakes he made during his time at Melbourne and rectified his ways while at Essendon.

  11. Congrats and best of luck to Lewy on a massive milestone this weekend ! Whilst he can be somewhat of a polarising player on demonland , I’ve always been grateful that he joined our club, I think what he has provided in experience, leadership and on field coaching to our younger group has been invaluable. Well done on a stellar career and hopefully there’s at least one more finals campaign in there!!

  12. Our result is obviously most important, but wins to the Dogs, St Kilda and Fremantle (vs Hawthorn) are all huge for us. If we win and Collingwood lose to Richmond, then we'll be a game off third. We'll go past Sydney (and will have a 15-20% buffer on them, too) and we'll remain a game and percentage clear of Essendon (and North, if they win). We could also move up further if GWS or Port lose. In the ridiculous fantasy dream world, we win and each of GWS, Port, Hawthorn, Geelong and North lose. Then we're in the top 4 and we're a game and percentage clear of 9th with 4 games left. Probably somewhere around 0.0000000001% If we lose, we'll be level on points with Essendon and Adelaide (and North, if they win). We'll drop below Geelong and Hawthorn assuming they win, and be out of the 8 if both win. The impact of just one game is insanely high.

  13. MFC are far too gentlemanly or maybe weak to do that. Worked for the Cats last week and tonight for Bummers Every time the cameras turn to him I nearly puke. Killer of the game we knew and loved.

  14. How about Gill and Steve focus on improving umpiring as a key change to the game for next year Perhaps they can trial it in the last few rounds of this year!!

  15. Why on earth would they come to a forum ?? Seriously. What do they expect...all sunshine and lollipops . I'm not being facetious...just matter of fact. I understand the suggestion...but it's quite naive really to think a forum such as these won't from time to time tear shreads off players and coaches etc. If you don't want to get run over...I'd suggest not standing in the middle of the road.

  16. We’re cheering the Swans on tonight, right? No way we could handle Ess on the same points as us if they win tonight.??

  17. Time has dulled your memory abour how poor a half fit vanders was George. I don’t think you really mean that. I’m excited at the prospect of a fully fit vanders not being far off though. I hope he’s not the traveling emergency unless they think there’s a 99% chance he will play - building match fitness must be the goal at present. It would be a total waste if he doesn’t play at all this weekend.

  18. So from the Alice Springs game: Melbourne In: J Smith, JKH, Tyson, Garlett, Frost Out: Hibberd, Hannan, Lever, Viney, T Smith Adelaide In: Walker, Sloane, Keath, Cheney, Seedsman, Murphy, McGovern, Knight Out: Hartigan, Gibson, Ellis-Yolmen, Douglas, Fogarty, Poholke, Mackay, Doedee We have three AA players missing and their replacements aren't exactly setting the world on fire at the moment. They lose Douglas and Doedee but get back Walker, Sloane, McGovern, Seedsman and Knight. Shows how many fringe players they had in their side in that game. No doubt this is a much stronger Adelaide side than the one we faced last time.

  20. The first lesson every Melbourne coach and player should learn is not to count on Frost to know anything. The best approach is to treat him like an athletically-gifted manchild, or else some kind of football-playing robot. Give him simple instructions and he'll follow them to the best of his absurd athletic ability. Fail to explain things clearly enough though and Sambot will proceed to beat Tom Hawkins in a one-on-one marking contest, but then bolt down the field and hoof it directly to a nest of cats for no reason whatever because his programming has gone haywire.

  21. Bugg has gone a bit quite down at VFL level.. i reckon he knows his papers are stamped and is just going through the motions. I know i will be on my own here, but i honestly thought JKH wasn't even that bad last week. Hes physicality has improved alot and was a goal away from being a hero in this website. He shows good defensive pressure and was one who really tried to crack in. JKH would have felt a bit dejected knowing that probably his name was first on the chopping block, but Goodwin is backing him in and i have a good feeling he might play well this weekend.

  22. The way Sydney is playing, we are every chance to beat them in a fortnight. Tomorrow night is huge for us, now. A clear opportunity to win the next three is open to us if we apply ourselves.

  24. One thing we can all agree on is that we should get him back in as an assistant coach and let him redeem himself and become a legend of the MFC.

  25. This is as far from an issue as possible. We are the highest scoring team in the league. The next closest is Richmond approximately 150 points behind us. We could literally not play for a week and still be the highest scoring team, such is our offensive dominance. Our is issue is our defense from the midfield. Defenders will never be able to stop a ball coming in at a million miles an hour with no pressure on, no matter who they are. Our midfield still has lapses where it does not transition to defend and pressure the ball carrier through the middle. Until this is fixed we will never contend, despite being an offensive juggernaught.

  26. The article is, like his coaching, a bit incomplete. It says that Neeld "admitted that in hindsight he should have trusted his own judgment more when implementing the Demons' plan to rebuild once again" but doesn't explain if it wasn't his, whose judgment he did rely on. I suspect there's a fair bit of dissembling going on. I hope he can find a proper future. He's never going to be a senior coach again and he probably should never have been one, but I don't for one moment think that he wasn't trying to do his best when he was with us.

  27. Unfortunately it comes with the territory ls. If you make your living in public entertainment industry then you have to take the good with the bad. Hurtful comments will be made that is the way of the world especially in this era of internet access. I have a friend who is a local politician her advise is never read the paper and never ever read social media sites like demonland. Tell you friends to stay away as it is the only way. Poor? Yes but that is life in the 21st century.

  30. Chaplin lost me last year when he was seen wearing his Richmond scarf, beanie, jumper and duffel coat to every Richmond final last year despite being a paid MFC employer. Whether he can coach or not is another story. And it's questionable given he's the coach of our worst unit on the field.

  33. Is he really? is he that slow? Whats his endurance like? Remember we need someone as a backup, in-case we lose some insiders to injury in 2019. I'm not interested in Tyson, he just doesn't use the footy anywhere near well enough, that I've seen... Time to shuffle the deck and discard. Without Lew & Tyson,,, we can carry a slow player as an in-under. We just can't carry 4 slow on-ball'rs.. - - - - - -- I'm still in the Pro Pedo corner for 2019,,, for similar reasons. I expect Weidman to start to rise next year, but he will most likely still be inconsistent you'd think. And IF we were to cop a major injury to Hogan or TMc, we would have to rely heavily on Weides. Pedo gives us insurance for the Ruck, Defence, and Forwardline. Good value I think, for the cost of one season salary.

  34. So many on here can't see how close we are. They are judging improvement with wins and losses alone. Yep we are in a wins and losses business but you need to look beyond that and see the changing of the guard and forget about searching for excuses such as curses, the scars of the last 53 years and whatever else occured post Jackson, Roos, Viney, Taylor and Goodwin. How many experts were saying the 1 and 13 Lions had improved greatly and results weren't far away, just a matter of when it happens for us now. The Cats, Hawks and Saints of the mid to late norties all went through this, I just hope we end up with silverware as opposed to the Saints near misses

  37. He (Vanders) came into the team raw, as far as recruits go. Playing in a mishmash of secondary interstate teams, not the glory box of VFL 'reserves', affiliate junior teams such as Casey, for example. Virtually unheard of, as a footballer. Hitting the MFC, he began to shake the ground with multiple Stirling performances, intercepts, marks, what appeared to be both cheap and hard-fought goals, tough contests and tackles, some footspeed for one so big and still very mobile. His recuperation has been lengthy but according to Club reports and a myriad of observers so commenting, he never lost it, he was persistent, he was determined, he did not shirk the issues in one way. He has recovered now, a highly commendable achievement and testament to his endeavour. We should be bringing that endeavour back to the football field in the AFL team. He is an inspiring bloke with real football smarts and skills. He is more value than at least three or four players (unmentioned) who have been selected with some consistency. Let's get it done, now!

  39. Best Bet. Morphetville Race 5 No.8 MUSSOORIE MAGIC TAB Odds: $2.50 Promising 3yr old, won well last start and looks an exciting staying prospect. Is taking on some older horses but it drops somewhat in class. Wide barrier shouldn’t be a concern at this trip and looks a very good chance of winning. In other racing news, Captain Harry is going around again at $16. This time it’s back at Caulfield in R8. Much harder than Adelaide last week, the boys from work said the horse eased up when it got to the front a tad early last week and only got going again when the eventual winner went by him on the inside. I’ll also keep a keen eye out for Mount Kilcoy. Another exciting young stayer and the 2400m seems ideal again. That wraps up this morning’s news. #demonlandtracktalk?

  41. If Collingwood beat Richmond then full credit to them. But their record against the top 8 is only marginally better than ours. 1-4 (1-5 when you add in Geelong), and the only win is against us and we're 0-4 (0-6 including Geelong). The last time they played a top 8 side they got beaten by West Coast, a man down in rotations for over a half, by 6 goals at home. I'm just not yet convinced Collingwood is as good as their record or ladder position suggest.

  44. Incredible how Vanders hasn't played in 2 years and he's gone from very much a fringe player to a champion. I think he's got some decent potential but he's not one who needs to be rushed back until the coaches are 100% satisfied he'll pick up the speed of senior level.

  45. I agree with "selection blunders" however, disagree about JKH who is not up to playing in the AFL at the moment- witness the poor turnover kicks (one resulted in a Geelong goal), The Ablett miss tackle (Ablett did not even have the ball) that resulted in a Geelong goal and the missed goal in the last few minutes. Can't believe we did not bring in Can Pederson for this match. The Crows forward line is very tall with McGovern 190 cm, Walker 193 cm, Lynch 193 cm, Jenkins 200 cm - we will regret not picking Pederson 193 cm, to help Frost, Oscar and Smith. Smith may be OK but is a 8 game player. The Crows forward line is much taller and more experienced. We don't need JKH.

  46. While all the talk has been Lewis 300th, I've been very disappointed that the MFC website has barely made any mention of Dom 100th. I don't care how this comes across, but i couldn't give two [censored] about Lewis 300th.. Been with us for 5 years and has been an important player for us over that development period. I truly still believe he can play an important role for us coming towards the back end of the year. Congratulations Dom..

  47. Not sure which bit the experts on here don't get He had 14 disposals and 7 score involvements and 4 tackles, wasn't involved in last passage of play and yes he missed a shot at goal which all the experts on here, under the pressure he was, would pop through for a goal with aplomb
