  1. My source tells me it's not severe a la Jones last year. 2 to 3 weeks tops.

  2. You must find it extraordinary that this terrific and well-balanced side has won one game less than us and count losses against Footscray, Essendon, and North, who are all out of the eight. Boy oh boy wowee !! How could it be !?

  8. I don't agree that we're overly slow. I know it's a popular assessment. We lack outside class and perhaps one express runner, but we're not as slow as is made out. Oliver, Brayshaw and Petracca are above average in the pace department for big bodied mids. Frost and Smith are above average, while Salem and Jetta are fine. Melksham and Harmes are above average, as are Garlett and Spargo. Fritsch is also fine, as is Jones. We know the small handfull who lack pace. If you're winning the contest and spreading it's amazing how quick you can look. Who's Geelong's outside star that regularly cuts up the opposition ? Like us, they don't have one. As for balance ? We've got the best ruck of the two teams. We have two dangerous key forwards to their one. We're playing two tall defenders, plus the 191cm Smith, which looks fine to me. It's not our best personnel, but we're talking 'balance' here. We have two small quick crumbers up forward. We've got 'one on one' midsize strength with Melksham and perhaps Petracca or Fritsch. Where is their superior 'balance' you speak of ? Btw, they have 8 players under 50 games to our 4. As for their "precise footskills' ? This is a furphy. The reason Adelaide beat them last week is because they butchered the ball by foot out of their defence. We may lose this game (I think we'll win), but it won't be because we're slow or they have better balance.

  9. Port Adel, three 50 meter penalties all resulted in goals , all home town decisions and their were many other deplorable decisions on the night. A classic example, Jake Melksham's one on one mark and goal in the goal square given for holding, bodied his opponent out, disgrace. Small minds tend to think umpiring bias doesn't occur. That's almost as worse as a Pies fan claiming the AFL don't favour the bigger clubs with fixturing etc to generate more revenue. CARLTON they deserved their primetime slots im sure of it, their a top side playing a good brand of footy. Blinded by the light. Move along nothing to see here. Must work for the AFL.

  12. Petty broke a finger last week so that's why he isn't playing Kingy copped a decent headknock when AVB accidentally hit him when he was bullying through a pack, bit of delayed concussion I think. Yeah I would think so too, which hurts Casey as Geelongs can get opened up by switching the play a lot and Wags was probably the best at that for Casey off the half-back. I'm not expecting a good result for this game. Geelong have been the only team to consistently beat Casey over the last 3-4 years, we just never seem to play well against them. They are ranked Number 2 in Defence and Casey are ranked Number 1, so it's going to be a battle of the midfield and which defence stands up better (I'll back in Keilty, Hutchy and Pedo to rule the day) but if the boys can step up with the lack of AFL talent and win this game, I think that'd put a lot of confidence into the AFL boys, so we'll see.

  13. small matter of Gaff to sort out first methinks. Fantastic news about Nev. Thanks for the commitment Neville. You are a much loved and respected member of the Demons family. Very bloody happy about this, and also with the club for showing continued faith with a lengthy contract.

  16. Runners should be outlawed full stop. They are a blight on the game. I can't think of any other game where people run on/off the field like AFL. International vistors always comment on it - 'who are those guys out there!' They block space, tell players how long left in a quarter and basically coach from on ground. It'stotally ridiculous. Get rid of them. It's a relic from another age when communications were not there, we had captain/coaches and no interchange. I'll make an exception for water carriers because players do run a lot and the carriers I think are only allowed on after a goal is scored or other break in play...

  17. Very solid Wells. Not in the business of selling false hope to the long suffering here. Assuming the recovery goes as expected, Hibbs will return in 2 to 3

  18. Delighted with the changes and the scene is set for a ripper game down there. I'm sure we'd win if it was back at the 'G, but down there they are a 5-10 goal better team, part of that because of home-town crowd inspired umpiring. Whilst I would have liked to see our ever-ready battery Baker get a gig, I'm pleased he doesn't begin his career in such a cauldron and I'm also pleased JKH gets a chance to see if he can make it before decision time at season's end. He doesn't have to be sensational, he just has to stick his tackles and be evasive and link up. If he ends up on Kelly he's got to be there with him and if it's Menegola, then he's got to negate his height advantage. I suspect Scott has decided to use Blicavs as back-up to Stanley at times on Max in the hope of running the legs off him. And I'll be gobsmacked if Scott Selwood isn't given the job of a hard tag on Angus. How Angus copes with it, will probably determine if we can get a break on them before three-quarter time. I think all of us will be gobsmacked if in turn Goody plays Tyson again on a wing. My guess is that we will be sending him to Joel Selwood from the outset and hoping he can negate for at least the first half - the role he should have been given in Rd 1 if you recall. Oliver, I suspect, will start forward and if our coach has started to learn that you need to have the odd structural move up your sleeve, then he will move him into the middle when Tyson starts tiring each quarter. I love us having the flexibility of both Smith and Fritsch to throw forward, back or on to a wing as needs be. Ultimately though it will most likely get down to the final quarter will to win and that's when Joel does his best work and it's when we will really miss Viney. It would be lovely if Trac stepped up and took over the stoppages in the last, but it's hard to believe in fairytales.

  19. I’m really nervous about this game, but only because of its value to our finals aspirations. It’s the most important of all those remaining on the schedule considering Geelong are one of our key rivals on the ladder. I’ve seen this Geelong team fold to pretty uninspiring teams a few times this year. Talent for talent, this game is quite winnable.

  20. The last time I created a thread like this it was last year and we went on to smash the Crows in Adelaide. Will it work a second time? Let's cross everything and hope so.. Anyway, when we beat Geelong, I will... be wondering why I didn't tip us.

  24. Look, myself and I'm sure many others on this site have seen many games at all levels of football where the lesser favoured side has upset the favourite because they wanted it more. It's time for us to seize the opportunity and announce ourselves. It's not as though the match is a Tigers v Blues equivalent. They're not that good if the attitude is there we can do it.

  26. Not much flashiness about him but geez he's a tough and honest competitor who is often forced to battle outside his weight. I hope he's getting a good quid. He bloody well deserves it.

  29. Great win. Gawny's break out game - killed them in the second half. It also wrecked the Cory Enright 300 game celebration which was a nice bonus

  30. 17 game season should be it. Alternate home and away each year. They shouldn't reward through the fixture just give everyone an even shot at the good timeslots. This 17-5 concept they're going for is a farce and trying to fit a square peg in a round hole.

  33. My first thought was just a simple 'nope', it doesn't seem credible at all. Certainly from our perspective, where winning only two of the final 6 rounds would feel like failure almost regardless of final ladder position. But hmm, currently 4 teams on 9 (or 9 1/2) wins, two of those teams in the 8, two out of it. Look at it this way - if Geelong win 3 games to finish on twelve and preserve their percentage, then the chasers North and Hawthorn would have to win 4 games out of 6 to climb over them. Mind you, only one of them would need to do it, obviously. Oh it gets better. It's Catch-22 time! Beat Geelong, then it is less likely we'll need the thirteenth win, but more likely we'll have it. Lose to Geelong, then it becomes basically certain we'd need that 13th win, but much harder to get there. Saturday night is just getting bigger and bigger. I swear I just saw my MFCSS physically manifest as a dark shadow along the back of the couch.

  36. Dogs won a flag in 2016 and many tipped to bounce back, Crows dominated last year and played off in a GF and Cats have been a powerhouse forever. I'm not complaining, but how do we not play WCE, GWS and SYD in the final 3 rounds when we haven't played them all year!!? Plus played the Bulldogs twice in 5 rounds?

  37. Getting in the 8 is a relatively low bar in an 18 team competition. Being the highest scoring team in the comp by a long way should in theory give us top 4 credentials. Just scraping into the 8 is really a C- pass.

  38. Realise that we still have not beaten a side above us & they won't be in the 8 so bragging will be shot down. It must be awful to win every match and be on top of the ladder, looking forward to it just the same.

  39. That would be some win if we can get up tomorrow night Wadda. I notice the Dees have the wobbles in the markets after Hibbo’s quad injury. The races have been somewhat of a grind this winter, a couple of winners here and there have kept the ledger even to a degree. Bring on the spring I say. As @Macca stated - We’re due! A Best Bet multi win and a Dees win down at Sleepy Hollow? I’d like to see that!

  40. You and the other posters fail to recognise the inherent randomness of our great game.Humans constantly make errors. Missed kicks, dropped marks, and yes umpiring decisions. Then there’s the bounce of the ball, the umpires bounce, the ground size and surface, the temperature, the wind, the rain, shadows, sun the stops players use, and a host of other random chaotic events. Singling out umpires mistakes and saying that’s why a team won or lost fails to see the big picture. I hope your life isn’t this narrow

  43. I’ve been to the future and the bad news is that this team will struggle against the Geelong VFL team on Saturday. It’s not all bad news however, because I was able to hang around for the main game and can report that the boys well and truly atoned for round 1. I’m helping GOTO prepare his match report soon.

  44. If Dom finds himself on the wing at any point, I'm convinced Goodwin isn't a good coach. Tyson is one dimensional and contested, can win the ball and should be in the guts 100% of his time on the ground. leave him there.
