In my opinion this is the best and most important win we’ve had in the last 6 weeks. Yes it was ugly but to grind out a win was very important. I wanted to see how we would perform when challenged and when things were going against us. Well today was that day and coming off a 5 day break with a man down, 2 more carrying injuries, bad umpiring and getting smashed in clearances and we won by 50 points. Gees you would take that any day, but especially given the circumstances. This win tells me more about where we are as a club than the last 5 wins have. I am scarily excited.24 points

Im at the nursing home this arvo. Luckily we have big screen TV's in both lounge rooms, and enough footy supporters amongst the residents to "demand" the game is on. Anyone who complains will be plonked in a wheelchair and taken to their room for some "quiet time". I will also be hiding the remote control to foil any bids to ruin my day. Most cant walk anyway, so as long as no visitor makes trouble, it should all be ok. If not, nurse grumpy will complain of Gastro symptoms and hide in the loo where i can live stream radio. I never get disturbed there as im the only male nurse. All good !! GO DEES !!!16 points

I thought Nev played one of the great back pocket games today. Clearly BOG IMO.15 points

Here is the usual 'drop/rest' Spargo talk that we get each week. Did you see the piece of play where he got the ball on half back, hand passed it off and then sprinted forward to make another option before hitting a target inside 50? You don't get that from Garlett, but you get it from Charlie. I hope he plays in the seniors for the rest of the season.15 points

In many years of watching the game I have seen elite defenders control back lines, Scarlett, Silvagni, Hodge, Rance have all done it many times but I have never seen a small defender control a back line like Nev did today. Big Roughead ran at him today a few metres from goal, Nev holds him up in a tackle even with a two feet high and 40kg deficit Roughy was going nowhere. Ball keeps coming in and Nev keeps sending it out, Lever off, Hibbo having the biggest mare of a game in his brilliant career but Nev keeps sending the pill straight back out winning every one on one along the way. This goes on all day then the ball is coming in to one on one Nev v Boyd, Boyd has height and weight all over him but Nev simply moves across unbalances Boyd and the ball comes to ground. These best small defender I had seen was Wanganeen but I dont think he could have achieved what Nev did today. Great performance and another guy who has been there through some hard times and deserves success.15 points

It was a dirty day, especially with Lever doing down, but good sides win games when things aren't going their way. We did that today and showed real maturity after it took us 15 minutes to get going. The big one for me was our back line. With Lever going down it left us with just Oscar as a tall defender, and we still kept them to a low score while also doing some wonderful things across half back. Jetta was immense, Hibberd did some good things, Lewis and Vince provided calm heads and even Harmes patrolled across there once Lever went down. It's becoming a real strength of our side. Our mids were smashed in the clearances, which was really surprising. But on the flip side they worked their backsides off once we went 3 goals down and helped to turn things around. Oliver and Gus, in particular, were fantastic. And then you have Hogan and Macca who both kicked bags and showed how awesome they can be together for a long, long time. Awesome stuff. Special mention to Bayley Fritsch as well. What a pick up this kid is. When we traded Watts for the pick we took him with we clearly knew what we were doing. 26 touches and 14 marks is a day out and he just keeps getting better and better. We are 8-3 and playing great footy. We now get an 8 day break and hopefully Lever isn't too badly injured and won't need to spend too much time on the sidelines. Bring on the Filth and our 7th win in a row!!14 points

It doesn't seem all that fashionable to like Jordan Lewis, but I thought he was very good again today and is having another good year. He'd be fairly happy with his career move too, he chose us over 10 other clubs, and it didn't really work last year. He would be thinking flag #5 is at least a genuine possibility now.13 points

Didn't influence the result and evened itself out a bit but [censored] me Ray needs to stop thinking people pay money to see him pull shitty frees out of his backside from 100m away.11 points

This is perhaps the greatest overreaction I have ever read on here. We better pack up shop. Sitting second on the ladder and we lose one player and you reckon we are done for finals10 points

G'day all! I posted a video featuring Jeff Farmer's nine goal second half against the Pies a few days ago and thought I'd follow it up with another video I've been working on for some time. To celebrate the Doug Nicholls Indigenous Round, I've put together a highlight reel featuring one of Melbourne's most exciting players from the last decade, The Warlpiri Wizard himself: Liam Jurrah! On a side note, congratulations to Nathan Jones on his 250th today! Go Dees!8 points

Stopping their momentum after their 3 quick goals at the start was awesome. The players did it within the quarter whereas in the past it was more the coaches at the breaks. The team has really matured to see what needed to be done and got it done. Having said that Goodwin moved TomMc forward mid first term which gave us a target. Until then we had 17 i50 for 1 point. That move helped changed the game. On a humourous note - had a good laugh when Trengove was in Max's face while play was still on and then Max points to Jesse about to kick a fantastic goal. Bevo should have dragged him for that - the bulldogs still had a chance at that stage.8 points

God I hate Etihad but very happy to have been at the game. Thank God we don’t have to play there again this season. To the loud mouthed, obese, bad tempered Bulldog supporter sitting next to me who invaded my personal space for four quarters - hope it’s an uncomfortable trip home. Your team are rubbish.8 points

There was a time not so long ago that if you woke up on the morning of a game and your opponent for the day had 13 premiership players, two days extra break and the venue was Etihad Stadium, you would sort of freak out in the expectation of another flogging. Those days are gone. Good luck to Nathan Jones - he’s like a good wine that gets better with age and side by side with Jack Viney, should lead the Demons home to victory in his 250th game.8 points

Very rarely post but an avid reader of the forum. Nev’s Game today was reminiscent of the great Gavin Wanganeen, won the ball in the air, on the ground contest after contest. Quite simply watching him today was like watching a virtuoso performance of a master at the absolute top of his game. A must for All Australian.6 points

Jones in the post game interview made a point of the heat in Alice. That, coupled with the interstate travel last week and the doggies having 2 extra days rest and no travel, leads me to believe our second half was immense. Loved Jetta, 3 votes, super effort. Gees I’d be concerned if I was Bevo. No firepower at all. With a very lop sided free kick count too (26-18).6 points

Just watching the replay (2nd quarter) and my god Hogan is a beast. Has exceeded my lofty expectations. He must be an AA lock, racking up midfielder stats and averaging 3 goals a game. He seems to be playing with a freedom he hasn't had before, always seemed like he had a load on his shoulders. Now he's the player we knew he would become and he's proving to be one of the stars of the comp. His next 5 years will be fun to watch. Jetta was superb today, love Lord Nev as the MFC podcast crowned him. My 5yo gave him a high five after the game too which made his day.5 points

How good were some of our passes into the middle that set up goals. It was beautiful to watch. By the way I don't want to hear any media saying we can't win at etihad now. We have won all our games there this year. I think this picture sums up the day and what it meant to our skipper. https://www.instagram.com/p/BjhHZP2hiKb/?hl=en&taken-by=nathan2jones5 points

Completely agree.. Again on todays game spargo showed he's made this position his own. Lowers his eyes . Chases. Beautiful kick. Hard runner. Mature beyond his years in a tight spot. Doesn't panic. Lets all move on.5 points

Just got home from the game. We played well after that 1st quarter. We did what he had to do. Shut down the dogs. We held them to only 4 goals after 1/4 time to ours 13. Tommy and Jess are becoming fantastic having them up there together. They work so well together. Jetta wow what a reliable underrated defender he is. He was just awesome today. Maxy was great except his goal kicking. Just fix it Max and you will be the complete player. Loved the game from Gus, clayton and happy to see Jones kick a goal at an important time to. Viney gets another game into him. Yes the Lever injury hurts but someone will step up to take that role and our backline is pretty stable at the moment. Fristch went back and took some great marks. We are sitting 2nd which will probably change but at the moment life as a melbourne supporter is pretty good. I liked the moment at the 20 minute mark of the final quarter Brayshaw came off and Jones came back on. The two of them had a little hug It was great to see Jones out there with his 2 kids and celebrating with them after. He deserved to be chaired off as a winner.5 points

No one is a better supporter than anyone else. We all contribute in our own ways, whether that be through attendance, membership, posting here or wearing your gear into work on a Monday win, lose or draw. While I don't agree with some posters on here, that doesn't mean I would consider them any less of a supporter than me or anyone else.5 points
