  1. Pretty sure being called a 'black c***' in your workplace (or anywhere for that matter) falls outside of 'grievance culture'.

  3. Peter Jackson from the bottom of my heart l applaud you for steering us away from Doom and Gloom. l am sure Melbourne supporters feel the same way. You helped our great club when in need. We were a lost soul and you helped to make us viable again and set us on the right track. To me your a Demon for life. Thanks once again for being part of our Great club.

  5. If he was racially and sexually vilified, he has every right to demand compensation. It doesn’t matter how long has passed. I’m sick of this “grow a pair” mentality in AFL. Harassing someone over race or sexuality is ILLEGAL.

  8. Hmmm did Hunt train with the seconds? He was training with the ones and really berating himself for struggling with some one on one contested marking duels with Harmes/Melch/Neville. Later he was doing a drill with Stretch and a coach it seemed on body positioning to get a contested ball. This was after the firsts left. Not sure how to read it. He was really [censored] off with his efforts for the contested mark drills so he may have requested further advice from the coaches. Just an observation on my part. I got the impression we have a kid who really wants to be the best he can be and that is good news.

  11. These are the worst kind of posts on footy forums. You provide zero context and one is left guessing as to the veracity of the contribution. From experience one nuffie relays a comment they've heard from another nuffie who read the link on a news outlet that Brayshaw, who wasn't getting a game at the time, should potentially seek a trade to Freo. Cue the nuffie relating 4th hand info as though it's fact. It happens all of the time. Said nuffie actually "heard" nothing. Having said all of that, I'm virtually certain Brayshaw won't want to leave all of his mates when they're on the verge of maturing into the side we and they have hoped for. It just doesn't make sense. And if it doesn't make sense it won't happen.

  12. Outstanding job. Came with a great reputation but over 5 years has exceeded all expectations. Its called leadership. Real leadership. Along with Paul Roo's he gave the club credibility, respect, and a new found confidence in its future. As a result, after a long hiatus, the MFC has become a serious footy club. Probably the true measure of his impact may not be known for another 5 to 10 years, but there is good reason to think that he will be judged well by posterity.

  13. Gold Coast led by 17 points when the teams played in 2017 before Melbourne kicked 14 goals to six in the second half. Jeff Garlett starred with 24 disposals, eight marks and five goals. This on top of his 5 against the Lions at the Gabba a few weeks back, means he should be seriously considered despite some poor form recently. Vince deserves a rest after a hectic schedule and another short turnaround interstate. For me it would be ANB and Vince out and Salem and Jeff in. Save Viney for the G next week.

  14. Players hold off all the time. Especially if they’ve been injured or playing out of form. If they know they can only increase their value by backing it up in the seniors, they’ll take that opportunity to squeeze more $ out of the club towards their contract. The media needs to disconnect themselves from thinking that putting contract talks on hold, means they are thinking of leaving the club.

  15. I'm calling fake news from the following line in the article which is the only mention of contract talks being on hold without any citing of sources or a statement from Brayshaw or management. The Demon has made clear he wants to stay at Melbourne, but is likely to hold off on signing a new deal for at least another month after starting the year in the VFL team. The media give me the [censored].

  16. Those coming up for the game, if any, don’t make it a hit and run. Central Australia is amazingly beautiful, you can be busy for a month and not see all the sites. Anyone coming up for the game and want some advice on the area, feel free to ask and will do my best to guide you in the right direction

  17. Well, your’re a well adjusted, resilient individual, congratulations. You did leave black c*** off the list of things you’ve been called over the years though. Have you ever been called a black c****?? I’m a 35yo, 6’3”, straight, white male; I don’t profess to tell minorities how they should be reacting in situations I couldn’t possibly have any understanding of.

  20. wow. Im shattered. Was hoping hed stay on for a few more years and be there when we pull in a flag. He's been so good for us. A CEO the likes of which we've never had, or not in the 45 years since Ive been following anyway. I guess it gives us time to get out [censored] together and bring in someone else who's of similar callibre. Still, Its a sad day. Much gratitude to him though for helping steer us out of the dark wood we were in.

  22. Preparing a midfielder for AFL is very different to preparing a key position player. That’s not even taking into account the fact that Tom Mac had much more of a pre-season than Viney, played the AFL X game and one JLT game. Given the fact that he’s the best runner at the club, it’s easy to see why Tom could come back in and have some sort of an impact. In fact, there wouldn’t be many players in the AFL that could have had the same impact as he did in his comeback game against Essendon. Viney is a midfielder, was off-legs for much of the pre-season and doesn’t have the natural tank that Tom has. His position is also so much more demanding at AFL level. He might be training with the main group, but there’s no way I see him playing AFL this week against a Gold Coast side that’s not much chop. He needs to build minutes at the lower level. We’ve learnt once about bringing him back too early. There’s no way we make that mistake again.

  23. Really feel for Jessie. He gets rubbed out for 2 weeks last year for a lesser act of aggression yet this attack on him gets viewed as it all his fault.

  24. There is an article in The Mercury but I can't get behind the pay wall. A snippet says: "AFTER 10 years and 141 games at AFL club Melbourne, one of North Hobarts favourite sons, Colin Garland, could make his return for the Demons in the TSL against Lauderdale at North Hobart Oval on Saturday". My favourite Col moment was when he played forward and kicked a few goals which gave us a win against Ess and then jumped into Neeld's arms with joy when the siren went. 2012 was it? My favourite but poignant comment from him was when Frawley won a premiership medal and Col was asked what he thought. Col's response was something like 'it wouldn't mean much if it wasn't with Melbourne.' That says it all about the type of person he is. Sadly another player who gave his all but perhaps was too scarred from our abysmal years to make the transition when Roos joined. Glad the club gave him the chance to try coaching before leaving entirely. Wish him well and glad his local side is also a Demon outfit!

  25. If Salem is fit he comes in, probably for ANB, who has had low disposals and high turnovers, despite his pressure acts. I would rest Vince for a game and save him the travel as well, on the back of a 6 day turnaround and a heavy recent load. That makes a spot for Viney if he is to come straight in. Garlett is the interesting one, with poor recent form, but 5 match winning goals last time at the Gabba. To be honest, I would save Viney the travel and play him the next week at the G against the Blues and just do the two changes above, Salem and Jeffy for ANB and Vince. BTW any talk of dropping Spargo is mad, he is a revelation. Has not made a mistake. We need to get as many games into him, Bayley and Weid as possible. PS. A big hello to the Oscar haters of last year, he has been nothing short of sensational and is becoming one of our most important players.

  27. Everything he's done for the club has been brilliant. We are in a terrific position off field thanks largely to PJ and his ability to work in tandem with the senior coach and the board, something we weren't able to do for a very long time. But all good things must come to an end at some stage, and his willingness to stay in some capacity in 2019 to assist the new CEO in the transition just goes to show what a professional and committed CEO he has been for the club. Enjoy a well earned retirement PJ, your contribution to the club will never be forgotten.

  30. This is too easy. Managers never rule out a young player like Brayshaw leaving when he's in the final year of his contract especially when two weeks ago he didn't have huge currency with his incumbent club (from a financial perspective). That's what managers are paid to do. To see what options might be out there to put some pressure on the existing club. This goes on all of the time. But in no way does that mean his preference is to leave. I have zero doubt his preference is to stay - assuming Melbourne's offer is reasonable. Players "consider their options" all the time when they're in the final year of their contract. So when anonymous posters say "I have heard he's looking around", unless it's a rock solid source, such as the player himself saying he's not happy and wants a move, I take no notice of that sort of hearsay at all. None. It means nothing.

  34. As this article explains - Colin Garland has headed back to Tas for personal reasons. I don't really care for the AFLW competition, nor have I met Colin Garland, but jeez, something in me feels rather rather sad about him leaving the football club- even though everything is always transitory. Always seemed like a lovely bloke and really insightful. Hope all goes well for him in the future, whatever that may look like.

  36. Its click bait, folks! The article makes it clear the Club wants to sign him up and Gus wants to stay. If feeling doubtful listen to him as a guest on the AFL Exchange podcast. http://www.afl.com.au/news/2018-05-08/podcast-how-a-demon-got-his-mojo-back around the 15 minute mark. He says something like: It is a romantic idea to play your career at one club and it definitely is attractive to him...hopefully what the club is building is worth more than money". Listen to his tone of voice - very genuine. After two years of setbacks he deserves a few months to establish his credentials for a decent contract - same as Tom Mc is doing to establish his credentials as a forward before re-signing. Gus is mature enough to block out the media noise and just focus on his game. As an aside, on Tom's contract, Gus says: “Everyone knows Tom is Melbourne thru and thru. No one at the club concerned that he will leave. He loves the club and they love him.” The podcast is worth listening to, especially the first half as there is a bit of chat about the Dees. Gus is an engaging and articulate young man. He is a real asset to our club on and off the field.

  37. I truly wish they would do the list chronologically by soonest to return. It’s so much more readable that way: Melbourne injury list: round eight Jack Viney (foot) – test Christian Salem (thumb) – test Harley Balic (platar fascia) – test Mitch King (elbow) – 2-3 weeks Dean Kent (hamstring) – 4 weeks Aaron vandenBerg (ankle) – 6-8 weeks Corey Maynard (hip) – indefinite Pat McKenna (hamstring) – indefinite

  38. I am really glad I found Demonland (thanks Browney!). It is really opening my eyes to footy and is a really insightful read. You guys do an ace job. (Also, embarrassingly, caused me to sign up as a member for the first time in the 31 years I've been barracking.)

  40. Weird thread. Both differing in skill-sets and neither of them are well rounded yet. Petracca is clearly more dynamic. But when they’ve hit 100 games together with Oliver, and Viney is close to 150 our midfield is going to be pretty crazy. That’s all I care about.

  42. Sadly, common sense also dictates without hesitation that Carlisle must absolutely receive an official penalty of some significance for his unsportsmanlike action to Hogan's throat - and we do not care if it is retrospective - meaning today or in the next few days. Without that AFL response, the whole system of fair play AFL is in jeopardy. Evidence is evidence ... please explain to Hogan and the MFC why it has not been actioned!

  45. Amusing how some are criticising Brayshaw's kicking on one hand, but then stating that Trac is elite/better etc? When you compare their career stats they're basically the same, for everything, and I'd argue that Brayshaw has had the more interupted run of games to get his touch. If you actually want to go off this years Disposal Efficency, Brayshaw 68.5% (avg 3 clangers per game) Petracca 63.6% (avg 4.8 clangers) Oliver 72.2% (avg 4.4 clangers) Personally I think Brayshaw is more rounded, can use both sides of his body. Petracca is more x-factor, I don't recall him ever kicking opposite foot? I love the upside of both players and would love both to end up one club players with 250+ games. ??

  48. No not the same unit. I know Dr. David Bolzonello from Alphington sports medicine clinic joined the MFC this year. The crew at Alphington have been working with elite athletes/olympians for the 25 years I have been going. He takes no [censored] and will not be forced into anything. IMHO he was the one that said Viney/Tmac would not play for 6-8 weeks!
