  1. The only one that comes close appeared in the Sun abut 20 years ago, when lowly Caledonian Thistle thrashed Celtic 3-1 in the Scottish Cup.

  4. A few of the players have communicated that to me, new season clean slate, Goody will pick the 22 fit, in form and playing their role to a high consistent standard If we have a consistent 22 over a period of games, it will mean we are playing a good winning brand of footy

  5. I love the way supporters are the club when it suits them, and "they" are the club when it doesn't. We are all the club. Get on board, pay your membership and be a supporter. We won't be going anywhere with fickleness like this.

  6. Some of you are taking this way too seriously. Watts is supporting his new team just like Lever, Lewis, Frost, Bugg, Tyson, Garlett, McKenna, Vince, Hibberd and Melksham do for us now. Double standards abound.

  7. One of the drills was set up to stimulate two forwards essentially getting the ball almost alone in the forward line and running into an open goal. That's probably an over simplification but it was heavily weighed to two forwards (usual a 2 on 1 situation) getting the ball on a rebound and running into 50. Playing as alone defender with the odds stacked against him Lever was able to get back quick enough to effect an intercept spoil and on another occasion also tackle an opponent and stop a certain goal. He will change our team.

  8. Disagree with this. Everyone has the right to decide. Essentially over the past 11 years we have had an inferior product. If any business had a product that bad for that long they would have shut their doors. Our supporters have kept this club alive for an extended period, like our players each supporter decides whether they buy in and turn up each week. Circumstances change both my kids now support other teams you try to steer them towards the team you support but they eventually decide who they will support. Them supporting other teams comes down to on field performance easy to convince kids when your team is winning when their not is easy for their mates to convince them to change.

  9. My 92yo father came to the football with me, my daughter and my brother and saw a win just before he passed away. He had not renewed his membership because of his mobility problems however the Club still sent him a scarf. He died thinking we might be Premiering contenders this year.

  10. I cannot believe anyone allows their kids to support other teams.

  11. I can't imagine my two boys growing up to support other teams. It would break my heart. The 4yo is well and truly indoctrinated hopefully that won't change. The 2yo is still very young but on the way.

  12. Jack Watts the footballer has often made me want to puke, but the only story here would have been if he'd said the opposite.

  13. Interestingly so is Salem, he is finally free all injuries/ailments etc and did a heap of extra work, wants to show what he can do, hasn't missed a beat up to now, his running has gone to another level

  15. A few new faces on the calendar. In: Jetta, Hunt, Garlett and TMc. Out: Tyson, Vince, Watts, Brayshaw. Rapt to see Jetta there. To go from delisting, to rookie, to AA squad is a superb achievement. A loyal servant of the club who is the best he can be and still taking on challenges to improve himself. Respect. Have been a huge fan of Hunt since I first saw him play, early in 2016, so delighted to see him on the calendar. A player who did not come in with any fanfare but has worked damn hard to cement his place in the side and now a deserving fan favourite. Edit: Forgot to mention, Petracca gets the honour of the cover page.

  17. Plenty of times players have got games on reputation rather than merit. I assume every coach will say that is out the window when they come in and a clean slate will apply but it's not always the case.

  26. Or he might find a photographer to take a beautiful picture of the reef in all its colour and glory and then use that in an emotive campaign to claim climate change isn't impacting the reef at all, and then The Age could write a story on it, admitting in the story that the picture doesn't prove anything at all about climate change but hey, what the heck, it's a powerful image so let's run with it anyway. Because that's what the polar bear story is - propaganda masquerading as news. In days gone by, newspapers like the Age were on guard against PR stunts like this; now, they just print them, conceding in the article itself that it's a con. Pardon the pun, but the story does not bear out the headline. I understand the role that evocative and emotive symbols and imagery plays in getting a message across, highlighting an issue etc, but if it's not grounded in fact, then what's the point? It just ends up being ammunition for the other side, and gives credence to the whole phenomenon of 'fake news', undermining real stories and the public's trust in reputable media outlets and information.

  31. There’s aspects of Salem’s game (silk, ability to extract the pill, movement) that reminds me of Adem Yze.

  32. Favourites can mean players who the coach, unlike us, believes can perform to the required standard. To commit a heresy, there have been times when I thought that Jack Viney was not performing to his best standard. Obviously, the coaches thought otherwise as he has been highly placed in the B&F. Let's accept that they are looking for something else and that our perceptions are different.

  33. It's the the first statement from the coaching cliche handbook... Sorry 'Sat', not trying to be negative but... I've never met, played under or heard a coach who hasn't used this one. However human nature says the coach will have favourites no matter what he says. It's not always a bad thing, it's just life.

  34. salem has the capacity to be a super player he's got to now get the football under his belt to become that damaging user of the ball who also contributes defensively he hustles and bustles like luke parker when he's up and about

  35. I think he meant that there are no favourites with Goody and he will pick the best team/matchup for the opposition of the day. I'm not sure if this was something that was actually communicated to him or if it was just an opinion. I'm not sure if you can just pick a whole new team from week to week as there are so many factors and moving cogs.

  38. I think he meant "compared to choosing Geelong" "Where else can I get away with being a flakey outsider with limited application to my chosen profession? Outside of moving into the public service downhill skiing Port is the perfect opportunity to while away the rest of my career"

  40. I think the station recognises quality on-air talent. The best example is coaxing back Frances Leach who is able to converse on all sports and his highly articulate - a true broadcaster. KB is another example of a true broadcaster who just happens to be an ex-champion. Lyon and Watson also. I see this as improving the stable, albeit its tough on those leaving and much sympathy to them. The Drive show was a standout weakness for the business. I'd be mortified thought if Hird was appointed.

  41. The only good thing to come out of us missing the finals was I stopped listening to the radio (which included a lot of SEN) and started listening to podcasts. This morning on the way to work I turned on SEN for a brief minute and heard Danny Frawley talking about Collingwood's injury problems. It's December. As for Craig Hutchison, the sight and sound of him makes my skin crawl, I wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him. Crocmedia fined $24,000 for exploiting young workers He's the kind of person that would commercialise every aspect of the AFL (even more so than is done now) just to make a quick buck even if that commercialisation would in the long-run ruin what it is that people love about the game.

  42. Most forget Salem started 2017 very well before injury, and like others, he never really got going after that. If he stays injury free, he will be one of our big movers this year.

  43. What's his agility and reading of the play like? Nev Jetta made a success of transitioning to a defender, based partly on his ability to quickly change direction, and cut off the angles for his opponent. The pressure/tackling thing is good news, but as a defender it's also a requirement to kill a contest and prevent an opposition disposal. If you cant read the play, you are one step behind.

  44. Be intersting to see who gets a run in the preseason games (who potentially is close to pushing their case for a spot in the seniors) and who starts out at Casey. I reckon this will be a significant ‘form guide’ as to who the club is seeing as most likely to crack a debut in the season proper. There seems to be some serious competition for spots, and if the rumour is true that the coach doesn’t have favourites (well, apart from his ‘favourites’...), then there is a lot of opportunity for the side to look very different in 2018. Sounds like most of the old brigade are doing everything they can to keep the youngsters at Casey, too. This can only be great for the club, for development and for our future.

  45. I actually had to carefully reword my post to ensure Balic's exclusion - but I do think there was a point in that, which relates back to your original response. Based on nothing more than my own personal inner-perceptions, I suspect that many of us may tend to periodically forget that Balic has actual exposed top-level form, which, statistically at least, was fairly impressive for a young player starting out - certainly in comparison to some of our own. Concerns over mental fortitude and a slip if fitness are most certainly valid - and shared by our own footy department (if the offered contract can be considered a gauge) - but the kid can play, and has already proven it in the top-flight - essentially by forcing his way into an established Freo line-up and notably doing so after a long period rehabbing from injury. Harley is currently a wildcard, but objectively, if he can get himself back up to speed and show some early form, he should be right there in the mix competing against some our more established younger players for a surprise spot at the beginning of 2018.
