  1. Rumor thread needs more rumors Less demonland

  2. Why are people worried about a salary of a player? I trust our club can manage the books OK. Lets worry about getting the deal done.

  3. $800k for a star CHB (who could probably swing just as well as TMac) is very good. The CBA has exploded and if that is where we can keep our best players at - we would be happy. Those worried about Petracca suddenly asking for that much - he was going to get that much anyway. If we were paying these guys Dusty Money - we might have an issue, but we aren't.

  4. Ah the normal anger/tanties that get thrown in the thread about trade rumours is bloody hilarious. I read some, think utter shite and move on. I enjoy the crazy left field "rumours". if people don't post where they heard/got the info I hold it as .01%, if they post it as I heard it from a second hand source, 1%. If they have proven good info before 10%. That way I'm not going to be annoyed if they don't come true. Makes this thread more interesting.

  5. So we offered a deal. Then the Crows countered with a similar deal. Manager told Melb, Pies and Dogs that Lever was staying. Then we offered a bigger deal that knocked Crows for six (aka BANG). Lever gone to Demons. I think that's what he meant. I have young cousins so I understand gibberish.

  6. Connors can say what he likes - he isn't Lever's manager.

  7. For all those lauding Trenners for his perseverance and commitment to the club, Jake Spencer probably deserves a small mention too, no? Sentiment shouldn't be based solely on talent. The big guy gave ten years to the club and had his career cruelled by injury also, as well as the misfortune to get stuck behind a pair of AA rucks (without seeking better opportunities). Well done Jake, and thanks for your loyal service. And for those criticising Jake for injuring himself this year, while demonstrating his commitment to the contest; seriously?

  8. Sounds like crowd matched our deal. Dad was moving to Adelaide, we offered 900k and bam! Flip flop dee's are back on top! Oh and Nixon prob sniffed a massive line before writing that.

  9. I'd find it shocking if he turned down the crazy $$$ north are offering him. You see guys like jack Trengove having injuries ending careers early. I'd take the money and run. It's a job at the end of the day

  10. well, i have mail (from 2 sources in and around the club mind you) and they are very confident Lever will be in the red and blue next season. and for those worrying about his pay and being the highest paid at the club, you need to spend some money to improve, and 800k in a couple of years wont be seen as a huge salary anyway. and who else is demanding all our money anyway??? according to some on here, we have depth issues and not enough players, so we can afford to pay him more to get him here while we are paying the younger/ less talented players less at the moment. If you dont want Lever for 800k a season in our side, i guess you are happy with us being in the middle of the ladder every year?

  12. There should be nothing but praise for these amazing gentlemen. The fact they made it to AFL level to start with is a feather in their cap. Jack and Jake did everything possible to realise their full potential and we should be extremely grateful. I'm not trying to virtue signal but I believe perspective is needed to appreciate what they gave us and the MFC. May we also get better from here as well.

  13. And we will, but it won't cost you anything to stop for a moment and acknowledge a true champion. He didn't have the accomplishments on the field that either we or he had hoped but if he doesn't personify all the great attributes of a champion I'll go hee. We all knew it was coming. He knew it was coming. The time arrives. We salute the fella and...indeed move on. Hope he always has the same soft spot for the mighty Dees as we do.

  14. Will always remembers Spencil's 3 goals against Geelong at the Cattery when we won the game. It was his best game by far.

  15. What you need to remember is we have effectively probably paid for Lever in "past payments". As long as we've paid 100% of our salary cap in previous years we would have prepaid large amounts to currently contracted players. These prepayments mean you have a war chest of money to attract players like Lever when the opportunity comes. We will probably pay him a large first year contract amount and then just put him on "a fair salary". Job done. Let's hope we paid 100% of our salary cap in past years.

  18. My favourite off season thread is really lacking this year. We need more riddles and more outrageous [censored] made up rumours. I'll start off: my vet told me we are trading Oliver for Scully

  20. I thought Jack's form prior to injury was pretty solid, particularly given that he was asked to play a significantly different role. Sure he dropped off a little on his return, but the whole team was struggling at that point. I'm not sure why Jack always seems to cop the brunt of supporter and coach abuse, when the end of season problems were far more attributable to the midfield. I see Jack as a crucial part of the team going forward, and hopefully the coach give him some love over the pre season.

  24. I feel terrible about Jack Trengove. I hope he doesn't hold it against the MFC for what happened in his career, but I don't blame him if he does. Neeld was correct in one respect when he foolishly appointed him captain....he's an outstanding citizen and a leader of men. But not of a struggling club when he was only 20 yrs old! What terrible luck to sustain the dreaded navicular injury. How hard he tried to get back! I can't help feeling it was a bit rough dropping him in 2016 , after the Saints loss. Everyone played badly, but Jack had been really good the week before. This year, he didn't do well when he got his chance, but usually promoted players get more than one chance to show their wares. He went back to VFL, and played well every week, unlike some regular AFL players, who fail to shine at VFL level. Gold Coast would be well advised to draft him for his leadership, team spirit, and football skills. There is no ex-demon I'd ever hope to play well against us, except Jack T. All the very best, Jack, and thanks for the courage and perseverance, which has been an inspiratiion to many people.

  26. I forgot that this thread was called trade facts. Mate, I'm literally passing on second hand information from AFL club staff. I don't think you've grasped the concept of this thread.

  27. I posted elsewhere. Thanks Liam, Mitch, Jake. Good luck wherever your path takes you. Trenners, a very special thankyou for your dogged determination. Thankyou for the love of the jumper. Thankyou for showing others how to apply and reapply yourself. I knew it would be a long bow getting back but you did. It hasn't panned out but not for any lack of effort. To all a thankyou. Mr Trengove , you have my utmost respect. Good luck.

  28. Sad to see Jack Trengove's career with us end like this. Cruelled by injury, still did everything and more to try and get back, but wasn't to be. We'll never know what he could have been. Hard to see any AFL club picking him up, but has leadership and footy smarts. Too early for a coaching career, and still goes OK ... player-coach at a lower league? All the best Jack.

  29. I agree. He has talent. But we are now in a situation where we must trade for better. You cannot trade players who are not up to it, you must trade Talent. It's Poker Time kelly and Lever are both what we need Salem we can trade and be ok

  32. Don't think he's lost the faith of Goody, otherwise he wouldn't have played the last game. I think he just came back to soon from his hammy - he took 2 kicks from outside 50 against GWS of only 2 steps, so had no confidence in himself. This just meant he had a poor couple of games, after a very good first half of the season. His efforts against Geelong and then Richmond were fantastic, he played himself into the ground those games. Would love to see him continue as the second ruck, just to make sure he's involved all the time, and when not doing the relieve ruck play similar to Tom Lynch from Adelaide, making the connection between Def50 and Fwd50, while if feeling he has a mismatch run further forward and see if he can pick up a couple of quick goals. I don't think tying him to a forward pocket or half forward flank is the best option for Watts, he's smart enough uses the ball well enough to let him roam with a view to create as many scoring opportunities as possible.

  33. Interesting opinions on Demonland and I'll add to the list. Firstly to Poita - you are aware that VDB has never been dropped since he came to the club and has been a key player in almost all of our big wins - v Richmond in 2015 and v Hawthorn in 2016 - missed the Cats game of 2015 with injury. If he's fit, he's in our 2018 side. Spencer was hardly disappointing. He showed amazing character to come back from one of the most embarrassing debuts ever when he stubbed his toe shooting for goal and the ball dribbled about five feet. His game against St Kilda, about five years ago now, showed that even with his ungainly (another way of saying uncoordinated) frame, he could contribute and his hit on Big Boy McEvoy was one of the best hip and shoulders I've seen. He was unlucky this year when in some great form he got injured against Richmond and I think his poor form in VFL finals this season was reflective of him already being told to shop around for next year. Trenners was always a team player and that's what excited us in his first two years but he always had pace issues - his sister is a marathoner after all. He's a great bloke and if he's interested in staying in Melbourne then I hope we offer him the Casey captaincy for next year. Maybe even try and lure Jack Grimes back to Casey and make them co-captains - now that would be a nice story! White was a lovely bogan in black socks at training with a beautiful left boot but like Trenners, and so many players these days, not blessed with quite enough speed to make it. Hulett was one of the best kicks we've ever seen, but also struggled for pace and even more crucially for a forward, he didn't have a leap. He also is reflective of the old era when big power forwards were the rage - nowadays they have to have an explosive lead as well to have any chance. He looked the part in his first pre-season - many of us were beguiled, like Tubby Taylor, by his natural ball skills and strong physique. Clearly, along with our Weid choice, Taylor made a misjudgement of where bigs were going in the game - he's not the only recruiting officer to have erred on that one and his meal ticket still lives on his No.4 pick of 2015. I am not sure of what is going on with Kennedy, but I suspect Adelaide are considering him and won't comment officially until after the season - quite understandable on their part if that's the case.

  34. I'm happy for a difference of opinion but you need to have a basis for it. The players weren't developed well in the past but the calibre of the kids we have and how quickly they are developing in the last few years would be the envy of most clubs. In conjunction with this you have also seen more experienced players get better also. If we take your thinking Gawn would have been delisted after his 2nd year. Hunt and Jetta said to say hello and thanks for not being the list manager when they were recruited.

  35. Different circumstance and traits have allowed Curnow to show 'more' than Weideman at this stage. I don't know why that's so difficult to see. If you were to ask anyone at the club, they'd say the same thing and I'm sure they would have expected to see Curnow play more regular footy than Weed early on. Context is everything in this argument. Weideman will be much better placed to play more regular football next year but I don't think we'll see big inroads made until 2019 from Sam.

  36. Petracca didn't make the team as he was classified as a midfielder, despite playing 90% of the year at half forward. As a forward he walks it it; as a mid, not so much...

  43. I concur with most others above. A very sad day when any AFL listed player is told there's no longer a place for them on the list. I, too, wish them all the very best for the future. Especially sad for Trenners. But, given his character, he will no doubt get on with life, and make a meaningful contribution in whatever his next endeavor will be.

  46. Paul Connors spoke at an Old Xavs golf day yesterday and said Lever will be a Demon, and he will be the highest paid player at the club. He also specifically mentioned that it is a very interesting move as he manages Petracca who, next year, might be asking for similar money.
