  1. Well, I didn't realise he was given the nickname 'Chimp' at Collingwood. Say what you like about Lumumba being a bit pretentious and precious, but that is f'n awful. I mean this is pretty basic stuff, not complicated. Even Collingwood people should be able to get that far.

  2. Perhaps he could also school him on taking a man on in his back half, getting done for dropping the ball 40 meters out and then compounding his error (after his man missed the goal) giving away a silly 50 and giving up a gimme goal. How much did they lose by? Oh that's right 3 points. Just imagine the response from some if the whipping boy had made those errors and cost us a game?

  4. AFL should stay out of the blackball game An excellent article from Chip Le Grand writing in the Weekend Australian about the suggestion that broadcasters should lose their accreditation if they broadcast false information. AFL boss Gillon McLachlan told Neil Mitchell on radio this week that he thought "it is worth looking at." This came in the wake of allegations about Ross Lyon's interest in the Collingwood coaching job made by 6PR broadcaster Brad Hardie which incensed Nathan Buckley. Lyon denied the claim calling it erroneous, reckless and without foundation. Le Grand raises a number of good points as to why it's not such a good idea to bring in such a ban, the first being that the AFL is not qualified to be an arbiter of what is true and false in football. While Hardie is no journalist, Lyon's denial doesn't necessarily mean that he made the story up. Further, people in the media are held to account by the media companies and by legal restrictions on what can be reported. Le Grand: "If the AFL had its way, many important football stories would never be published. In this, they are no different from governments and large corporations. Yet, as far as we know, they are the only Australian organisation proposing to blackball journalists for what they write." I empathise with what Le Grand tells us here. From time to time, I review stories given to this site. I once fact checked a number of sources about a particular story all the way to as close as possible to its original source and found it to be conclusive. That didn't stop those who had an interest in suppressing the facts from criticism (which is always acceptable) but it also went further into the realm of abuse and personal attacks. Often when that happens, you know you've got the story right.

  6. Harry was just against all that corporate uniformity and the destructive negativity . He was Ok doing the Pepsi commercial but after he pocketed the cash from that he began to think of himself as a champion of the downtrodden . live long enough and life will make hypocrites of us all. Harry achieved his hypocrisy quickly. The world has become full of those who would like to demonise others in an effort to display their spiritual purity. How they embarrass themselves so.

  10. My thoughts watching the game Watts - maybe we need to play him on the wing? Whenever he was on the ball he was outstanding when he was in the forward 50 he looked annoyed and disinterested at times. It is a wet game but when he was around the ball it looked dry. Just so clean with the ball and showed why he is far beyond this level. End of the game he went back to the backline and controlled the ball. 20 touches 12 marks. "If I get done for that..." Speaks so well and loves the tem. Bugg - Just got better as the game went on. He'll have a huge week for us next week in the 2's and hopefully with Salem will help us win in the first week of VFL (and AFL?) finals. The stats will come out and have no doubt it will have a heap of it. The thing it wont have is the 5 odd almost disposals in the first quarter which wont be counted. 24 touches and 12 tackles. 18 contested possessions. Weid - Some decent delivery and he would be in the conversation. He did everything we know he can. Kicked beautifully, led strongly at the ball and took some good marks, tackled hard, went missing. He looked like the most talented player on the field at times. Frost - above and beyond the level. He is so strong, reads the play well. Didnt take it on as much this game. He defended well, and showed a really good leaders game. He looked like a captain at times. Keilty - why did we ever play him forward? He was really strong in the air, read the ball really well. Needs better disposal to make me not want Lever. He is exactly what Dunn and Garland gave us last year. JKH - stats are going to be awesome but dont be fooled. He'll be unhappy with his polish. Really good application but didnt have the polish that he can have. In and around the contest but a lot of his tackles werent game saving. Buggs were. King - better as the game went on. killed in the first and looked better and better. Doing not enough around the ground but looks good in the ruck. Trenners - held really well after quarter time. Did some nice things in the last. Not his best game but it was a Grimes like game. Hulett - a couple of good goals, I'd like to see him on the rookie list as I think there is something there. We need to work out how to get him into the game more. Maynard - A little like Oliver. I could say that I didnt see him much with the ball but easily could have 20+ possies. He is going to get there, I just wish he was 19 not 25. He does look like he is a year away from being a good AFL player. He reminds me a lot of AVB and whilst they play different roles, they have a similar hunger for the contest.

  11. What rubbish. 20 disposals and 12 marks 4 of them inside 50 I think) and a few shots on goal. Can't kick it as long it seems due to the hammy though. But played all over the ground and easily the best ball user out there today. Also, that report was the softest thing I've ever seen. As he said on the interview at the end of the game "if I get done for that..."

  13. A myth Round 1 - 30 pt Win v Saints - Hogan 21 disposals, 8 marks, 3 goals Round 2 - 22 pt Win v Blues - Hogan 22 disposals, 10 marks Suspended Round 5 - 11 point loss to Tigers - Hogan 11 disposals, 3 goals - Tigers only beat us as we were two men down Jesses father passes away Round 7 - 3 point loss to Hawks - Hogan 16 disposals, 4 marks, 3 goals Diagnosed with his illness Round 16 - 18 point win vs Blues - Hogan 10 disposals, 4 marks, 1 goal Round 17 - 46 point loss to Crows - Hogan 11 disposals, 7 marks Round 18 - 23 point win vs Power - Hogan 23 disposals, 5 marks, 3 goals Round 19 - 4 point loss vs North - Hogan 11 disposals, 2 marks, 1 goal - injured during game Hes played 8 games, our record is 4-4. THe RIchmond loss was unlucky, and we would have beat North if he didnt get injured. He was dominant in 3 games. He started strong vs Kangas before breaking collarbone. He was understandably rusty for a couple of games coming back from his illness. Hes had the most interrupted season you will ever see from any player for so many different reasons. We are much better when hes in the team and you're right, he is incredibly valuable.

  14. Some absolute dribble from both sides of the argument in this thread. Only a handful of reasonable posters are on top of it. He was in poor form and lacked the intensity that the team is expected to carry out as a whole. So he goes back to Casey to recapture it and hopefully comes back fit and firing by finals time. It really is as simple as that.

  17. Looks like Essendrug will play finals. Proves the were barely punished for the drug cheating regime. They should have been out of the finals for 5 years minimum. But they were allowed to keep their top picks, got handed the easiest draw despite all their returning players, and were allowed to keep their top up players like Tipungwiti who no other club access to as he was never in a draft. [censored] you AFL.

  18. Great news! Has really embedded himself as a regular 22. In the top 3 in the league for forward pressure acts! He is also very unselfish, doesn't try to be the hero and actively looks for teammates rather than bomb away at goals. Epitomises 'team first' football. Reckon he would be a favourite with both coaches and teammates and increasingly with fans.

  21. 20 touches, and 12 marks for a CHF... feel like he has to work 50% harder than everyone else to get recognition. It seems like it's between Watts and Hannan at the moment. Hannan has been missing for large sections of game time recently, if he has sub 10 touches again tomorrow then it's a no brainer for me.

  24. As far as I can tell, if we win both games: We finish 7th - to finish any higher requires Port or Richmond to lose both games. Given Port has GC next week and Richmond has Fremantle this week, that is extremely unlikely. If we finish 7th, our opponent almost entirely depends on the WB-Port game - if Port lose it, they'll likely finish 6th, but if they win, then they could pass Sydney on percentage and finish 5th, pushing Sydney to 6th (assuming both then win next week). If Richmond lose one of their two remaining games, then they can finish 6th and host us in the first final. If we only win one game: We can't finish higher than 8th and our chance of finishing 8th hinges almost entirely on Port-WB - a Port win makes it much more likely we finish 8th. If the Dogs win, though, then we need West Coast to lose both games (GWS/Adelaide) and we need Essendon to either lose one of their last two or, alternatively, we need to beat Essendon's percentage. If Essendon wins both games, though, that becomes unlikely (we'll have to have a massive win and then a tiny loss). If we finish 8th we're likely to get Port (as in all likelihood Port will have beaten the Dogs today). If we get through by beating Essendon on percentage, we can end up with Sydney (i.e. Port lose to the Dogs and slip to 7th).

  25. Actually that's not correct. Mills never went back behind his mark, which means Betts had every right to tackle him. You can't even claim Betts came from behind because Betts was actually standing on the mark adder Mills wandered forward. There were only two justifiable decisions, play on (thus holding the ball) or stopping play and bringing Mills back behind his own mark. The idea that a player can mark the ball, keep walking forward but it not be play on until the umpire calls play on is not represented in the rules. IF Mills went back behind his mark first then no problems with the umpire having to call play on before the tackle could be laid. But that isnt what happened.

  26. I'm watching a reply of last night's AFL 360. David King was just discussing the 'evenness' of the ruckman this year, and said that McEvoy is probably leading the pack. He then said, for the 8 games that Cam Pedersen rucked solo, Champion Data had him as clearly the number one ruckman in the competition. He's a 193cm utility. The guy is a legend. He's all heart. So pleased (and relieved) he's had the season he's had, both for himself and the club. His performances have been absolutely critical for us. No doubt there'll be a lot of silence from those posters who authoratively proclaimed him to be a list clogger and nothing more than a VFL player. They've obviously been absolutely wrong though - his contributions have kept our season alive. Pleasingly, the football department has acknowledged this through extending his contract. I just wish he played a few more games earlier in the season. Perhaps we'd now be pushing for the top 4? Well done Cam. Hats off to you. A true Demon.

  27. Cam has been re- ontracted for another year. http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2017-08-18/big-men-sign-on-for-2018-season He is a great example of a player who took on board coaches feedback and worked hard to get the best of himself. That he has been so willing to do any role the team needed him to play has been a real asset to our club. I doubt we would be on the verge of finals if he had not risen to the occasion. Delighted he is staying with us. Congratulations, Cam. #Lovepedobear

  32. of the dees i would say: watts: an almost game, has amazing skill and balance but lacks hunger for the contest and was good early, went missing when tippett went onto him, better up and around the ball and then in the last when he got fired up by being reported; he's too often too lackadaisical at the contest trengove: classic good honest footballer who just butters up time and time again, but is clearly too slow for a 25 year old afl-listed player and his kicking has zero penetration frost: controlled it defensively, used it well offensively, didn't try to take the oppo on too often (did it early and got away with it, did it once late, got caught), and is basically a class above this level jkh: he's a massive accumulator of the pill but he's just not nearly damaging enough with it - can play well at this level but doesn't have any outstanding attributes that make him look like an afl-level player weideman: i am an unabashed fan, but it was just a game, albeit in very trying conditions for a marking tall - love the way he flies at the contest and missed set shot aside his kicking is superb, and he loves to tackle hullett: a big lug who doesn't seem to know how to throw himself at the contest, but he is a ripper kick of the ball from a set shot bugg: starved of opportunity early playing half-forward push-up, but once he got up and around the pill he was super busy and is a more likely afl option than jkh for instance king: was monstered early but they changed his attack at the ball at the ruck contests after quarter time and he was significantly better in the ruck as a result - his skills are good and he's another big who loves to tackle which is something you can't teach keilty: just looks so comfortable down back and so able to control the high ball coming in - there's a lot to like about him and he adds terrific defensive tall depth to our list maynard: in-and-under specialist who extracts it well but he does have a tendency to bang it on the boot and not look at where he's kicking it - his hands are great in close and i agree with @Dee-licious where it looks like he'll be a bit like avb and be a good plug-and-play type

  33. My thoughts so far: Watts - Strong first quarter, Tippett stopped him in the first half of the second, and when he went up the ground late in the second we looked so much better. Will be playing next week against the Pies. 7 touches. Keilty - Will be on our senior list at the end of next year. Very composed. Not ready yet for AFL but will be important back up for us in case something bad happens. Frost - Could easily come back next week but I dont think he has a match up against Collingwood. 9 touches. Weid - Gee he can take a mark. When he is in the game he is impressive. Then you dont see him for 10 minutes at a time. I'm looking forward to seeing him Round 1 for the Dees as he clearly has all the components to be a 200+ game player, it is just a time question. His tackling is outstanding. Bugg - Almost game. Almost breaking through packs - almost breaking the game open, almost taking possession. 9 touches. Trenners - 1 touch that quarter. Assuming tagged out of it? Didnt see much of him at all. Maynard - Looks a little behind the pace which is odd considering he is coming back to this level. He's had 11 but I dont think many have been effective. Looks like he could be a serious player in another 12 months. JKH - Bar that last goal, he really hasnt had an impact. Maybe 6 touches? King - Meese has had 50 hit outs and Watts played more on the ball in the second half and Weid went to the ruck at times. Hulett - Just is not having the same impact he had last year. I wonder if he will be rookied? He can kick a goal, has been crueled by injury this year and he should have just played forward all year (same with Keilty should have played back). I think he is worth hanging on to. Fritch - hasnt had much of a game today sadly. Such a good player but hasnt had an impact....yet....

  35. Great opportunity for the Demons tomorrow to win heavily against one of the bottom teams who traditionally don't do that well in Melb mid winter outdoors! If we could have a big win aside from pushing us one week closer to a finals spot, could also start to build some momentum for a decent crack at winning a final. Plus games into Jones, Hogan, Brayshaw & Vince after injuries & suspensions will be a plus. Putting pressure on Watts, Salem, Bugg & co to really fight for a spot in the team. Re Lynch, there a good, bad & delusional commentators, he's obviously had too much sun living up North! Go Dees, don't screw up & we have & know how, but go out & win by ten G's tomorrow!

  37. The only sensible thing to do is start pulling down statues. I can see no other remedy but to erase human history and begin again afresh. That way we can all live in the belief that we are good and " right". We can use violence against those we even suspect might "hate".Violence is justified against "haters". Are you all with me?? Lets go find the haters and stop them now!! Chaaaaargggge!!!!!!!!!!!!! "let's get 'em"!!!!

  38. He left a sour taste at Collingwood and the same at the Dees. I was a fan but really didn't like how he messed us around for 6 months and left us a player short on our list this year. I wonder what criticisms are in store for us and our doctors in his doco? I won't be watching.

  40. You have to keep in mind that Lynch will always stick up for Brisbane, and when they're the 18th placed side I think it's okay to afford him that luxury. Lynch's argument was that Brisbane's top liners in the midfield were at least the equal of Melbourne's or arguably better. To illustrate he asked Roos to name Melbourne's best midfielder, to which he eventually said Jones. Lynch responded with Beams being Brisbane's best. Straight off the bat you can see that he has a point. I love Jonesy but when he's named as the best midfielder you're not off to the most intimidating start. Brisbane's trio of Beams, Zorko amd Rockliff is elite. It is at least the equal of Jones, Viney and Oliver. To that extent Lynch has a point. Melbourne however has a better spread of talent through the midfield which is partly why they sit 11 spots higher on the ladder. Ultimately though it was just banter between two good mates. It was no doubt a rehash of discussions they've previously had off air.

  41. Ok, if we happen to meet the Swans in the finals so be it. Honestly, after all this time it would be great to just get some September action. We haven't met the Swans in a final since 1987 when we obliterated them (against all odds) Bring it.

  42. Another of Jacks faults. He would lead the team in dropping uncontested marks. Maybe that's why his team mates often ignore him. Such a shame, as he has some wonderful abilities. One of the best kicks I have ever seen. He simply does not enjoy the physical side of the game, and that will never be good enough in a high pressure final. Can you imagine how he would fare against the manic pressure and physicality of Sydney in a final? Seems like a ripping bloke, and I still think he is mentally resilient, but I worry for his future if he cannot regain his touch of mid year.
