Goal sneak ready to go for Demons Goody: "It's a big day for our footy club from an indigenous perspective. It's the first time we'll wear our indigenous jumper at the MCG, so for Jeff to be a part of that is just terrific."12 points

Trengove selection makes sense. Why bring in a guy, that went through all he has in the past few years with confidence issues stemming from early captaincy and injuries, when half the side (and most of the midfield) are out of the team? Basically throwing him to the wolfs again with his career on the line. He'd have the limelight completely on him, with expectations that he'd have to carry the midfield in his first game back. I've got no doubt Goodwin's wanted him in the side the past few weeks. Goodwin noted "he's been in terrific form". I believe the past few weeks Goodwin's had to throw the lines in about Trengove being close and having to "work on things" as an excuse to avoid the real reason for Trengove's absence during the past few weeks of injuries to the team. This week in fact is the best possible time for Trengove to come in. We have our A grade midfielders back, which takes away the spotlight and reliance on Jack to HAVE to have a good game. This takes so much pressure off of him. Now he comes in knowing he doesn't have to be the star or the leader, but just play his role and be part of the group. No doubt he'll still be playing for a new contract, but this way the circumstances are tailored in his favour. Absolutely the right call by Goodwin and co.9 points

Just read Goody's presser (on the MFC twitter feed) and he's said that Jeffy flew back in yesterday and is good to go tomorrow!8 points

Fair Dinkum? So sick of the tripe some of our very own have been dishing out recently. We are finally the mongrel team and the serial complainers who hate their own Lives can't wait to post their habitual drivel on social media. Very clever in bringing in the big guns and commence our challenge up the Col De Finals. We have kept in touch with the peloton despite some falls in the early stages. Time to Do some serious damage to the rest of the pretenders!8 points

5 games in 3 years, wow. Makes you realise the challenges for him mentally to never give in, huge respect for the lad.8 points

Demonland's dark web (aka the General forum) is a very, very scary place. It is land of pseudo science, rejection of logic, anger, angst and dividing everything in a neat left - right binary (with the mean crazy lefties waging their PC war against the real hard done by minorities - middle class, older white men who want things to go back to how they used to be). It is remarkably similar to the comments section in the Hun. Go there are your own peril.7 points

And just one other comment. While he appeared to struggle to hold his marks, no other Melbourne player took more marks last week than Jesse Hogan. (7, equal with Hunt and two more than any other Melbourne player). I hope he'll move up another gear tomorrow.7 points

If we lose, but Viney, Watts, Salem and Tyson get through unscathed and get needed miles into their legs then that isn't the worst result. Hooefully Viney's foot will improve with each week too.7 points

Absolutely over the moon that Jack Trengove is back in the side! Proved a few doubters here wrong! All the hard work down at Casey has paid off! I hope he plays an absolute blinder! I personally wish Jack Trengove all the best! Hopefully there is a HUGE applause when Jack Trengove gets on to the MCG! GOOD LUCK JACK!!! WE BELIEVE IN YOU!!!6 points

I am about as stiff as a rocket and ready to fly to the moon right now. Welcome back Jack, Jack, Jack, Christian and Dom. Always hate going up against Port, we are sporting the strongest team we have played in weeks...Probably since the Dogs game. That forward line makes me moister than an oyster. Between T-Mac, Garlett, Watts, Petracca and Hogan I think I could be forgiven for expecting at least 15 goals this game. Port are a good team but I have held them in the same light as Richmond all season, pretenders who are 2 of the most fraudulent top 4 teams I have ever witnessed...They've had a golden run with injuries and haven't been convincing against any sides worth their salt. If we come out of the blocks the same way we did against the Dogs then we will run all over them. I am kind of optimistic about this one after last week and would love to see Hogan continue his form from the second half of last week. (Wouldn't mind him kicking straight) Go Demons!6 points

Outside of jakovich, jurrah is the most talented player I have seen pull on the jumper it's just a shame not only for the MFC But for the whole competition that we didn't get to see these players for very long6 points

Even last year when he was dropped still pulled in 19 disposals, 5 tackles and 6 clearances. Not mind blowing stats but not exactly poor either. He unarguably outperformed guys like Oliver, Harmes and Bugg but was still dropped. I think the pace issues or overblown on here. At worst Jack will give it his all and win a share of contested ball and lay a bunch of hard tackles. Whether he is in the plans or not long term shouldn't effect how he is judged on his match day performance. If he does his part and wins some hard ball and puts in defensively that's all I'd ask. Best of luck Jack!5 points

Hell Bent, I was at training yesterday and you are correct with your assessment. However, Viney has said all along that if he played this week it would be with discomfort. I expect that the pain killers will be wheeled out tomorrow and they probably weren't present yesterday (or not to the same degree). Maybe Webber can opine further. In any event, this is not a situation where he can do further damage - it's about Jack and the fitness staff believing he can achieve what he needs to in terms of agility, power and pace. The discomfort piece can and will be managed, not the least bit by Jack's enormous mental strength and determination.5 points

I'd like to think (dream) that playing with better players around him than he plays with at VFL level will enhance his game. Those old enough to remember Robert Flower will recall that he starred playing with Melbourne - but went up a level or two when playing for Victoria.5 points

The weakness of the club in defending its players - not the players actions per se - is galling. Even a murderer gets a defence yet we roll over and throw ourselves at the mercy of the MRP. Good luck with that. Bugg was treated like a leper and didn't deserve that. No-one went into bat for Bugg as a good bloke who stuffed up. It was frankly appalling. Our counsel, Findlay, didn't even try to argue a case for a reduced sentence based on precedent and the fact he had never been reported before. Vince is the same, no one from the club went into bat for Bernie, The club didn't argue insufficient force, intent or relativity to other incidents involving Melbourne players such as: Oliver getting elbowed from Schofield Hannan getting elbowed from Zak Jones and not even being cited Vince himself being punched in the guts that forced him to throw up on the boundary line and miss 11 minutes of the quarter. The club has got a lot of things right but the only tribunal hearing I can recall where they argued hard was Jack Vineys appeal. They need to review their set up for defending players pronto and they need to be way more public in their defence of their players. Its so freaking obvious the MRP is biased and that noise in the media dictates what sanctions get handed out. Cotchin and Martin are two prime examples. Brad Scott immediately went on the offensive when defending Cunnington over his hit on Vince, Where the hell are we?5 points

Three Jacks coming into the team, good. Our Jack quotient has been down for a while, and that's been a problem.5 points

I can see this going one of two ways 1. We lose and we have the excuse of bringing too many players back from extended periods on the sidelines all at once. 2. We win and all the players that came back hit the deck running and we can now see how dangerous we r as a side. Personally I like option two.5 points

For the love of god ProDee change ur pic. Cant stand seeing it as it makes me want to vomit.5 points

to be honest I'm glad to see Smith and Wagner out. provides a better balance to the side, and makes it more likely that they can fit T-Mac in the back half if required. Good to see ANB, Harmes and Hannan retained despite all the midfielders coming back too - they all have a bit of zip and grunt and I would prefer us to go in too heavy in that department than not! I'm dreaming of a 25+ 2 goal game from Tenners. He was an absolute Jet before his injury troubles.5 points

Under the circumstances, i.e. a bereavement in his family, there is NO way the club would have selected Garlett if he wasn't playing.5 points

I watched footage of a couple of his run-throughs and couldn't determine which was the sore foot. Funny thing observer bias, you'll see a limp if you think there should be one. Try looking at the footage and see if you can name the dodgy foot. Either way, with an extra two days, expected levels of adrenaline, and the relatively conservative returns other players have had this year, I'm backing Jack and the rehab/fitness staff to have got it right.4 points

Doc "Jack, have you been playing sore and not telling us?" Viney "Nah, mate. Why do you ask?" Doc "Because your leg fell off 20 mins into the 1st q" Viney "Aww, it's alright. It will grow back" Doc "No it won't" Viney "It's OK. I ripped Ollies leg off in the 2nd and have it in my kit just in case. He seems to kick all right, so I can run out the game OK"4 points

I'd start T Mac in defence tomorrow on Dixon, with the inclusion of Watts. O Mac and Frost can take Westhoff and Trengove. Best defender on best forward. I don't want things to get out of control like they did V's North when Ben Brown was running amok while T Mac was getting cold up the other end.4 points

This was great, well done to the boys for the podcast. First one I've listened to and will again. Whatevers people thoughts are on Beamer, it's impossible to argue the fact he genuinely loved the dees and clearly sad to leave. Great insight on the podcast when the original trade was discussed and he chose the dees without blinking it seems. Ill always have a soft spot for him.4 points
