Just back from training. Salient points: - Viney did a series of run throughs with the fitness staff, initally in track shoes and then changes to his trusted Puma boots (with orthopedic inserts. He then joined in main training and participated fully. Didn't look to be restricted. - Salem, Watts and Tyson all participated fully and didn't show any signs of being hindered - Jones participated fully from the start but I didn't see him kick with his right leg (not to say he didn't, but I didn't observe it) - Bugg is back from time away from the club and participated in training (as did Vince) - Brayshaw has seemingly adopted the head protection gear and looks set to resume - no sign of Kent, Van den Berg, Garland or McKenna. Filipovic was doing ruck skillwork with Daniel Cross and Gref Stafford The main training session saw an intense focus on contested work.16 points

Just back from training. Viney did extensive testing with Crossy and then joined the main group and looked fine. I'd be amazed if he didn't play. Watts, Tyson and Salem with the main group from the start. Word was that Garlett won't play. He wasn't at training today. It's speculation only. We were asked to leave today (which I did). First time that has happened. Nothing out of the ordinary happened whilst I was there, usual drills - agility, ball handling and movement inside 50.13 points

Trengove selection makes sense. Why bring in a guy, that went through all he has in the past few years with confidence issues stemming from early captaincy and injuries, when half the side (and most of the midfield) are out of the team? Basically throwing him to the wolfs again with his career on the line. He'd have the limelight completely on him, with expectations that he'd have to carry the midfield in his first game back. I've got no doubt Goodwin's wanted him in the side the past few weeks. Goodwin noted "he's been in terrific form". I believe the past few weeks Goodwin's had to throw the lines in about Trengove being close and having to "work on things" as an excuse to avoid the real reason for Trengove's absence during the past few weeks of injuries to the team. This week in fact is the best possible time for Trengove to come in. We have our A grade midfielders back, which takes away the spotlight and reliance on Jack to HAVE to have a good game. This takes so much pressure off of him. Now he comes in knowing he doesn't have to be the star or the leader, but just play his role and be part of the group. No doubt he'll still be playing for a new contract, but this way the circumstances are tailored in his favour. Absolutely the right call by Goodwin and co.12 points

Very happy with this, I admit I'm a tragic, and spew every time someone calls footy a business, but 3 jacks in your hand, is a strong hand!12 points

Timed to perfection to give radio callers every where a headache calling between Jack and Jackson Trengove.10 points

I'd love to see him play out the year and lock in a new contract. Well done trenners10 points

Wow we keep Garlett and regain some massive names!!!!!!!!!!!!9 points

There was reportedly one odd bloke there with a beard who seemed somewhat suspicious following Neville around on his scooter.9 points

5 games in 3 years, wow. Makes you realise the challenges for him mentally to never give in, huge respect for the lad.8 points

In terms of pure class we have 5 draft picks taken at 3 or higher. Viney being clearly one if not taken as a father son. In terms of game fitness they have all played well this year. The feeling in the dressing room will be confident. The best ins in one week in history.8 points

Last time i saw us win live, from memory Beamer was still playing for us. (That was against Essendon ages ago) Im overdue to see another win. Got tickets to see this one with my daughter, so im naturally pumped with our ins. Bring it Dees. WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO8 points

On first reading this http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2017-07-19/club-reconciliation-action-plan-launched I wasn't to sure what to make of it or what it really meant. But when I read this http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/liam-jurrah-back-in-demon-fold-20170719-gxei8e.html about Liam Jurrah, I got it. Its really good to hear Liam is getting his life back together again. And, kudos to Peter Jackson, Neville Jetta et al for getting this program going. It is substantive and not mere tokenism. And how good is it to see "Jurrah, who hails from Yuendumu, a remote indigenous community in the Northern Territory, joined former teammates Austin Wonaeamirri and Aaron Davey at the RAP launch, with current indigenous players Neville Jetta and Dion Johnstone also in attendance". (I think Jeffy wasn't there because he was back in WA) Those guys have given us so many exciting times and still more to come from Jet, Jeffy and Dion. Edit 1: Melbourne will wear its Indigenous guernsey, designed by artist Mandy Nicholson, for the first time on the ‘G this weekend. http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2017-07-19/jetta-a-man-for-all-people That article is a great tribute to Jetta. Jetta the player, the family man, the leader, the much loved Demon Champ! Edit 2: Fab pics! http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2017-07-19/gallery-reconciliation-action-plan-launch7 points

Can we sneak Jurrah into the forward pocket. how good would we be with the Jurrahcane up and firing now. Liam Jurrahs demise was a sad moment and talent unfulfilled.7 points

Not far off our best team...... but many underdone. Jones, Vince missing from our best 2017 team. Perhaps a couple of others like Brayshaw could put their hand up on potential curled by injury.... but as far as 2017 goes probably only two short.7 points

Stoked for him. What a fairytale it would be if he played great , stayed in the team and ran out for the Red and Blue in the finals. He deserves it. if that happens he will get a nice contract extension too. Edit - I just copied almost exactly what Abe said, I hadn't seen his post though, promise.7 points

Sam McClure reported that Trenners will be in this week. Seems like he maybe playing Vinces role7 points

Are you talking about the MFC in particular or Australia in general? Because if it's the former I agree but if it's the latter I don't know what planet you've been living on.7 points

Jack Watts plays his 150th game this weekend. In so many ways it has been a tough road. Jack, along with Jonesy and Maxy who have also done the hard yards for so long, you really deserve to be holding the premiership cup one day. In the meantime, I just want to say: 'thanks for sticking with us through the tough times, enjoy your 150th and hope the team win it with you on Saturday'.7 points

Viney will be playing in pain, Tyson, Salem and Watts are coming off injury and Trengove hasn't played for 12 months. I'm happy with the inclusions but we are facing an in-form Port Adelaide who have almost no injuries.6 points

I'll be really happy if he snags himself a position. Cindarella story if we get to finals with JT picked.6 points

Very happy for Jack, I was worried he'd go the whole year and not make it out on the G again. I'm thinking that Jack will move into Lewis/Vince's role as a half back general sort of thing and Lewis may move into Vince's role as a tagger. Salem will be back in the half back line as well for some class and we've got to Hunt and Frost to break the lines. Really looking forward to seeing him out there again, would love him to snag a goal and seeing him arm in arm singing the song at the end. Along with Watts and Jones I don't know that there's anyone that deserves to see success for Melbourne.6 points

Well that's the best possible result. Garlett has been named and we regain Salem, Watts, Viney and Tyson. Best of luck to Trenners as well!6 points

After 11 years of no September I'd rather play our first final at the MCG rather than Spotless Stadium, but that may just be me.6 points

Thread is a ray of sunshine on otherwise dull day thanks all. Tyson, Watts, Viney & Salem. Gods - give me three of the four 'n I promise I'll be at church Sundie.6 points

If he's named he is playing. Psychologists all agree the best way to beat grief is by kicking multiple goals for the MFC.5 points

Great! I really like Jack as a person and club man and desperately want him to succeed given his absolutely rotten luck with injuries. Anyway my hope is he takes the handful of games left this year to remake his career and doesn't leave himself and us wondering.5 points

Just saw we are wearing the indigenous jumper on the G for the first time. I like it. Nev will be a very proud Demon this week with all the work hes put in with RAP. Just hope Jeff gets back to play in it as well. Will be a special moment for the Wurundjeri people and the footy club5 points

So Pro, as some random white dude, you think you know better than the entire indigenous crew who've recently played for our club and have spent months putting the RAP together...? Ok. Maybe we we could all "abandon reconciliation" and move to your as yet defined progressive fantasy land. "Offering" a contrarian "progressive" view that allows you to denigrate the work done to progress the reconciliation agenda at the club and broader community says more about your need for attention than it does about the flaws in reconciliation. It's not about you. Try this... http://www.australia.gov.au/about-australia/australian-story/reconciliation5 points

As an aside, isn't it nice to be well into July and still be firmly focused on the season ahead. Usually by now, our season is over and the board is dominated with threads on who to delist, who to trade for, who we can get with our picks... etc5 points

Every single game we play for the rest of this year will be bigger than any other we have played since 2006.5 points
