  2. Stop worrying Red And Blue.I am on speaking terms with Christian's dad who owns a restaurant in Brighton.Last Saturday morning Alex drove past as I was walking my dog.He stopped, wound down the window and yelled " Go the Dees".The family go to training and Casey as well.So I am positive Christian will re-sign.( his dad used to barrack for the Bombers!)

  3. Training at this stage. I think he will play VFL in about 4 weeks and then AFL shortly after. Might be the real X factor come finals time. Jetta had similar concussion issues a couple of years back, had a break and hasnt had another incident since. Lets hope brayshaw has the same outcome

  5. We are the number one side for pressure acts in the competition and the 3 main contributors are Viney, Oliver and ANB - I can't see Nibbler being dropped any time soon for this reason,

  8. Out: Jones In: Gawn Easy as that I think. Misson says he expects Watts, Hunt and Jetta to all get up. No mention at all of Hibberd - where has that talk come from? Bummed about Jones though. That's interfered with my mood more than any injury has this year including Hogan. Not because he's the best player but because he's not supposed to break, feels like it's upset the universe a bit.

  9. It would be a little bit awkward for Bartel to suspend Selwood then play golf with him during the week.

  10. I am amazed off a second 6 day break on the longest plane trip to play on the longest ground we will play the same side aside from Gawn in and Jones out. I expect 3 changes purely to rest bodies in prep for Sydney the following week and just due to the differing conditions.

  12. Agree both, Clint. Johnson was a great player, but can't hide his dogginess. BTW, did you enjoy Dom Tyson's goal on Sunday? Hit it bang on the 50 metre line, landed it by my rough count 7 rows back. So what, 60-65 metres? Makes him comfortably one of the longest kicks at the club I'd reckon. Whaddya say? Oh, no tail wind either ?

  13. Worrying players will leave is so 2012. Why would any player want to leave now? Madness.

  14. Youd be better off with NO ex footy players on it at all.

  15. It needs to be a completely independent body. At the moment it's just mates looking after mates. They rarely suspend the big name players however justify their position by suspending the lesser known players. Yesterday's MRP is the perfect example of this.

  16. Went on Saturday and was extremely pleased with the Casey performance, best game of VFL footy of the year and was a high quality contest all night which was as close to an AFL game intensity that you will get. JKH - Was great in tight at the contest, he is playing as an inside mid where he is racking up the possessions Bit like ANB last year where he struggled when asked to change his role when promoted to AFL, not a big runner so Subiaco might not suit this week. Spencer - When he was in the ruck we had the upper hand in the clearances, struggled to impact the game outside the clearances though. King - When in the ruck against Tom Campbell was taught a lesson, he got his hands to a couple of big pack marks that would have turned his OK game to a good game if he had managed to hold them. Building and happy with progress overall. White - Another great game from Mitch, plays well in the zone defense scheme and has a weapon with his left foot kicks. There is no spot for him at the moment with our half backs playing well, but I would be very comfortable in being brought into the AFL team. Wagner - Another solid game with moments of class, Casey have 2 AFL quality half backs which one of the reasons the Casey have now 4 in a row. Maynard - Playing very well and consistently every week only interrupted by his concussion, playing purely as a inside mid which is a very competitive spot on the senior list. Might need to find some other positions to have a crack a game in the AFL in the short term. Johnstone - Struggled to have much impact after pushing onto the wing, when he did get the ball he produced some classy moments and put some signature pressure on the opposition. Stretch - Loved that he was able to showcase some of his class in contested situations, chance to come in from the performance. Trengrove - Loved his work across half back, great decision maker and a beautiful kick. He plays like a coach on the field, always following the team instructions on how the team wants to play. He is playing like he has full confidence with his body this year, when he was selected the same time last year he was still a but unsure but deserves a shot soon. Weiderman - Struggled to have a big impact on the game, didn't make the most of his opportunities when he did get a chance to hit the scoreboard. I Like it when he pushes up the field to get himself as involved, classy user of the ball. Hullett - Kicked an early goal but struggled against an solid Dogs backline. Kielty - Played across the backline and was OK, would like Dec to settle back for a while to regain some of the form from last year. Kent - Busy with little impact, seems like he is just trying too hard sometimes. Plays better in the AFL where there is more space to run into but his lack of tackles and pressure acts is probably costing him a game. Fritsch - The only tall Casey forward that looked dangerous on the night, looking confident and has a great left foot kick. No doubt the AFL scouts I keep seeing at Casey games will be keeping a close eye on his progress.

  22. Another week and again confused about this idea of resting players in anticipation of next weeks game. We've just come off a "long" break and only played 2 games. Each week is about winning, not thinking about the week after. Best team plays at all times, unless you are "rebuilding", form, have injuries or have better players coming back from injury.

  24. I'd like to mention Harmes, he's a favourite of mine so I'm a bit biased, but I reckon he's an integral part of our forward line. He is hard at the ball, not afraid to go for a pack mark, tackles with a certain amount of vigour and is quite quick. He also gut runs and always offers up a lead, if he'd kicked straight, he got 1 goal 4 behinds from his 18 possessions, we'd be talking about close to BOG, but he gets no love on here. Very hard worker James and he's only played 34 games, lot of improvement left.

  26. Jones hasn't missed since Round 14, 2012. Let that sink in for a second. Its going to be weird seeing the team run out without him over the next month. On the bright side, its a brilliant test for our younger players, especially Viney to take on the added load in the midfield. Also, this is where the absence of Brayshaw really hurts. I'd love to see him play a full game in the midfield and not as a defensive half forward.

  27. 4-6? That's almost more than he's missed during his whole career!

  29. The other oddity from the MRP is the Jetta/Stringer decision. From the limited vision I have seen Jetta tackled Stronger, who didn't like it so started the wrestle, and then threw Jetta to the ground, bounced his full body weight and elbows into Jetta's ribs and was only stopped by ANB and Salem(?) coming in to drag him off. How both Stringer and Jetta get the same sanction (different amount due to first and second offence) is beyond me.

  32. Very switched on. Noticed watching the replay that he's constantly scanning the field and directing players to where they should be at stoppages, all the way at half back at times. Great leadership, and staying involved in a position that often players go missing. David King's mid-season AA forward 6 has Robbie Gray in it. Same amount of goals as Jeff, Jeff has 24 more tackles and one of the best pressure forwards in the league, which is what that position is all about these days. Too much emphasis on pointless possession stats Kingy.

  33. Just watched on the couch replay - good old Jonno Brown continues to pump us up. David Kind even brought up a graph titled 'premiership contenders?' (Notably though, showing we are #1 pressure side). what with the nature of this season and the fleeting form lines of all teams, perhaps a tightly fitting lid is called for...

  38. I have come full circle on this over the 12 months. I used to fret for every half decent Melbourne player concerned that he would leave for success with other teams. And I couldn't blame them as for near on a decade we have been a rabble. Why would you stay? Now we are chock full of talent, we are young with seemingly a window of opportunity about a mile long, the players seem to genuinely like playing for each other, the coaching group look settled, focused and professional. We play at the best ground in the league that also hosts the Grand Final. We have easily the best colours and the best song (last two points may be subjective) The MFC is an exciting place to be. Why would you leave?

  39. Lethlean, the apologist (spin doctor ) for the MRP and the AFL said it was within five metres of the ball so it was OK and there was insufficient force. He said Danger jumped up and took his free kick. What he didnt say and what wasnt referred to was that the head was sacrosanct. If a Melbourne player had done it, it would be 2 down to 1. If Shuey does it again, no doubt they'll increase the fine to $1200. That'll teach him a valuable lesson. FARCE

  40. I keep reading in this thread about the concern of a "long trip to WA". I hope it's only supporters who even think that it's a concern. West Coast and Freo cope with this "long trip" every two weeks or so. If they can do it, we can do it. And we only have to do it a couple of times per season. If our team's mindset is somehow compromised by this concern then we're not yet ready to be a power club.

  41. Dear Boris and Natasha, Moonshadow has extensive links with " the party" and will organise all your official espionage requirements.(binoculars, seating) His " information" is often unreliable ,especially after two beers. Upon arrival your instructions will await you. Trust nobody unless they are wearing a red and blue scarf. Stand under the tree near gate 3 reading a copy of " the record" and one of his agents will meet you prior to your mission. This message will self destruct once read by a moderator.

  42. Anyone else feel we had a certain extra maturity on the weekend? It's probably because we did. Total games per team: Melbourne 2050 d. Western 1877 I'm aware of how easily altered the figure can be by the inclusion of a single Jordan Lewis for example, but it's become a fairly reliable predictor of our results as the season has settled in. Melbourne 2028 d. Collingwood 1658 Melbourne 1984 d. Gold Coast 1446 North Melb 2296 d. Melbourne 1895 Melbourne 1873 d. Adelaide 2186 Hawthorn 2959 d. Melbourne 1860 Melbourne 1921 d. Essendon 1864 Richmond 1750 d. Melbourne 1611 Fremantle 1876 d. Melbourne 1588. We had 1492 games of experience vs. Geelong's 2279 so have added over 550 since round 3. But West Coast went in with 2760 games vs. Geelong (2422) last week, so our only real hope is if Jones, Watts and Hibberd come up, and Garland and Trengove come in to replace Oscar and Hunt . . .

  43. How is Selwood's elbow to Mitchell's noggen any different to Salem's elbow to ziebels noggen? Riddle me that MRP, blight on the game this MRP. Friggen Bartel pulling the strings to help his mate out disgrace.

  44. A lot of people do, that's why there's numerous footy shows on multiple channels. I like to kick back during the week after a good win and see what's being said about us, and get some sick satisfaction from the schadenfreude of clubs I hate getting ripped into. I don't necessarily care what the media say, I think a majority of them are buffoons, but I like to watch what's being said.

  45. Who cares about the media? Let's just keep winning. The media will turn on you very quickly when something goes rotten so lets not hang out for some kind of parental approval from the doorknobs in the media. We are coming from a long way back. I want to be a hated team because we are winning in a ruthless manner.

  46. The whole MRP system is flawed. It gives those on the panel too much power to manipulate the numbers to suit whatever outcome they want. Deliberate, careless, reckless, high impact, low impact... what a joke. You can't try to streamline actions into neat little boxes. If they want to fix this mess they need an independent body that reviews each case and makes a decision and then brings down the punishment accordingly. As in every actual justice system. If you get king hit do you stand in front of a judge and plead reckless not intentional low impact? How are ex players even allowed on? It's such a biased joke!

  47. Deal was pick 23 in return for Frost and picks 40 & 53. We drafted Neal-Bullen and Oscar Mac with those picks. GWS drafted Pat McKenna with pick 23 (who is currently on our injury list). I think we did ok out of that deal.

  48. Buckley on Footy Classifieds is so bitter about us... said "they played a good 4 quarter game last week. They had to". Then went on to say "they are only a game ahead of the Dogs" Bitter Buckley. Bitter. I love it!

  49. Even Brereton said, with regret in his voice, that Shuey had to go coz you can't run past the ball to give someone the business. I note Salem got a week for less than what Selwood did, If Rance wasn't staging, then what is staging? Do you need a girl dressed up as Robin Hood creeping up behind you with the audience chanting "OH, YES HE IS!" It's beyond a joke. WHAT!?!!!?!?!? Words fail. Sack him on the spot. Sack them all. The AFL is a corrupt comp. If I hadn't foolishly invested years of nervous energy and emotion into the Demons I would have walked away some years back.
