  1. Given the chance of a lifetime to play AFL at the top level, continues to screw up with two assault charges pending, [censored] on the club and all of the players accusing them all of being on drugs and, if I read it right, wants Fyfe to 'die a slow painful death'. The icing on the cake is the complete lack of punctuation. I find it hard to have any sympathy.

  11. That's probably more to the point. Refusing a breath or blood alcohol test, carries 2 years licence suspension in Victoria, even though you might have only had a negative reading, or or a reading that leads to say 10 months suspension for example. So the refusing/avoiding, is punished heavily, to discourage that behaviour and ensure that all parties asked to undergo testing do so.

  17. That was written by a very troubled person who needs help. He is carrying around a lot of hatred and bitterness and this is coming out in his assaults and other incidents in his private life. Interesting the resentment at some clubs about players who set themselves high standards, some thing has happened to others such as Rockliff. In the past you would work to match them, it seems to today they resent them when they work so hard to succeed.

  20. and now for something completely different......................(spoken with an american accent (lol)..... An engineer dies and goes to hell. After a while, the engineer gets dissatisfied with the level of comfort there and starts designing and building improvements. After a while, hell has air conditioning, flushing toilets, water fountains and escalators - making the engineer a pretty popular guy. One day God phones Satan up and asks with a sneer: “Hey buddy, how’s it goin down there?” Satan snickered back, “Things are going great actually. We’ve got air conditioning, flush toilets, escalators and the works. Hell, there’s no telling what this engineer guy is gonna come up with next.” God replies, “What? You’ve got an engineer? That’s a mistake - he should never have been sent there; send him back up.” To which Satan replied, “No way dude. I like having an engineer on staff, I’m keepin him.” God retorted, “Send him up here or I’ll sue.” Satan laughs loudly and answers, “Yeah, right. And just where are you gonna find a lawyer?”

  36. Saints website: Buy now. Pay later. Break records. If only we had a $1 for every comment we've received on social media! Well, starting today, you can lock in your 2017 membership for just that, $1* Who knows how many of those end up actually taking up a full membership - In the meantime they count in the numbers. Adelaide website: I assume it is a non-game access membership for people who just want to stay in tune with what is going on at the club. Certainly helps explain why their numbers have skyrocketed! I think Collingwood has something similar for their overseas members (but I think they pay a token amount). 'Method in their madness': 1) Membership numbers count big time when AFL is doing the fixture with TV stations and who gets FTA prime spots. 2) They hope that one day these folk convert to full memberships.

  38. Confirmed in this article by John Pierik. http://www.theage.com.au/afl/greater-western-sydney-giants/greater-western-sydney-giants-fined-100000-for-lachie-whitfield-affair-20161222-gtgp81.html " This means that if they were to finish fourth next season, as they had this year, their draft selection No.15, worth 1112 points, would slip to No.63 (112 points). " Effectively they have had their first round pick taken away.

  42. You mean with clubs swimming in zero-asset debt, Victorian clubs embroiled in constant merger talks, games played at stadiums falling apart (and clubs losing millions in the process), little to no regional and grassroot support, little to no Indigenous support ... shall I go on? What's your definition of "swimming in cash", and what is "a payoff" to that surplus? The commentators have nothing to do with the AFL. The AFL is limited in who it can sell broadcasting rights to. Foxtel arguably offers the best value and best quality across a diverse broadcasting structure but the problem is that it limits free-to-air access...the AFL is in a corner because Channel 7 invests in the wrong individuals to lead its sports coverage. It's the networks that seem out of touch with the broader public, not the AFL.

  43. What a disgrace, on his narcissistic part, that he was too selfish and thoughtless to sort this out before list lodgement. Had he done so in a timely manner, and not lead us all on, he may have left with at least a modicum of a respectable legacy: now all that will be remembered will be his screwing over the club.

  45. 2.508 billion dollar TV rights deal over 6 years. That's 418 million a year without even adding the revenue from memberships, attendances etc. So at 1.7 million per year Gil has taken home about 0.41% of revenue from the broadcast deal. Is that really that unfair? Forget about if you like the bloke or not and look at his achievements and things aren't going too bad. We've got a women's league. The Dees have a women's team. The Dees have posted profits despite still missing finals A fellow battler just won the flag. The AFL took control of Etihad to help those teams out and secure an asset (Way too slowly but) the AFL is at least thinking of reigning in some of GWS' advantages The fixture isn't getting any more screwed up that it has been!

  46. I understand the whole 'got to pay to get the best' argument. And I totally agree with the 'executive decisions make a difference on a scale with their incomes'. But here's the thing... in a genuine market, 'we' (The AFL community, which the AFL implicitly acts on behalf of, as a not-for-profit organisation incorporated for the purpose of promoting and regulating the game in Australia) should be paying a market rate for the labour, fairly based on how easily replaced the labour is. Given that there's no real case against replacing McLachlan with a kid who normally sells footy records or the trumpet-playing busker in a panda suit I saw once at Etihad, why are we paying $1.7m for this clutz?

  47. I think we have the capabiliy to stretch teams with size. Vandenberg is a midfielder but big enough to play as a key which is a huge asset. Playing him as a "4th" tall could cause all sorts of problems. He is mobile enough to play tall or small depending on the situation. Watts is quickish for his size and is capable of out running tall defenders or out marking small ones. With Kent and Garlett around we should have enough pace if they can be consistant with their pressure. T Smith is a natural footballer and I'd like to see him get a run at it early in the season but if he struggles to cement his spot then I think Pedo comes in. Kent, Tracc, Brayshaw, Salem and maybe Hannan can all rotate between mid and forward. Maybe we could see a forward lineup something like this? Unfortunatly that means Watts continues as ruck relief but I like Watts' skill around the ground when he plays the ruck role anyway. Watts, Lewis and Salem with Jones, Viney and Tyson is a pretty good mix of skill and grunt in and around the contest, but I digress. HF: Kent, Hogan, Watts F: Garlett, TSmith, Vandenberg Rotating with Kent: CP5, Brayshaw, Salem. Tyson? (Tyson's a bit of an after thought but he can kick a goal) Edit: Obviously this leaves out the Weid. While I like him and think he will be a star I still believe he should spend more time at Casey than in the seniors. He will get a go at some stage. Either form or injury above him will give him the chance but I wouldn't have him in the team come round 1. (A fantastic BLT or whatever its called series might change my mind)
