I'm sailing on the river of dreams, somewhere between Nirvana & Ecstacy, anticipating a great Dees victory!19 points

I'm getting in first. This is the worst defeat in ten years ! Worse even than the demolition job the Cats did on us At Skilled Stadium in the Bailey years. We were and are PUTRID! Too many players far too easily pleased! Chuffed we were about last week! Yeah that was our equivalent of winning a Premiership! Let this sink in! We lost to a team of Top ups! What a absolute disgrace we are, Can we possibly get some players that actually will Bleed for the jumper!?? Poor coaching and poor selections contribute. You reap what yiou sow! The embarrasment I feel is is palpable!17 points

Oliver got the rising star nomination last week and now expert posters saying we should have taken Parish because of today's game. Classic.16 points

Posters bagging Lumumba and M.Jones but not saying anything about Viney, Brayshaw, Kent, Hogan, Garland, McDonald and vandenBerg who were all poor today... It's like you just copy and paste the same names without actually watching the game. I would drop Hogan after his effort and attitude today. Can't baby him anymore, if he's going to sook and never give a second effort then he can learn better habits at Casey for a few weeks.13 points

If only I was surprised, there was a justifiable reason many of us were nervous about this game. Mentally, this club makes marshmallows look tough12 points

Congratulations Demons, it's taken us all of 2 weeks to be the butt of everone's jokes, yet again. Fine effort12 points

Meanwhile .... Jack Trengove has brought his own footy today, he's up to 13 possessions already, and has added a goal, 21 minutes into Q1. @melbournefc12 points

I thought the Coaching was terrible today and I blame the whole box full of them. Both wings had a loose Bomber at every centre bounce and guess what, they were used to set up the play every time. Then, as no one knew who was on them, they had loose men all over the ground. We could have gone man on man at half time, but oh no, these guys are unbending. That and a poor effort from the players cost us this easily winnable game.10 points

Out coached, outplayed, outwitted. Just a disgrace of a football side.10 points

Joke of a decision not to play Dunn. Seriously 15 [...] marks to Daniher and they decide to leave our most experienced tall defender out for Lamumba10 points

You know what's the worst part? We've made a whole lot of Essendon supporters very happy tonight. This performance of ours will have given their whole putrid club a new lease of life. And they will feel that their arrogance is completely justified - thanks to us!9 points

I don't even know what to say about that performance. I really thought the players would see it as a terrific opportunity to smash a team and go 2-0 to start the season. And we serve up rubbish. I'm laying the blame solely at the feet of the players today. They didn't run hard, no appetite for the contest and allowed them to do as they pleased. I continually thought the players would take some responsibility at each break and look to make amends. We did so briefly in the last... and then we fell over and completely lost the plot. I'm positive at the best of times but I can't take anything out of that game. Nothing. Maybe Kennedy was a positive. Vince and Jones had a dip. But outside of that the only word that comes to mind was 'putrid'.9 points

Well this is my first post and and I desperately need to vent after 51 years of supporting my beloved team. If I were in charge I would have censored every player after last weeks escape against the giants. Everyone started saying how good we are. On the official mfc website it was all we have turned the corner ; we are better; we are winners. Maybe just pull our heads in until we have strung together more than one bloody win. After todays loss all that talk about improving doesnt seem to add up. If i were in charge I would find us another decent option for our forward line. We need a star like Daniher not hogan who thinks noone else can fill his shoes. We all want him to be a star but we all saw how just simpy lazy he was today. I love Watts because I know he tries but its sad that he can never play two really good games in a row. Colin Garland just isnt a contender. Hes like Howe and plays a good game in six. Lumumba, I love his attack but just once he needs to look around and not run everytime like someones put a firecracker up his a@#$. Pederson is not the second forward we need by a long shot and is really there to make up the numbers. Poor Gawn had a shocker and I dont think kent has ever played so poorly. Perhaps we (especially the club) should all just settle down and wait until we have won at least two games in a row before we all keep patting everyone on th back. I know as supporters its hard. we love our club. we crave and hope for improvemnet. But the players and coaches need to be honest and not get ahead of themselves or our ablity like we did after sneaking home against the giants by 2 points and gws poor kicking, Thanks for listening.8 points

I arrived about 10 minutes into the first quarter and as I walked in Trengove took a strong mark and kicked a great goal from about 40m. It was a great sign. It took me quite a while to work out who was who so I might have missed some of the good work by the MFC listed players in the 1st quarter by half time I had them pretty much pegged. Having said that it took me till the last quarter to pick out Jayden Hunt. Alex Neal-Bullen was the best demon player over 4 quarters, played in the centre and was constantly in the game, kicked a couple of goals following the ball forward. Dunn played well at full back, looked short of a gallop but seemed to get better as the game went on. Half way through the 3rd quarter he came off for a spell and i heard him say to someone on the interchange that he was fuched but he played a good last term. I think he'd be right to come in next week. Trengove was in everything early, moved very smoothly was clean and made good decisions. Looked to be doing it pretty easily at this level to be honest. He was rested for almost all of the 4th quarter. Petracca was very good in patches, he was off and on the bench a lot and came off about half way through the 3rd quarter. He has great hands in traffic, very soft. I was surprised to see he had 20 touches. Hunt - As I said I didn't realise it was him until the last quarter and he was good. He used his speed a few time and broke the lines but tends to blaze away and not kick it to the advantage of the forwards. Weidemen was good, took some good marks, positioned himself well in the forward line and kicked straight from what I saw. Still very raw, but isn't afraid to throw himself into the contest. Hulett - another i didn't realise who he was until late. Will need time but did some nice things leading up to the wings. I'll think of more later, any questions just ask. Cheers, HB8 points

Disagree. While the players were pathetic today, as were the umpires, so we're our coaches. they had a loose man on each wing at every centre bounce and then played through them all day. These guys then ran without an opponent and were the link men setting up their thrusts the whole day. Why the hell weren't they manned up? I would love an MFC coach to tell me. That and a poor player effort cost us the game. BTW, I think we have problem with the $10million Man. He does not do any 1%'s at all. His body language is a disgrace. Yes he is talented, but he needs effort as well as talent. Too many on here hero worship him and I think he knows it.8 points

To those who were waiting until todays game to decide whether to renew or not, I applaud you for using common sense.7 points

Trengove's kicking was very good. His fitness surprised me. If I didn't know his history I'd say he looked fit enough to pay next week. Clearly he won't, but he's not far away. I could see him coming in very soon. I did see him sprint in the third close to the boundary on the member's side and his speed was fine. He certainly didn't look "slow". It was markedly different to when he looked embarrassingly slow a couple of years back.7 points

I think we have bee exposed as a fraudulent club. No spirit and no soul. Just making up the numbers for the AFL. When it comes to soul and fighting spirit we ain't worth the Essendon's players toe jam despite their problems. Fark the premiership window. We are on the way to matching last season [censored] efforts. And if anyone says we have improved if we win one more game than last season deserves a punch in the face.7 points

Didn't watch the game but you don't even have the watch us lose games like these to know what's going on. Since last year I've said that Hogans attitude stinks. He will never be an elite player unless he grows up. His constant sooking is pathetic and I blame the club for not stamping this out already. I would put him on notice. Give him a target of second efforts he has to achieve or drop him. We can't bloody tip toe around him because we are too scared the first potential star we've had in decades is going to leave. His attitude sends a bad message to the rest of the young team. Secondly, I will never understand why we recruited Lumumba. Let alone why we select him ahead of guys like Stretch. We need speed and we need kicking efficiency. Last year Lumumba was god awful and I see that nothing has changed. I am so over being disappointed by this club. It feels like nothing will ever change. We make such small steps forward and then undo those steps immediately. It's exhausting. We are exhausting.7 points

M Jones was far from our worst. Kent, Vandenberg and Harmes may as well not played. Brayshaw was far from match fit. Roos saying we looked tired for [censored]'s sake its round 2.7 points

We didn't get enough from too many players. Our ball movement was slow, we didn't work hard to spread and we weren't first to the ball. They smashed us in uncontested possessions and as a result we didn't deserve to be as close as we were. In some ways the defeat was comparable to the 148 loss. It proves there's still a very soft underbelly at our football club. I'm surprisingly calm. It was such an insipid performance though. I can feel the apathy returning. I was hoping this would be a season where we would become more consistent. I know it's early in the season and that could still come, but it's a pretty bitter pill to swallow.7 points

Tmac - idiot. Hogan - believing his own hype, loves a whine at the umps Nate Jones - needed to inspire and lead, failed. Viney - Was beaten soundly. Harmes - poor again Bugg - poor Watts - poor Lumumba - goodbye kent - terrible. Gawn - got slaughtered today. Salem - NOT A DEFENDER!!! Coaches - pathetic, pathetic, pathetic. Melbourne FC - Typical effort and ability. As a whole this club is super poor. They kill my love for the game, I now don't want to go to games, it's not worth the 5+ hour round trip. I'm not even angry, I just knew that we would lose, it is just typical of this club to roll over and cop a rogering from a club that on paper is worse than ourselves. Its like the players see we are favourites, put their feet up and fondle their balls all week.7 points

Essendon, with their bunch of washed up Grandpas and kids, had 128 more possessions and 16 more tackles than us. So much for a team full of 'competitors'.7 points

He was terribly outcoached today. We lost by 2 goals after being absolutely annihilated. A few moves, a change in direction and some space, and we'd have run away with it even after being so poor. Again, we were shocking yet only lost by 2 goals. We were out-coached today. The players lacked class and attack and all that jazz, but there were some key areas that ultimately drove Essendon to the win. Rarely do you have a forward take 15 marks, 9 inside 50, and lose. Their spread and cuts through the middle were not through a lack of Melbourne players not chasing: they were ALWAYS chasing. They were just badly out of position. The same thing happened last week though..but Roos didn't bring it up. So this week's it's an issue. Notice how much things changed in the last quarter last week? He seems prepared to take credit for a win when he changes things up, but when he's stubborn and he coaches to stem the opposition's score rather than to attack the scoreboard, it's the player's fault. I think Roos has been exposed these first two weeks. And badly.6 points

Just washed down a can of tuna with a beer. Not a great combination, I can't recommend it. This is a game we can't afford to lose. I was quietly confident but as it gets closer to the bounce, the butterflies have crept in. Edit: Actually, come to think of it, it's possibly not butterflies but the canned tuna and beer combo plus the yoghurt and muesli I had 15 minutes before that.6 points

Roos was shockingly out-coached today. It's rather astonishing. I laughed every time Daniher marked over 2-3 Melbourne players. He said during the week, "Well, Essendon have a rather short forward line." Woosha absolutely cleaned him up. Why wasn't Dunn playing? Why did Lumumba get a game? Roos either sorely underestimates this team and has them bog it down, or he overestimates them and thinks they have the capacity to score quickly against a flood. Two weeks in a row, the opposition has toweld Melbourne up on the transition and getting into space. They play with zero confidence and instead allow the opposition to control the ball across the middle of the ground. Melbourne just out-Melbourne'd itself. And Paul Roos is front and center there. He lost that game for them today. It should have been a case of run and gun today. Instead, he coached the team directly into the Bombers' hands. Taking nothing away from Essendon. They stood up and were deserving winners.5 points

BenKen was the only guy I saw that put in a 4 quarter effort. They chipped the ball all day and we did nothing to stop it. Ross' inability to change the gameplan. Forward delivery was bomb it long to Hogan and pray, even though he was double/triple teamed. Disgraceful disposals and turnovers. Kicking for goal wasnt much better. We had guys jogging when the game was on the line. Its the 2nd round. Could go on forever. A embarrassing loss to say the least.5 points

They have nothing to do with our inability to actually run, tackle and apply pressure. It has been abysmal.5 points

And for those who were having a go at those of us who were nervous about today's game, now you know why. What a pathetic start to the game, they have made us look like the team in 2013, our forward line is a clutter, our pressure is average, our defending is average. T-Mac has been his normal stupid self with ball in hand. Some of our better players have wasted the ball, Viney looks a shell of what he was last week.5 points

I don't want to put the mozza on us but IMO this is one of the most important games I think our club has played in for a long time. It is this game where we will see if our side has become a real AFL side or not, whether we are willing to kick our excuses in the crutch or kneel down and accept mediocrity. This is the kind of game we have historically lost (think Carlton last year). Our side needs to finally stand up and live up to their standards because, on paper, we all know our team is better.5 points

Just give them a belting, Dees. No mucking around. No allowing them the first clearance and a frustrating first goal to a nobody like Orazio Fantasia. Just get in there, push them around and belt the living suitcase out of them so we can go 2-0 and go in with confidence against those soft Shinboners in Round 3. Dees by 55.5 points

I don't like the cockiness of some supporters and hope the players aren't thinking the same way. This will be the big effort by Essendon this year, first game at the G, in front of the masses, showing their support of their club and their players should give the really big effort. I have seen so many games end in disappointment for us. We need to play at our best in every game, otherwise we will suffer. For me the win is paramount, if that happens, a big one would be great.5 points
