I believe Bitter But Optimistic is driving up from Romsey, you could try him. That said, you might feel more comfortable travelling up with Ivan Milat.11 points

Good one Dazzle. That pleases you does it? Could also ended Matt Jones as well. How about Michie or Riley? For heavens sake, can't we just enjoy the success of the weekend without having to dance on the grave of a player who gave his all, received lots of concussion as a result but just didn't have the skill set to really make it? You can be a jerk sometimes.10 points

It's a good story but Ainslie played UWS early last year when Frost was in the seniors... The coach of Ainslie directly called up George Stone to make sure they took a close look but I reckon it is just a boring story of Taylor, Viney and co. doing their jobs well as to why he is at the club.9 points

The supposed story on Vandenberg and not sure of the veracity, we went to have a look at Frost playing for the GWS magoos and they happened to be playing Ainslie in the NEAFL and Vandenberg stood out When I spoke to him first up said he had played against some AFL midefielders who were playing for Swans/GWS/Suns/Lions reserves in the NEAFL and thought he went alright against them so knew that if he got the chance to be drafted he had some of the tools to make a go of it9 points

vandenBerg always seems to get his arms free in the tackle and gives off cleanly and his 'cut' inside Saad and kick to Garlett for Jeffy's first goal was a thing of beauty. I also loved when he decked the living shlt out of Rischitelli in the centre square.8 points

We'll make a play for more GWS midfielders long before we throw over $1M at Dangerfield. Can't think of a more irresponsible use of our salary cap. For a few hundred thousand extra, you could probably land two far younger mids with as much potential.7 points

We can absolutely criticise Dawes for his "hands" at times - he does get into good positions and drop marks he shouldn't. What can't be faulted is his hardness - his willingness to tackle, split packs, block, shepherd, chase, create stoppages. His 1% er's are what makes him a valuable footballer.7 points

I think the confusion is that usually after the 1st round our season is finished.6 points

Therein lies the problem, H. It sounds good in theory, but BBO gets to a whole new level of "aroused" when you tie him up, buckle him up, strap him in or strap one on...5 points

In Vince Out Toumpas Sub Cross Close tag Viney on rat face - with extreme prejudice. Let Dawes hold some grabs / kick a bag in the 2s. I liked the speed on the ground last week. Could not see any reason to drop JKH. Roosy rang me for a bit of advice and initially I told him to go the extra tall but after we all had dinner at Satys it was decided that we needed run and carry.5 points

Well well. Once again I'm happy to allow Dland's comic genii to make their particularly unfunny remarks at my expense. Unfortunately I am unable to help "special" out (and it's nothing to do with my rule about poor people and the Merc). Rather I already have two freeloading friends of the squeeze joining me for the roadtrip. Bad luck for them. All the excitement is activating my old flatulence issue and that persistent fungal problem appears to have reinvented itself.4 points

No offence intended but your username rings alarm bells for me old mate.4 points

Roos loves defensive pressure. Brayshaw 9 tackles, JKH 1. I also saw him chase Saad and the effort was pretty poor. JKH is talented but he needs to work on his defensive skills it's why I think he has to make way for Dawes. THE TEAM B: JETTA, DUNN, GARLAND HB: HOWE, T.MCDONALD, SALEM C: LUMUMBA, N.JONES, CROSS HF: KENT, HOGAN, VANDENBERG F: WATTS, DAWES, GARLETT FOLL: JAMAR, TYSON, VINEY IC: VINCE, NEWTON, FROST SUB: BRAYSHAW EMERG: KENNEDY-HARRIS4 points

He didn't star, but I thought he was terrific. 15 possessions, 7 marks - 4 contested, splitting packs, goals ... all on their best defender in his first game as a key forward is exceptional. In fact, he took the second most contested marks for the entire round along with Nick Riewoldt (just one behind the leader on 5). It wasn't "just a game".4 points

Now I might be blowing something out of my arse, and don't want to start any rumours. But a mate of mine was telling me that there has been leaked text messages, between him and Garlett about him trying to get to the demons. Apparently Carlton have found out about this and have tried to get him to resign on further, but he has said that he doesn't want to deal with contract talks and just wants to play footy. I have done a bit of research but can't seem to see anything myself. I know he is contracted on until the end of 2016 though, has anyone else heard anything about this?3 points

For all the high draft picks we've wasted over the years, it feels so sweet to absolutely nail a left field rookie pick like this. He already looks like a top 5 draft pick.3 points

We'll need as much leg speed and competent midfielders as possible to match or beat GWS, so for those against the return of Vince I completely disagree. Vince for Toumpas is a no brainer. As for Frost he should be kept without a doubt. He's not only a valuable second ruck, his athleticism will be needed against Cameron and he understands best how their talls operate. McCarthy and Cameron (+ 3rd tall being Tomlinson) both need to be shut down. Garland alone can eliminate McCarthy's influence, the other three defenders (Frost, McDonald, and Dunn) either need to rotate on Cameron (similar to Geelond vs. Riewoldt during their golden years) or double-team him with one blocking his run while also picking off the incoming inside 50's to generate quick rebounds for the mids (on the basis it doesn't create headaches elsewhere). As for other defenders Salem, Jetta, and Lamumba are required to shut down their vast array of midfielders come forwards (Smith, Griffen, Greene, Palmer, etc.). I think the biggest question we should ask is, what do we want in attack? Would we prefer three tall options (Hogan, Watts, Dawes) or two at any one time. Those we should look at are JKH or Kent. Someone suggested Vandenberg but I think his high half forward role and ability to win the ball around clearance and take on the midfield is invaluable. Another option would be to drop Brayshaw and place Newton as sub as I see him as an immediate impact player but tires quickly. Decisions, decisions.3 points

Vanders just looks like he is the complete package.....big body, knows how to find the footy, hurts the opposition, kicks goals, great Mark, and good tackler. We've got another like this possibly even better in Petracca , so Future looks good and I love the big bodied team mentality.3 points

know its been said before but i loved vanders and newtons game. incredible first up games. no nerves and both so good around the ball. great intensity and hardness. goes back to the northey years when we showed that hardness and take no prisoners attitude. great recruiting nous.3 points

That hit on Rischitelli showed the sort of intent that we have been lacking for a decade. There are plenty of big bodied midfielders going around but plenty of them actually don't throw their weight around. Vanders showed he is completely comfortable with the physicality of the AFL game immediately along with the ability to take an overhead mark and decent foot skills. I think he should play most/all games for us this year as he can set the tone for us physically in the middle at times. Jones is hard as anyone but he gets himself hurt more than hurting others while Viney is a beast but not many are going to be intimidated by him. Vanders gives us a more unique mix through the middle along with Gartlett and Lamumba providing the speed.3 points

* That special feeling when you open an old bumped thread and discover you haven't said anything idiotic. * As for Aish, Dangerfield or any other quality player on the market at season's end, it will be nice to be buyers for a change if that eventuates.3 points

Just reading through this thread there were a number of people not wanting to draft Salem and go Freeman instead. I'd imagine they would be very happy the recruiters went with Salem now!3 points

He tried but he failed. Big issue now is to get his game back in order. A telling fact is that he was not missed last weekend. He hasn't progressed in the past 3 seasons. Neville Jetta is now doing his onfield role but a whole lot better.3 points

And two of the best smothers I can remember seeing, both of which led to critical goals. In his first game!!3 points

If Frost is on the bench, he would give Jamar a chop-out for 10 mins a quarter. Then give each of the tall forwards (Dawes, Hogan & Watts) a rest for 10 mins each across the game. That's getting about 70% game time without having 4 tall forwards on the ground at the same time. So there's a way to play both Dawes & Frost without getting top-heavy up forward. He's also our best back-up if one of our key talls (say, T-Mac or Jamar) get pantsed or (God forbid) injured.3 points

Or perhaps you could turn up yourself and do better. Quite frankly, I'm sick of this unnecessary sniping for absolutely no good reason. There will be zero tolerance for this sort of thing in future. We should be happy we're getting the reports, particularly after a good win like the one we had on Saturday.3 points

After being at the G on Saturday and enjoying it, took footy free couple of days No shows today, Trengove, Petracca, Hunt and Nathan Jones Light duties Viney, Watts, Howe, Tom McDonald, no major issues, just management and Jetta (who had a bit of issue with concussion after the game) Ball movement and stoppages still the focus Spoke to quite a few of the players, as expected all up and about but there is a steely resolve to back up at the weekend Complimented Jeff Garlett on his game, got the usual "just playing my role", asked about the Watts tap back, said there was no call, just two players playing on instinct, said he enjoyed his time in the midfield Chris Salem said it was a very good weekend, said his kick for goal couldn't have come of his foot any better (Arsenal beat Liverpool 4-1) Asked Aaron Vandenberg how easy AFL was, said his body said it wasn't Chris Dawes is looking like a caged bear, if he gets the run, would not like to be first GWS defender who gets in his way Bernie Vince got through whole Casey game unscathed and is cherry ripe, I asked Should make Thursday's training interesting Pics will be on Twitter Demonpk Any questions feel free3 points
