  1. I still find it slightly comical that Chip has come out saying that the constant speculation is annoying him, yet he was the one who put off those contract talks and brought the speculation down on himself. Not too bright is our James.

  3. So everyone is criticising Frawley's 'loyalty' because he wants to put off contract negotiations to the end of the season, and he might go, but then they're jumping up and down with the prospect of getting Malceski, whose 'loyalty' to the Swans is that he wants to put off contract negotiations to the end of the season, and he might go? Some FA double standards here.

  5. Don't say that too loud here. There are many here who buy into the loyal country boy theme. Apparently he can take his time and do whatever he wants. Stuff creating a strong culture - they seemingly want the leadership vacuum at the MFC to live on forever. Fortunately we now have Roosy and some imported senior leaders and some newly recruited junior players who want to change that. Personally, I'm very disappointed that the loyal country boy is shaking his ass for the best possible offer, as he absolutely has to be a required player for the MFC. That he and his manager are flirting with the biggest cheque book makes me want a top 4 pick instead. Unlike some here, I am absolutely partial to loyalty. I don't see that as being naive or unprofessional. In fact, I see the opposite view as being thoroughly uncritical, flabby and lazy in the extreme.

  6. Most of you missed that he essentially said he is at the club until we don't want him anymore - he sounded like a Demon lifer from here. Who cares if he coaches for 3 years or 5 years - he is a Demon and will be around the club and helping make decisions for a generation and a club restored. Celebrate.

  7. You're such an interesting poster Machsy. You get up on that high horse with the flick of a switch. This is a forum for MFC supporters and I've posted my opinion of Petracca as a player you insecure fairy. Not once have I or do I claim myself an expert. Everyone is aware this is a football forum and people are entitled to share whatever views they hold. You're a strange guy. I hear that you disagree with my view of Petracca and that's fine. But I'll continue to rebut your stance on this 'tank' talk. Aerobic testing will show nothing but how fit he is at this moment in time.. Genetic predispositions to aerobic/anaerobic capacity and thresholds are really not that important at AFL level unless you're lacking majorly in other areas of your game. This is not an athlete competing in a running event in the Olympics. It's the AFL. No [censored] genetics help. But my argument is that once kids are playing in the midfield at state level, their 'fitness levels' and 'tanks' are already high. Some will have naturally better tanks, some won't be quite as strong. But once these kids get to the AFL, it's their appetite to work as hard as they can that will determine how fit they can become. Tell me who has the best 'genetics' when it comes to endurance running out of: Fyfe Mitchell Kennedy Bartel (in his prime) Ablett Cotchin Dangerfield I'll answer it Machsy. Nobody cares. They've all got themselves to an extremely high level of fitness due to their work ethic. Some will obviously have a better natural fitness base but I don't ever hear anybody talking about it. They've all got AFL midfield fitness levels. It's their footballing attributes that people talk about. (And Dangerfield's explosiveness). Something the Petracca also has..

  8. Now now, just because he systematically excludes the evidence bases for informed public policy, sees negotiation as an affront to his manhood, engages in gratuitous cruelty just to show who is in charge, and is setting out to cripple the medium-term national finances with a series of short-sighted interventions that rip apart programs which make a substantial net gain for government expenses... Well, ok, I'm for the chimpanzee. At least a chimpanzee understands that smashing a banana against a rock because you are too lazy to peel it is kind of dumb. Oh, hey, that was Picket Fence making those comments protecting Abbott. Lol, maybe he's a climate denier as well as an disposal efficiency denier?

  10. I'm not saying it is the case, yet. But originally Roos wanted a number of candidates from whom the successor could be picked. It makes sense that the successor is a person who Roos and the club think will best be able to do the job and who embodies what is needed in a coach. Over the course of the last 12 months Roos may have come to think Rawlings could be that person. Not made a decision but may be considering him. I would much rather our next coach be able to say: He has 10 years AFL coaching experience He has 3 years of mentoring from Roos He has 3 years experience with training the list and developing culture and game plan He had the respect of the players souring the Neeld era Than not have any of the above, or be a 2 year veteran. If Roos thinks Rawlings is a good candidate, I'd much rather Rawlings than an inexperienced Hayes or Ling.

  11. I believe he will pick a successor from within the current coaching group unless an outstanding candidate appears. Rawlings started coaching in 2007 so has 8 years experience. By all reports he has great rapport with the players. He was head VFL coach, interim AFL coach and has worked under Terry Wallace, Michael Voss, Mark Neeld and now Paul Roos. Ok, apart from Roos that isn't an outstanding list of coaches but importantly he has experience at 3 clubs under different regimes. If he is re-contracted at the end of this year, I'd be surprised if he doesn't become the one (unless an outstanding option or former Roos pupil appears). By 2017 he will have 10 years assistant experience including 3 years of Roos mentoring. If that doesn't make him an ideal candidate to continue Roos' work I'm not sure what would. A one year understudy is insufficient to learn all you can from Roos.

  12. We had Collingwood players come to our school today, Harry O, Clinton Young and Jonathan Marsh (rookie list). I asked them about Melbourne's improvement and their thoughts on the way we play. It was amazing to hear them say how much harder we are to play against and the competitive edge that has been added over the past year. They also commented on how brutal our defence has become to play against, stating during the Queens birthday game it was tough to break it down. Most of all i was impressed to see the respect that has clearly been instilled into opposition players who no longer take us lightly. This time last year we had Collingwood players, Goldsack and Jamie Elliot to stated we werent too good at the moment. Great to hear.

  13. OK, after watching Footy Classified after I posted this topic I began to wonder about the accuracy of the comment from the Club so I tracked down the number from the person that rang me yesterday and just rang him again to get a confirmation. At least I could confirm that he was ringing from the Club which was a relief as I was beginning to wonder if it was a scam. He based the comment largely on a Matt Burgan article from 22 May headed "Three years for me as coach: Roos" If you read the article it doesn't say anything different to what Roosy has been saying all along. He said he apologised if he was misleading what the situation is but that's what that article says which actually it doesn't. Here is the link for the article although you won't find anything out from it that hasn't already been said. http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2014-05-22/three-years-for-me-as-coach-roos- Other than that he said he cant confirm that Roosy has actually signed but has had general conversations within the Club that the plan is for him to coach a third year. That doesn't mean he has signed yet. So, sorry for starting this topic with what I thought was reliable information directly from the Club. For what it's worth like most here, I'm sure Roosy will sign for the third year but clearly that doesn't come from a reliable source.

  17. Here, here. I'm not a fan of FA, and agree with David Kings view on it with regard to the top clubs and stronger lists prolonging their stay at the top and cherry picking players to fill roles from the clubs in a prolonged development mode.

  21. We all complain about them, no matter the team. But umpires are an important part of the game, i just wish they stopped acting like an important part of the game. When I umpired for the VAFA years ago, the first rule that was taught was to be forgettable. That means follow the rules to the letter but go about it in a way to not attract attention to yourself. Now it's like a prancing display of dickheadism. Really irks me they way the show pony around like bloody peacocks acting important but doing a halfassed job. But the worst thing is the fact that they are not held accountable for their sometimes eyebrow raising decisions. Why are they allowed to go about their JOBS and continually screw it up? When players screw up they get dropped. If you or I screw up at work there would be consequences. What are their consequences? I think that there should be a a system for them where they "earn" demerit points and when they have accumulated a certain amount then they get suspended. I'm sure i will be shot down but i had to say something. Thoughts?

  22. Who's had the better year? I think they've both been outstanding recruits for the club and have provided exactly what we needed going into 2014 and beyond. Interesting that one of the two players have been tagged in various games which has impacted on their output. This has usually resulted in the other having a very good game. To help make your decision, compare and contrast their key stats: Vince - 17 games, 394 disposals, 11.7 goals Tyson -17 games, 394 diposals, 11.3 goals.

  25. I thought Vince was a good signing at the time, however I expected him to be "like for like" for Sylvia in terms of consistency. I was wrong. He has been a great signing and has more or less been contributing every week. Getting him for pick 23 (or as a straight swap for Sylvia, if you want to look at it that way) was a bargain.

  26. Vince at his Adelaide best was a game changing A grader. We haven't seen that on display, but he's been very solid and I agree that he's better now than his last season or two at Adelaide. He's such a massive upgrade on Sylvia though; the price we paid was peanuts in relation to our needs. Both these two players have been crucial to our return to form. Bloody hard to split and I reckon both will be B&F top 5, but it's Tyson by a nose for mine.

  27. After a lot of thought, reflection, consultation with others, and numerous video reviews, I've come to the conclusion that Bernie Vince has had the better year - by about 0.4 goals

  28. IF Chip goes and I think he will, I am troubled that if we get Malceski, he will cost us possibly pick 3-4. The AFL will not give us that pick if we get Malceski as a FA and we would probably get shafted again like we did when Rivers and Moloney left and we got nothing because Byrnes came across. That was scandalous when you look at what Port got for two average players, a pick for each. I would rather a deal where for example we got say Mitchell and Malceski plus maybe a swap of picks to our advantage for say pick 4 or 5. That would allow us to improve our position in the draft and still get a couple of good players. Otherwise I would stay away from Malceski if Chip leaves, but if he stayed I would be happy to add Malceski as a FA for a few years.

  29. Good outcome if true. Ratten was by far our best midfield coach (2004) we've ever had.

  30. You may not read too well. I think there are a few here who would be happy with pick 5 as compensation for Frawley but would prefer him to stay. That is a big difference from wanting him to go as long as we get pick 5.

  31. It seems I have to keep coming back to your posts but I would suspect that very few people actually share your views and I am not sure where you are seeing these things you keep posting. Comparing Frawley to Sylvia ? Sylvia was a perennial tease on the ground - are you suggesting that over the course Frawley has been the same ? Off the field, Sylvia had a history of rumoured and actual indiscretions - to my knowledge Frawley has had nil. I'm also interested as to why it reflects badly on the club - does that mean any player who decides to put his contract talks on hold ( and there is a mounting number of those these days) are reflecting badly on the club ? Frawley is pea brain - I would agree that he isn't the sharpest tool in the shed. He doesn't carry himself well on the field ? Seriously ? He is just another player and a player that has plenty of strengths along with plenty of flaws. He doesn't drop his head and sulk and he is not petulant. Not sure where that comment comes from. He doesn't carry himself well off the field ? The only criticism you can make as to his off field behaviour is not signing a contract to a timetable that supporters would like. He is not the only footballer in the AFL delaying his contract neogtiations these days and will certainly not be the last. I think you will have to accept that this delaying of contractual arrangements is going to become the norm, especially with FA or you are going to become disenchanted with most of the list in coming years.

  34. It's the changing nature of the game, made more so now with Free agency. You will find that there will be some footballers that refreshingly place loyalty, love of the club and mates as a priority over financial gain. They are the players that we the supporters love all the more. Unfortunately with a players limited career and opportunity to earn incredible sums of money ( or play with successful clubs) , and clubs trading out players without a moments thought about the player, club loyalty is a far less valued commodity for most players and will continue to diminish. I haven't lost a minutes sleep over any player coming or going since I got well and truly Scull-ified two years ago.

  40. Disagree. Sylvia had plenty of X-factor, which was his combination of power and endurance. His power was exceptional, but his ability to turn it into consistent performance was lacking.
