  1. Yesterday night I ran into a player who played in the game against Coburg. Having read what Welsh supposedly said, I asked him if he rated Welsh as a coach. He said 'yeah, great coach and even better bloke.' I was surprised and obviously by my look he asked me why I had asked. I responded with the remarks that were reported and whether they were on the mark. He went on to tell me that it was far from how the post match address went. It was clear possession wise that MFC players are the most important figures at Casey, and most influential in winning games, however on the weekend they produced 27 tackles between them I'm led to believe. 6 by Jordie McKenzie. Casey are in a development year and lost 3 of their best 4 players to other VFL/EFL clubs and they were the lynch-pin to the club. Everyone down there understands that, as do the Melbourne coaching staff he explained. He said the only remark Welsh made re. Demons players after game was that during the week he had players ask him what they were doing that was preventing them from playing AFL.. He said look at Paul's gameplan.. You need to be defensive orientated or you will not get a game. The listed player than produced 27 tackles between them, which defensively is appalling. I can't remember if there was a remark to those effects in his interview but it sounds to me like Welsh is dead-set on the money. Don't head back to Casey padding your stats. Play AFL style footy or else you won't get picked up.. Developing year of not half a team of listed footballers should not lose to a first year standalone side in Coburg. If he's not [censored] off at that as a coach, he never will be. I don't know Rohan personally, nor do I have any involvement with Casey whatsoever, but the last 5 pages have been incredibly slanderous based on nothing but media hearsay. Whether he is a good coach or not will be assessed at the end of the year, but let's put this bad coach, bad bloke mantra away for the remaining 3 months because it's simply not correct.

  3. Todd picked up a vote from the coaches. Maybe Hardwick gave him one for recruiting. Richmond v Melbourne 9 Jeremy Howe (Melb) 9 Nathan Jones (Melb) 5 Dustin Martin (Rich) 5 Dom Tyson (Melb) 1 Todd Viney (Melb) 1 Jack Watts (Melb) from here http://www.afl.com.au/news/2014-05-20/aflca-votes-do-you-agree-with-coaches

  6. This makes me so angry. It embarrasses and shames me that in 2014, there's still idiots out there with this pathetic attitude that is about 50 years out of date. ^ As ingeniokinetikey said, well done to the Bulldogs administration for their response.

  8. We are a football club, not a financial institution. Rather than asking what the risk of appealing is we should be asking what is the risk of not appealing. The reason the MRP does not make stupid rulings against the stronger clubs is that they know the club will hold them to account. If our club does not agree with the ruling (reckless, medium impact) then we have no choice but to appeal it. If we appeal and lose then Dawes gets two weeks but if we win, not only is Dawes available v Port Adelaide in Alice Springs (which I think is a really important game), but we send a clear message to the MRP that we wont stand for their rubbish.

  12. I was there Saty and my take was completely different. I reckon Blease has perfected the "Adem Yze" run round the back and call for the easy ball and in the first half did this repeatedly to receive "unearned" possessions. He then tried to dazzle with every disposal rather than taking the first and simple option. FWIW I can't see him playing senior footy whilst he does that unless he's under specific instructions from the coaches to play like that. The Roos game plan is built around winning contested possessions. I thought he was a lot better in the second half where he did compete more and won more of his own ball. Allisons report will be interesting. I thought Jordie was clearly one of the best on the ground and I think of his 35 possessions most were in contested situations and most would have been handballs. Again the stats will verify this. His disposal was generally good but he still doesn't seem to find easy ball. That he wasn't named in the best was strange, he was clearly better than others who were. I listened to Walsh's three quarter time address and shook my head. I've been going to VFL matches for some time and listed to a number of addresses and haven't heard one like it. I don't profess to be an expert by any means but it didn't inspire me.

  13. He's not playing better than he can. These guys have been drafted at AFL level. In Pederson's case, twice. It's all between the ears after that. Roos has worked his magic, yes, but now it's simply about desire and effort from Pederson. If he can deliver, he can be a useful and important role player.

  14. He's only going to serve one week. You blokes who want to take it to the tribunal must want him to serve the whole two, because that's the only outcome that will come of challenging.

  22. Recent history would suggest just being in the vicinity of Jack Viney whilst wearing opposition colours causes serious injury. Incorrectly naming him in a match report... the consequences are almost unfathomable.

  23. No, he is playing better than you thought he could. Come to that realisation and then you realise that nothing is ever as bad, or as good, as you think it is.

  24. In 2000, Essendon was so far ahead of the rest, the remaining teams were really battling for the prize of coming second and we won. For those talking up Jones as Brownlow medallist this year, think of him as if it were like 2000. The question really is - who's going to come second to Ablett in the Brownlow. Does anyone seriously think Ablett can be beaten? And last Sunday on 3AW in a pre-game segment where the commentators give their "roast" (negative) and "sweet" (positive) comments for the round, Caroline Wilson gave her sweet to Nathan Jones. Particularly pleasing was the comment she made that it was not just about his performance against Richmond, as good as that was, but how he's conducted himself on and off the field over the previous 2 and half years. She pointed out (and I'm paraphrasing) that he'd never dropped his head during those dark days and deserves the rewards he's now getting. She also added he should be in contention for AA honours.

  25. Freo will lose Sandilands and Pavlich after next year. If they don't retire, it's unlikely they'll be as effective. That leaves cap space, but it also leaves a gaping hole in the side. Nat Fyfe will be under far more pressure and he'll be earning every cent. If I was Fyfe, I'd be in negotiations with MFC, he'd have a far better chance of winning a flag 2015 onwards. On an open market I think Fyfe would command 800k easily. Collingwood would be out of the picture.. Most likely of the Vic sides - Geelong, Carlton, Essendon, Richmond and Melbourne. On Dylan Shiel, hopefully he doesn't hit his straps before years end, he'd be a great fit. Hopefully Dommy T is in his ear.

  27. To be fair Dunn has been good for a few years now. Unfortunately half this site had it in for him and it took him along time to be recognised for his improvement. We must resign him.

  28. Hi all, Just a couple of things. Reckon Dunn has become very valuable, and dare i say it, a player i trust now.. think he has been terrific and probably in our top 3 most consistent players this year. Also beleive he is set to re-sign in coming days / week.

  30. I don't think Roos is the type of person to leave something after 2 or 3 years. I just don't think he wants the grind of coach for longer than that. He may change his mind but I think he will be coach until the end of 2016 and then take a Director of Coaching role (or something similar) from then on. I am not worried that as soon as October 2016 rolls around Roos will be off in the sunset.

  31. Nathan Jones is a culture setting footballer. On field and off. As is Jack Grimes. And then along comes Jack Viney, launched into the spotlight with 'bump-gate', and he couldn't be a better example of the new MFC. Dom Tyson also is a very impressive person, and don't forget JKH, first ever indigenous captain of a TAC team, and who draws huge praise from all who have coached and worked with him. Chris Dawes, Dan Cross. There's a current and future culture right there.

  32. Look, I don't doubt that what he did was poor form and deserved to be admonished. Conversely, you blokes who want to lay down and continue to accept the glaring disparities in judgement will only result in further farce by the MRP. Simply, this should be the push by not only MFC, but every club in the league.

  33. Good or bad, it doesn't matter, a coach publicly airing his grievences is a dumb move. It is exactly what Paul Roos wouldn't do. If you have an issue, speak to the players behind closed doors, and to the media you say "disappointing outcome, we need to work harder". You don't single our MFC players, when the rest of the Casey players are pretty damn average as well. Poor move that makes him sound like an idiot.

  35. I went to a family reunion on Sunday (dad's side of the family). there were 60 of us in total. There were a couple neutrals, 8 Melbourne supporters and 40-ish Richmond supporters...and it was gooood!

  36. Melbourne is one of the great 'silent supporter' clubs. Just watch them all come out of the woodwork as we improve. We get some flack for it, and probably rightly so, but there are generational MFC families who go quiet when we're not winning. As for building support, Jeremy Howe in form, Jacks Viney, Watts, Dom Tyson, and particularly JKH as his profile grows, will draw in a new generation.

  39. We are already in a dilemma on who to bring in next week (Mitchie, Kent, etc) so I suggest let us sitback and continue to watch Roos work his magic. What we really need [and something that all Demonlanders can have an influence on] is 15,000 new members, taking us to 50,000+ and making us one of the powerhouse Victorian Clubs!

  42. just having a look back thru this thread I reckon the Cats are showing signs of getting stale & tired, & look like they need some more younger blood brought up into the seniors. reckon they're starting to look more pedestrian. If I were Chipper, I'd not go to Catland. I'd look to the Suns or Hawks, if for success in the next 3 years.... otherwise stay a one-club player with us, & work to reach the top 6, this side of 2018.

  45. while Dawes did a silly thing done in the heat of the moment seconds after the ball left the players boot. The severity of the penalty (2 weeks) is rubbish. just the tribunal trying to get back at MFC for Jack Viney getting off and making them look like the bunch of dills that they are. I have great difficulty understand some of their charges, decisions and punishments look at murphy and other bumps/head high hits that have followed. These guys on the tribunal are lost at sea and dont know what to punish or not punish anymore.
