Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Don't want to get to far ahead here, but I think Cale maybe one of the bright spots in a farily bleak season. Considering his build, his courage cannot be questioned. Not only that but he has exceptional skills which is what we are missing at the moment. It's a pty that players like Sylvia (built like Tarzan...plays like Jane) can't take a leaf out of this young mans book.

cale morton is going to be great but there is no need to rush him...i think it would be great for him to have a week off after about round 4 or 5 to try to avoid injury because his body will be finding it very rough at the moment...

however, there were glimpses of brilliance today and there are tons of room for development in all aspects of his game...some people are already saying that ryce palmer should have gone around pick 3 but i think cale is going to be a ****star***** and ryce palmer will be good but not great

Morton has way more upside than Palmer, in terms of physical development to go with his sublime skills .

Palmer was always going to make an immediate impact due to having a more mature body. He looked fantastic yesterday, as did Kruezer.

i chuckled when that happened, unlucky to lose the free

do any stats freaks know if he still has our best disposal efficiency

It was 64% for Morton today; probably down on his previous outings, but hardly worth worrying about.

Morton has shown us a little bit more about his game each week. The more I see him, the more I think he could be the real deal in a few years time.

He will get plenty more chances to build on his nice start, and he could be the talking point of a dar season. I look forward to seeing how he goes, I will not get oo far ahead of myself as previous draft picks from years gone by (sylvia, CJ, brocky, petterd, dunn) have shown flashes, and the odd flat patch that can extend over a 10 game period.

Keep in mind Josh Hunt would have the biggest thighs in the AFL (Stuart Dew aside) and could move a house.

Also, I'd be interested to know what the stats people call an "effective" disposal cos a lot of the time they seem off the mark.

Whoever said Palmer would be good but not great needs to get a clue

Great game from Cale. He heard footsteps once, and I thought , but knew he'd made the mistake and was right back in there tackling and was rewarded the free. His kicking is fantastic. His first half was abit rusty skillswise, but he sure got a feel for it by the end. I think with more weight and experience, he will be a star for us. He doesnt seem to have that cockiness that Sylvia and Mclean have, he just sort of goes about his game trying to improve, sort of like Jones but obviously minus abit of aggression and intensity.

I actually hope he stays a midfielder and doesnt develop into a KPP. People will think me mad, but we will draft a big CHF eventually, and personally I think we could use a star midfielder as we havent had one in a long long time. Travis is the closest thing we've had in probably 20 years or so, with flashes from Woe and some grit from Viney etc. I want a midfielder with exquisite skills who wins games off his own boot, and Cale could be that player.

genuine excitement...

watching it yesterday, you had to remember this was his third game and that he has done his first preseason.

he plays with maturity beyond his years and still tends to want to do too much with it at times but hey, it is a learning curve and he is on one of the steepest...

a good kid!

A great prospect. Seems to always have time, and doesn't panic in tight situations ..... outstanding attributes for a kid on the big stage.

Loved his goal in the 3rd qtr, when he carried the ball about 30 mtrs and kicked truly from 45 mts out on an angle. That screamed to me class...something the majority of our players wouldn't be able to manage.

Morton will hopefully be a major highlight of a bleak year.

pretty sure he ran about 10metres and kicked it from 35m almost directly in front but ok.

I was in the standing room at that end. He wasnt directly in front and kicking for goals was difficult at that end. It was class.

The good news is that he is an outstanding athlete and a willing worker. Add to that the poise, vision and skills on both feet and you have a player. Will watch with interest as he progresses.

He's the best 18 year old at Melbourne I've seen since Gerard Healy.

I was thinking Lyon was good in first year in 1987. I remember Healy being class throughout his time at MFC but cant specifically remember his year 1. How do think they compare?

Not sure about that, i didnt see Gerard healy play, but he has some uncanny Likeness to Lyon, Built like him, similar height, has great skill for a big man, and is footy smart.

Exciting times.

Lyon in 87 was awesome for a kid. Physically more ready than Morton though.

Not old enough to remember Healy's 1st season but just to hear/read his name makes my blood boil.

Lyon and Schwartz were both exciting when they came onto the scene.

On Morton, I watched the tigers yesterday and his brother has filled out nicely, so I think Cale will too, and when he does, he has the potential to be very very good.

I too think I'd rather him play on the ball that CHF, I'd prefer he model himself on Chad Cornes or Goodes.

Garry Lyon commenced his career in 1986 and was quickly a revelation. I suppose that I have higher hopes for Morton. There's a touch of Robbie and Hird about young Cale. Please no knobbish posters now accusing me of undue pressure on the kid, or you will be dealt with severely :)

Healy started in 1979 and was a young star on the wing in his first year before playing predominantly forward over the next few. And if you never saw Healy play, it's silly to say "not sure about that". It's best to say nothing.

Perhaps he could be the next player to bring people through the gates on his own.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
