Where is Allen Jakovich?

He used to treat gun full backs with contempt. He embarrassed and kicked sand in the face of Danny Frawley and Mick Martyn. He had deep character flaws though. Burned a lot of bridges before he came to us. I recall reading he was sacked from a SANFL club for stealing money from other players wallets in the locker rooms amongst his many colourful adventures.

Used to place bets at TABs get the ticket printed just before the race , say he forgot his wallet then run out to the car listen to the race on the radio and if he won he would rush back in and if he lost he would drive off.

I was fortunate enough to say that I watched him play. For me he was the most talented person to pull on a pair of football boots for this club.

Saw him boot a bag at that mudhole called Moorabbin.

The saints supporters when quiet whenever the ball went near him.

He seemed to be like Ablett senior with just an awesome amount of freakish talent. Perhaps if he had been more disciplined he would be as great but I thank him for the thrills he gave us all.

Isn't he the fastest ever to reach 50 goals in a career, or something like that? Was it 9 games?

That's correct.  He also reached 100 goals in just 21 games, which equalled the record set by John Coleman.

What a player he was.  He could miss absolute sitters and then dob one from the boundary on his left.  He could have had so many more goals too if he kicked straighter.  Didn't he kick 4.11 in 1994 against the Hawks at Waverley?

As so many mentioned before, his commitment to training was awful.

I still remember Andy Lovell reciting a story once of how Jako would train for a bit, say he needed to head back inside to pee and then not return.  It happened quite regularly.

I do that at parties all the time.

Jako was one of the most talented psychopaths we ever dragged onto a football field.

There is a long list of radio rental players for us but he burnt brightest.Sheer talent, like a thick set Daicos.

I was at that game and we beat them easily in a surprise win. He upstaged Lockett and the Saints fans were shocked. He kicked 8.7 till 3/4 time and shut up shop for the rest of the day. Must have felt tired.

I get jealous hearing all these fantastic stories. I never watched him play but he just intrigues me. Probably on par or bit above in terms of talent with Garry Ablett Senior but just simply didn't have the dedication. If he had the heart of a Todd Viney would it be a scary thought what might have been??

Dazzle, I think Biffen probably summed it up best. He did burn brightest and, for mine, the one who was closest in terms of natural talent was Liam Jurrah

. Both flawed individuals but ,of course, you went to see them as they could be electric.

He was of course constantly compared to his brother (Glen Jakovich). They played on each other in a final. And he even gave his brother a kiss after kicking a goal on him during an MCG home and away match.

His approach to football could not have been any more different than that of his brother.

Come to think of it the MFC has had its fair share of colourful footballers over the years.

Well compared to recent years yes, be jealous. But he, like the team then was such a tease. Its hard to remember those " semi-golden" years without a sense of disappointment. I guess Im an old cynic now but I get no real joy out of Jakovich memories because we never quite got there.

Lol!

Deep dive.

Wells wanted to play finals. Melb couldn't offer that so he left. smug grub. For HIM it was the scum or North.

He gives back today to the club today but not when it really counts so much.

Back to the great  Jakovich please, if you don't mind.

The three most exciting players I've seen in the last 40 years apart from Flower who was just poetry in motion were Jakovic, Farmer and Schwarz.

Wells got a call from a club official to tell him he was a Carlton player. He knew nothing about the backroom dealings at all according to him. We sold him off for the transfer money as I remember it.

And on that note.....

It belies belief how anyone who bleeds the MFC could use Greg Wells as their username.

Simply goes against the grain.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
