POSTGAME: Rd 07 vs Richmond

A lot of complaining in the game day thread.

Come on people, times have been rough enough that letโ€™s not complain about 19 goal, 54 point victories.

And Tommy Sparrow. Always had it in him and to my mind the biggest beneficiary of the clean out.

imo XT didnโ€™t think he should be leading the group in and wanted to step behind Max. Max being Max kept him out the front. It was a good moment.

Ahhhh yes, that makes sense. Cheers.

Bailey Laurie 17 disposals from half forward - was clean, one grab, while others blazed away he stopped and assessed options. Once he got the ball a few times he really started to look assured. He did some good things in tight spaces. I really hope he gets a clean run at a few games and build some confidence. Seems to love the club and be really close to the players.

Yep was very good.. hang your heads in shame that CRUCIFIED him before halftime

No way. He braced for impact. Player didnโ€™t even hold his head. Everyone moved on. Nothing to see. Just media stirring up the bump !!!

At the start of this year, if you told me weโ€™d kick 100 points five times for the year, Iโ€™d have been like โ€˜you think we can manage that many?โ€™. Let alone 5 times in 7 weeks

ย

Bit of a shame that Trelly couldn't nail that last shot to make it an even ten goals. (Yeah, you bet I'm hard to please. ๐Ÿ˜)

4th on the ladder!

4TH!!!

YEAH THE MIGHTY DEES!!!

Blake Howes has become our most reliable defender. Never thought I'd see it happen. But there were go.

Kozzy clear top 5 player of the comp.

I thought Gawn's fightback was awesome. Very influential in the second half.

Sparrow was tremendous. Fritsch had a great second half too.

The only negatives were probably:

1) Langford was very quiet and so one sided. If he was playing for the Hawks, Mitchell would be drilling him on practicing his right foot.

2) Culley's knee injury obviously. Hopefully he's somehow escaped an ACL

3) Our lack of intensity in patches. Maybe it was the 5 day break, but we looked very flat to start the 3rd. For a second there I thought it was becoming the Essendon game again.

Tough on Jeffo and Laurie!

I would rate both 7 get ur head outa the clouds

Watching behind the goals it was interesting to see the influence Lever has. Directs everything, sets us up for the switch and coaches CJ and Taylor.

He is a critical player even if some of his 1-1 work is not great

Sign of a side that's improving we can play ordinary in patches and then put the foot down...Tigers had a crack but our class and system was too much for them in the end

Watching Kozzie highlights on the train.

Steven King acting like a crazy azz supporter after Koz took the screamer.

Friggin love the emotion.

The way he was straight away holding the back of his knee...

Yes - he really grew into the game and had a great second half: in particular, one where he shimmied his way out of a phone box and laced out a pass. That was his best game for the club - Kingy obviously instills confidence in those that need it, and thatโ€™s by giving them a good run of games, not dropping them every other week. Well done Bill!

@adonski 4/10 is fair. Jeffo goal in qtr 1 was a soft free. One good passage where he marked and goaled in 3rd qtr. Dropped 4/5 marks where he got his hands too. One tackle. Missed 3-4 tackles. No 2nd efforts still. Shot for goal in last qtr from 25metres out was horrible. Barely scored a point. Intensity at this level is not there. I want him to make it. We need marking forwards. He was a first round pick as part of Jackson trade. Have to say it. Looks like Sam Weideman mark 2.

Going down the race just before they got into the rooms, Taylor was turning around and Max kept moving him forward. What was going on there? Maybe he just thought he was going to wander off.

It looked like XT didn't want to be the big dog, and Max was pushing him to be the big dog. XT will one day lead the club so it was a great moment.

Happy for the lad that he's played 2 in a row and can now build on that without looking over his shoulder.

Poor Culley. I have seen enough that he can be a player. It just wonโ€™t be this year.

Big opportunity for Trent Rivers to get his body right and play some footyโ€ฆ

Speaking of which what his actual injury.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The winds finally returned to Casey Fields for the Demonsโ€™ third home game of the VFL season, and its impact was immediate. After two opening rounds played in uncharacteristically fine conditions, the Anzac Day clash brought back the familiar gusty conditions that have been a feature of the region at this time of the year.
Forced to kick into the breeze first, the slow-starting Demons faced a tricky opening against an enthusiastic young Tigers outfit. Casey responded by turning the contest into a scramble, pressuring Richmond into errors and missed targets. The tactic proved crucial, keeping the game tight for three and a half quarters before the Demons pulled away with the autumn wind at their backs.
