POSTGAME: Rd 07 vs Richmond

Although he did a few semi stupid things missing goals he should have snuffled (that handball he took of Mihocek then missed was trying to be a bit too Hollywood for the stage the game was at), I thought one thing that has really impressed me about Bailey Fritsch's game in the past few weeks has been his sublime passing inside 50.

Another shout out to Mihoceck as well for last night's game - thought he looked a class above the defenders he was playing on and put in a really solid game for us. Hope that continues, as my only knock is that I feel he's also gone missing a bit in some of our games. Could also be somewhat a case that having the extra talls down in our forward line is benefiting him.

It didn't look great initially, i haven't seen a super slow mo though.

It's the super slow mo that you need to watch out for. The MRO think that it's like a real time replay of the time the players have got to react to situations sometimes.

Viney will adjust to the new game plan once he returns

With the new rucking rules, the ball is away from the feet of the ruckman after the tapout. The ball is often out in play

So whichever mid wins the ball just dishes the ball off quickly to complete the clearance ... or breaks clear looking for a forward target

And Jack knows how to get the ball, that's his strength. He's also adept at the 35m - 40m low, fast drop punt and with 3 KPF's to kick to, it's then up to the forwards to present and play in front and/or get on the lead

Viney can also dish the ball off quickly by hand and will add much needed experience to our midfield group

I can see him excelling with the new game plan as we need more than just 1 or 2 in-and-under experienced extractors

Not sure how you expected him to miss. Set shot kicking is one of his strengths. I was almost a bit more surprised that he missed the last shot, but thought he played a pretty good game over all.

Was only half serious but I personally would have him a long way down the list of players to kick for my life.

What an example Kozzie's setting for Latrelle.
Would have spent the off season learning what it takes to get super fit.
And now Kozzies teaching him how to be a freakin' superstar.

It's a shame latrelle couldn't finish off with a goal to bookend kozzies mark.

Any news on Culley?

Not yet, but some media are saying how he came off in the 1st quarter with knee issues, docs checked it, sent him back out & then he's gone on to hurt it. Anyway hope for the best

I woke up at 5am worrying about Culley's knee.... Invested much? I'm a bit miffed that it is ANZAC Day and then there's a public holiday on Monday. It could be Tuesday before we get told anything.

Could be (or still could be) that the MCC write out a cheque to the home team depending on the size of the crowd. Gate receipts related

At the lower end of the scale a minimum of $100k for a 23k or less crowd was often mentioned (but that was years ago)

$1Million for 60k? ... again, we're going back a few years

@Dr. Gonzo might know a bit more about what the scale is/was

Footnote; So when faced with the prospect of a low drawing crowd at the MCG against GWS or suchlike, we've previously taken the NT money instead

I think it has to be 80k+ to pocket $1m. It's a sliding scale as you say but the higher the crowd the steeper the slide from memory, so 60k night net a club $500-600k but not 100% sure.

he is actively trying to avoid contact and actually hits moose more than the tigs fella

He doesn't even bump really does he? Just turns his body as the pack forms to try and lessen any collision, nothing to see here.

Not in Victoria 31?

No public holiday here on Monday

The downer about losing Culley is he’s got height and can take a mark, his size means he can readily split a pack, he’s also pretty neat by hand and foot. Not mention how hard he’s worked to get the opportunity. Fingers crossed it’s not an ACL.

He plays for Melbourne. Here’s a Lexus on Pitt street.

Caught the end of the steele interview on radio. Fair to say he sounds a bit happier playing under the freeness & freshness of King than serious Ross

Before the season both he and Gawn were our brownlow 'leaders' at 150-1!!

One of the more mispriced markets seen for sometime. They are both probably in the top dozen. Kozzie was always going to win 5 to 6 games off his own boot playing midfield and he's already done it twice at least. Also, I cant remember the last time he was tackled.

Huh, DH has the day off and we are definitely in Victoria. Interesting. I'm self-employed now so what is a day off?

Really impressed with Moose in his second game for us last night.

He will obviously face tougher ruck opponents but I thought his ability to work to the front of ruck contests and often use both hands for controlled taps to our mids on the run was terrific.

His strength looks to be his hands as well. Some of his handballs to the outside, finding players in space was awesome.

WTF is the media’s problem. They are trying it bagging our medicos again, drawing links between Culley, Petty and Petracca injuries and failings of our medicos. The club need to call this stuff out. You are questioning experts. No club doctor should be subject to such scrutiny.

To answer your question . . . there's relatively little money in it for the investment required. So “performers” are required to be outrageous in order to keep their jobs and the resultant eyes on screens. It’s why Cornes is everywhere and I watch only the game with the volume turned down.

Finally watched the game.

Tigers fans should feel aggrieved they got some shocking non-decisons but it would not have mattered we over ran them easily

Mihocek does lot of heavy work in the forward line that does not get noticed. If any backmen start to heavy our forwards he is on the spot giving them a push / look. He breaks up packs as well. And then manages to pick up a couple of goals most games. Just the guy we needed.

My memory is struggling…

Can someone please let me know what our 2026 record at the MCG is????

Five wins and zip losses.

I sense the sarcasm, but I like saying it as much as I'm betting you like hearing it.

It's a bit of an about face from where we have been at various times in the past 5-10 years. I recall there being periods where we had a great wining record just about everywhere else and were ordinary at the G.

The current trajectory we're on makes so much sense from so many angles that I probably dont need to point out (but I will):

  1. Our home deck and great for us to make it a fortress;

  2. Better for membership that we put on a great show and leave everyone going away with a great experience;

  3. Majority of our games are played there;

  4. Where so many big finals and our next premiership will be won!!

I get that and agree. Would be nice to see some more output from him on the scoreboard to help win games as well.

I thought last night, he was really on top of his game and looked like he was really firing in a way that he hasn't some weeks.

My comment wasn't so much of a knock on him. More of a desire to see all our players delivering on their full potential. I think guys like Mihocek has more gear to go to and could really make us a force. I know he's a bit of a freak, but just imagine if all our veterans delivered for us like Max and Steel every week (Lever has also been very good again this year).

Just saw the pickett incident.

Not even worth mentioning. Zero in it.

Pathetic that it was even brought up

What was the attendance for last night?

It seemed as if the whole purpose of the Anzac Eve clash at the MCG between the Demons and the Tigers was building toward that single, unforgettable moment when Kozzie Pickett soared above Campbell Gray and all but fittingly etched his name onto the face of the 2026 Frank ‘Checker’ Hughes Medal.
