Dora the Explorer?

This is comedy gold, Steele chooses Titanium.

Must have a young kid. Don't think he'll be getting a game anyway

So, this is actually going to happen! I thought it was an early April 1 joke.

But then, it is the AFL who don’t seem to think the game itself is enough and feel the need to follow Americans on just about everything.

Just one more thing to come into calculations when deciding to attend a game that may be of little interest.

Were the real fans asked about this?

About as sickening as the Druggies’ air raid siren

To me, this is akin to changing the club theme song. I could not be more disgusted that this is taking place.

My elderly parents have been attending home games together every other week for 50 years. The current gameday 'entertainment' is already too much for them. Shamefully, this gimmick will end a long-standing family tradition.

Noise after a Melbourne goal ? How about just the crowd cheering and no song.

The silence was more embarrassing than a collection of 80s/90s slop.

Although Daft Punk will be fun with Bayley if he can kick a few…

Can't we have goal novels instead? Kick a goal, read a page.

Actually we could all do with a bit of 'kick a goal, listen to 30 seconds of Orwell's The Lion and the Unicorn' as read by Ian Mckellan'.

Kick a goal from a snap shot, get Penfold from original Danger Mouse going 'ooh crumbs'.

Kick a goal, Kermit the Frog celebrates continuously until the restart.

I'd appreciate it if someone could post a list of the players' songs. Andy's opening post isn't working. I just get a bunch of numbers and it doesn't appear to be on the MFC website. Cheers

I know when I reflect on how to improve the match day experience the first thing I think of is more inane, loud and awful music to drown out the cheering. It’s such a wonderful way to engage with the fans who are desperate to be annoyed and distracted. More flashing lights, and more obnoxious sounds please!

Incidentally, hoping Xavier Lindsay can actually slot a few more this year.

For such a good field kick, he had a massive case of the yips last season 2 goals 6 behinds is beneath him, including a bunch or relative sodas that he should have gobbled up for breakfast.

Had they not been punted BP5 & Claz surely would've gone with We've Got To Get Out Of This Place by The Angels.

I'm not fussed about the concept of songs after each goal. I attend other games and most home teams have songs after each goal so I'm accustomed to it.

But geez, that's a BOG ordinary list of songs...

Why is this an American thing lol?

I call it 'woo woo culture'. Where absolutely anything, no matter how inane or just plain wrong, has to be followed by a crowd indicating their group membership by going woo woo.

Prominently American in English-speaking culture, but not uniquely American of course. You can see it in anything from Korean dating shows (I think she has nice hair... woo woooooo) to the Nuremberg Zeppelinfield.

Those who recall the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy might remember the alien planet where everyone had telepathy, but it got really awkward knowing everyone's thoughts so to mask them everyone began talking constantly about absolute drivel.

Yeah, this kind of [censored] is just that - a screen against sincerity.

I don't like the music after every goal but I am conscious I am not the target demo and a bit of a traditionalist.

Now that it's agreed at least to start the season I do accept what I will like less is not hearing enough of it.

Also some of the song choices are not exactly in the spirit of what I think it's trying to achieve. Max Gawn case in point.

Really dont like it... though Charlie's song has become a cultural event for the lions which is good.

Is Roo trying to make a political statement for the moment by choosing "Rock the Casbah" given its about the 1979 Iranian revolution and their bans. ?

edit: I want to hear Dora ring out around the G :) what a pump up track that will be....

I'm not a fan either, though to be honest I dislike the volume ads and songs are played at the G way, way more than songs after a goal. Does my head in.

The issue I have is not so much having songs after goals as I understand the logic of making the game a fun event for families, it's the rationale for the decision.

Typical AFL making a decision supposedly to benefit fans without, one bothering to actually consult fans, and two not even bothering to tell fans on what basis they have concluded fans want this.

I mean where's the evidence this will make for a better experience, let alone increase attendance.

The AFL have been gloating about tecord breaking attendances for years. And songs are not played after goals at most games. Hard then to argue something needs fixing.

And give me a break it's for the kids - I doubt many kids are singing along with bloody Country Roads at the GABBA.

It's all the crusty retirees and the mums and dads(who bybthe are the ones who buy the tickets to games for their kids)

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.
