Ha ha, it’s like casino’s now adding extra 0’s to roulette tales to extract more money out of gamblers. It’s all about squeezing in an extra round and getting more people to watch games they may normally not have watched hence more money for the AFL and broadcasters.

If they want to add a round I have a clue, pay attention!

Currently 24 rounds plus one equals 25! I know it is fairly advanced arithmetic for a four year old.

Note:- 24 rounds plus round zero is still 25 yes but the byes you may say. Then have a split round 1 it's not difficult.

What about the teams that have the "traditional opening match" now in the second week of the season.

Spare me!

Gotta give Carlton fans credit. They are at least smart enough to not celebrate that “win”, but cant say the same for Voss and the players. How could you double fist pump and give high fives like you have just won the Prelim after beating the second worst side in the comp on paper, and only “winning” because Lynch couldn't convert Richmond’s dominance. What a joke of a club..

We should pump this club in 2 weeks time and end this disgusting 3 match losing streak we have against them.

If we dominate and get the opportunities Richmond got, Mihochek, Fritsch, Pickett and even a Chandler should cash in handsomely.

Not to mention that they haven’t had a one goal second half since 1968! 🤣

The bombers need to be studied

How do you have a worst list year after year when finishing bottom for 2 decades?

Impressive

Didnt they win the flag that year?

Round 0 !

The stupidity of Round 0 is mind blowing. I cannot comprehend the motivation behind continuing this.

What does it add to the season?

Who benefits?

If it's the vibe, maybe next year we add Round 00! And the year after Round 000. It is so moronic it could only come from the AFL

People may tune into a NRL game and be converted

Nick Watson's make-up gives me the uncanny valley creeps.

Overall this game looks like it is being played on top of a wobbly table.

You hit that change of momentum like Wile E Coyote hitting an anvil!

well that went north quickly

7:7 from Hawthorn so it could have been a lot worse

Crikey, Essendon reads like horse form.

Has not saluted in 294 days, tested in this field.

Essendon are what a bottom-out rebuild looks like. Got plenty of good kids with potential, but you'd think they'll need a couple more years. And take Merrett out and ... ??

Fair dinkum we just must beat both Carlscum and EssUndone over the next few weeks regardless of what we do or don’t do in round 1.

Must win these or lose all credibility.

Essendon need Paul Roos for the rebuild.

That last play by the Hawks Weddle goal was brilliant

I know people don't like hawthorn here, but watching them thrash essendon on a Friday night is a good start to the weekend

Or ...

Prefer in something easier

Not here

No

Yawn this game style we are seeing now is starting to resemble basketball too much. The mid ground battles for yardage, a turnover or stoppage and ball up have all but disappeared, it’s just running the ball from end to end for shots at goal. Not particularly enjoying watching others play so it will be interesting to see us in action on Sunday.

I’ll probably come to my senses tomorrow but today I feel sorry for the Bombers. I remember that awful pang when it’s round 1 and you learn that the team is somehow even worse than last year and your season is already cooked.

They suck, a lot.

Never ever feel sorry for them. Do you think they felt sorry for us in our terrible years? Nope.

After they won the 2000 gf there supporters were insufferable thinking they'll win the next 3 flags.

Nothing has made me happier than seeing their demise & knowing there golden boy contributed to it

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.
