Take it and run. 7 & 8 (plus swapsies) for a 30 year old with his best years behind him and on $1.3 million which GC are prepared to pick up! They must be desperate, though equally, you see why they would do it. Marquee player, flag window, yadda yadda. None of the Vic clubs would even look at a deal like this for Trac, and surprise surprise, they didn't.

Pick 7 and 8 is a good return

I would have preferred Humphrey but looks like we won’t force that issue

6 first round picks in 3 years is a very solid base to work with. It’ll be tough going next year or 2 but we won’t be bottoming out when tassy joins the comp.

Very happy with 7 & 8 and look forward to seeing the final shuffling of the deck chairs. Ideally, I would've liked to have held onto 24 but I'll wait and see what the final outcome is prior to judgement. But as I said, very excited by this.

We should still be able to get two very good players at 7 & 8 if we hold those selections.

Exactly how I see it too. Very fair return for Petracca.

A shame about P24 but if we land a future 2nd or two to compensate then no dramas

7, 8, 28 a strong hand for this year

I mean if we can’t get a player what else can we do? Keep Trac who doesn’t want to be there and that energy is around the club again in 2026..

As much as I want us to be firm, apart of me knows it’ll be bad for us anyway with his attitude.

Really getting tired of clubs (Gold Coast, Hawthorn, St. Kilda, etc.) wooing a player, getting them to nominate, and then not being able to deliver a FAIR deal for both parties. We have stated we wanted a player... if you woo a player, be prepared to give something in return. Don't say "By the way, player X who wants to go home is off the table". It is bullsh*t!

Hoping for a late twist to this extremely long movie.

Agree, but the onus is on us here to reject it. Or to bend over and take it.

We have stated our "head turner" position, it's looking like the head turning is after we have bent over just to tell them lube isn't required, we like it dry and rough.

Yup, BH would have been nice but a good selection of picks is probably the safest way to build our next prem team.

Get the majority of our talent through the draft and then add the missing piece through trade like we did for our 21 flag.

Any chance that discussion of the Christian Petracca trade could be carried out on the Christian Petracca thread?

Perhaps just me.

What do you mean none of the other Vic clubs didn’t look at the deal?

Trac nominated GC. He wasn’t inviting offers from Vic clubs.

Hawthorn have been distracted by Merrett, and look what they’re offering for him.

This wasn’t an open market where we were going to get to pit rivals bids against themselves.

People who think 7 & 8 in this draft is a fair deal are kidding themselves...

They need to look at some of the vision of the kids available - underwhelming

Depending on how JT and the club view the talent available in the top 10-15, I wouldn't be surprised if we elect to only use one of these two picks this year and try and trade one on for more access to next years crop.

GC can't have everything they want. I want us to hold 24 (first pick of round 2) and give 28. If we end with 7 & 8 I hope we are looking to work our way up higher to get Robey. It would be the MFC approach to back ourselves in and throw an F1 in the mix.

Will wait until 7:30pm to see how this pans out. If this as floated eventuates then I will be furious. This trade period has been a lesson in mismanagement. The oldest club in the competition has been bullied by the youngest.

They clearly want Trac

Trac swap for Humphrey- no

What about Jake Rogers - no

7/8 - yeah but we want 24 to help with our academy picks. [censored] me, grow some. Here is a club that wants its cake to eat as well, not only that we might send them home with a bag of lollies.

Tim Lamb needs to stop rolling over and asking them to tickle his belly.

Don’t get me started on the future third for Clarry.

What happened to it must be a head turner and in the best interests of the Melbourne Football Club. I am absolutely all for balancing the list up with some outside speed, skill and X Factor. I am all aboard a cultural reset and a lift in standards because we have been complacent in that space.

But wow, we potentially have shot ourselves in the foot and been absolutely played this trade period. That will not sit well with me. I’d hoped this was a new Melbourne, time will tell and the clock ticks to 7:30pm.

GC are aware that we've been chasing Humphry since his draft year.

They know our advances are unlikely to stop, so, they're banking on us offering our first rounder and a future first rounder next year.

This nets them Petracca for picks in a perceived weaker draft, and the option to trade in a stronger draft market, with potentially more than just one suitor.

You don't think it's merely indicative of just how much we want Petracca and Oliver out of the club?

Probable interpretation of Tim Lamb waiting til 730pm...

Tracs best years may be behind him. But before his injury his form in 2024 was very very good. 2025 was a write off as he was returning from those injuries and coming from an extremely low fitness base. Even so he still ran 2nd in the B&F. I would be wary about writing him off too soon.

One way or another, today is hump day

Well then the club should hold Trac to his contract or push for humphrey

neither of which they seemed prepared to do

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
